Will Premier Show Integrity?

By Rohail Butt • Jan 7th, 2010 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 7 Comments

The biggest problem with the present regime in Pakistan is that it’s corrupt. Not a single person is out there who can claim that he or she is clean. The bunch of ministers and advisors who were selected by the President carry lots of corrupt baggage and now the Islamabad is buzzing with their fresh achievements.

While the government may have leaked its intentions of not defending the infamous National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), it clearly has no plans to abandon the NRO beneficiaries. There are many media reports emanating from the power corridors of Islamabad that a new law is being given final touches. This new law would protect the NRO beneficiaries even if Supreme Court gives verdict against NRO, which is highly likely.

This is where even Supreme Court cannot do anything. This is where the role of real opposition comes, but it seems that the PML-N’s leadership has it’s own vested interest. They are playing zombies on very important national issues and it seems that they will do so in the near future.

It reminds me that when the seventh assassination attempt on President De Gaulle’s life failed because the bullets yet again missed the target, the imperturbable general said dryly, “What inept marksmanship!”

Even the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is not safe from that. His brothers and son have been accused of occupying lands in the Multan region, his hometown and of various other things and then there were loan scandals. But the question is that now when in present circumstances, the premier has got so much power, will he act upon his responsibilities or will only play along the ball with the corrupt lot?

  1. Mushkil hai. Zardari will drown the ship instead of jumping out of it.

  2. Let the powers separate I say. Legislature, executive and judicial. No one intervene in any others powers. This is very important in my opinion. Stability is the major factor to fight the militancy in Pakistan. Will eventually decrease corruption and keep a auto check on all.

  3. Two factors that will never let Pakistan grow. It is militancy and corruption. Unless and until we all do not take a stand against these two factors I think it will almost be impossible to prosper.

  4. Corruption finds its roots in our culture and practices and we cannot downplay it! But as nation we are fond of make baseless allegations. The courts are empowered and the cases are pending so let the justice take it due course. Pakistan is fighting a war of survival which needs unity and we need to extend our support to the armed forces and the parliamentarians.

  5. @ Hira Mir , Militancy is not an issue attached with our roots , someone is fueling and hatching militancy here in Pakistan. While corruption is in our roots and blood. If we have some resturant or bookshop and its full of customers on cash counter while billing and my friend or relative came , selects the book and right came towards me , leaving that waiting persons. This is even corruption!

  6. someone is fueling ,hatching militancy?
they are not wearing Suleimani caps but all has been done done under ISI and CIA.
This is one of harsh truth that now we have to accept it all cost.
Army officers earned billion through this underground militancy which has now penetrated in our roots
Everything has been backfired in result of such militancy based on spiritual beliefs of illiterate locals and our all development done by taking loans has been eaten by such kind of dangerous master mindedness plans. All were made in our barricaded offices under supervision of literate people who had astigmatic political vision, has now become part of our life.
In Karachi in one night we destroyed our billion dollars money which we are yearning from houses of superpowers all the time.
Swat has been destroyed by the arms and ammunition which was purchased by discarding basic developments of locals but in war we spent billions in one month there.

In Peshawar all major business centers/industries have been shut down in last 5 years war on terror activities.the only business left there is supply to Nato forces which also some time shows horrible pictures when convoy is attacked by locals.

So all such examples proved that military state only come to wars for their solution as this is only option of their survival as leading point men of misguided nation.

  7. @news. I agree with you. Militancy has recently hatched in Pakistan and is alarming the killings that have occurred over the past few years. A phenomenon that was not surely in the blood of the peace loving people of Pakistan. However the military operations continue to strike these militants down and we must support them fully to make this operation successful.
