Ausaf, a very timely post I must say and both of the comments are equally inspiring and realistic. IT is here to stay and so are the long hours and heavy rewards, you just have to keep on learning to stay on the niche of the market.

Yes its true that young professionals do not think about your short terms goals .. think about long term goals thats basically a part of strategic planning of yourself and that can only be done with the help of experienced person as in the case of all Pakistani young minds as we all know that there no so much guidance about the career counseling for us ... related to your part of reply my dear every field has its ups and downs and the young mind its basically the interest in that field which let them do it and its not the case that they opt for it for some other reason .... and my dear MBAs are not recognized out from PAKISTAN ? how come .. well i have done the MBA from Pakistani Universities and i know friends of mine who have done MBA with me and they got the JOB in really prestigious organizations abroad just on their true caliber and there knowledge ... so its not the matter of what u do its basically what you choose based upon your passion and how to fulfill your dreams ......... yes IT does help out the middle class families ... well with your point on that matter of that IT BRAIN can only be found in middle class and lower middle class thats not true my friend .. you have to broaden your vision related to it .. you can find genius in lower class as well in upper class so its upon ALMIGHTY ALLAH TO whom HE can gift that thing ... so i am not agree with you on that point .... well related to your point of Taxi stuff the same goes as well with the others as well besides upper class families children ....

@Aftab
Yes its true that i really enjoy that what i m doing .. and i have no regrets of choosing this field of IT instead i love being an IT professional and its really test my nerves sometime when some major problem comes up and how to handle that particular problem ... i do agree with you on this point that if you want to learn then you have to sacrifice a little but at times more then that and you'll definitely get the rewards in near time to come ............ If you have the passion for learning in any field you will definitely learn about it because it is the knowledge with no one can theft from you as you said "Knowledge is Power" and i am totally agree with you and i experienced about just recently .hehehe

I have been in the field of IT too for the last 10 years. My message to all the IT professionals is, do not think your short term goals. Think about long term goals and think big. IT is the only field in which any individual can get good certifications and go abroad and get good job which is not possible for other fields in Pakistan for certain reasons. Take example of two most popular fields 1- Medicine , a graduate after 7 years of education has to go through more exams to get credit in specialization. 2- MBAs are not recognized out of Pakistan and usually do MBA again when they move to the new country.
If you compare this with 7 years old IT professional, he usually earns around 30- 40 k per month. And no other field has given opportunities to get jobs outside pakistan than IT

there are certain reasons, it is easily affordable and middle class and lower class income groups can easily afford this. The most delicate program in IT is BRAIN which is only found in lower and middle class people.

I have personally seen children of upper upper class families from Pakistan driving Taxis out side pakistan but IT graduate always get job in no time.

Ausaf, my good man, I am sure you enjoy doing what you do, don't you? If you do then all that you have highlighted as 'issues' must be fun to deal with. In todays competitive world, if you want to succeed, you better be prepared to sacrifice a little, long hours and all are the norms these days (but then rewards are also, almost, outrageously high - OR?) in any job worth doing, I might add. Of course, one must be prepared to learn all the time, if one wishes to go places. Nothing can beat a well informed individual, remember an old adage, "Knowledge is power" - this hold today just as it did in our grandfathers' days.

I would think that the most important factor for anyone who is on the verge of choosing a vocation or profession must be to seriously explore his compatibility and suitability for her / his line of interest.

An square peg would always have problems with a round hole!
