Will Long March Destabilize Democracy in Pakistan?
By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Feb 10th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 32 CommentsWhen Pakistan’s yet another dictator Pervez Musharraf executed his coup against the judiciary on Nov 3, 2007, vandalised the Constitution and conquered the courts once again, it was warned by the likes of Fazlur Rehman and some of the other status-quo mongers that in order to save the system, aggression over judiciary should be considered as fate accompli and protests must not be the way.
Now as the elected government which self-righteously considers itself the champion of democracy has refused to rollback the aggressions of Musharraf in their true spirit, it is being once again warned by the likes of Fazlur Rehman (who is once again in government as chairman Kashmir committee) that the long march of the lawyers will be a danger to the new democratic governemnt and would only give excuse to the dictators to come over and “save” Pakistan for their “aziz hum watno.”
What else could we expect from the so-called democratic government which has opened up its eyes under the aegis of an unconstitutional emergency, a PCO and an NRO. The truth is that we are still living under the same mindset ruling of dictator. Nothing has changed. Fight against the dictatorial regime goes on. This government is a failure through and through. It has failed to live up to the aspirations of the people and it has delivered nothing in terms of governance or relief. Lies, broken promises and eyewashes are what have been materialized from Islamabad.
Long March is not just for the restoration of one person Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary as the chief justice of Pakistan. It is to show the military and civilian dictators that there days are numbered and the nation is awake, cherishes and understands the democratic values and the essense of independence. The cherry-picking of judges by the PPP is one of the most shameful activity ever happened in the history of Pakistan.
Long March is the need of hour. It would herald the coming of true democracy in Pakistan and would help a great deal in shutting the door at the face of aspiring dictators and would put the fear of God in the heart of dictator who is sitting in Islamabad smiling from ear to ear while darkening his heart. Long March is the name of change. It’s the pursuit of desirable legal and political change in Pakistan. Pakistanis certainly deserve better than Asif Ali Zardari.

Lawyer’s movement is our hope for better Pakistan where rule of law can prevail for common citizens.Only fear in this long march is that its importance is only being felt by those groups who know the importance of justice in democrat system.Their number is low but determination is very strong and how they motivate our muddled nation is another step toward democratic system.60% population is illiterate, 20% educated class is either corrupt or behave like chicken,10% are govt servant so lets see how these 10% mark the history of this long march.
Nazia, a system is not ‘democrat’, it just is not right. Let me help you, a system is democratic or undemocratic. OK? By the way, which ‘madarsa’ and which ‘maulvi’ ‘taught’ you ‘inglazy’? By the way your hero the champion of justice speaks English just as well as you write! You are doing a good job! with this speed you and your hero can help this poor nation.
Aftab
if TPS has given you assignment of English instructor, then welcome to your job.its good activity for free people like you who are living under UK pension fund. Now I am humbly requesting you to keep your track in your side.Your taunting way is neither impressive nor practical. It only requires a minute to cross the limit of decency .You know it better than me
Nazia,
“60% population is illiterate, 20% educated class is either corrupt or behave like chicken,10% are govt servant so lets see how these 10% mark the history of this long march”
The 10% people whom you are talking about, they are actually infants sitting in the laps of their mothers drinking milk (You forgot to mention them).
Yes, there will be few hundrds people will gather around and each of them shall wanted to know how many people are being accumulated in that SO-CALLED LONG MARCH
Itney jootey maro chief ko aur uski party key logon ko sabhon ki shakal mazeed bigar jaey. F**B*** Pakistan ko barbad karney par tuley hoey hein. Iftikhar, kurd, aitazaz must be openly trialed in the murder of 42 innocent lives.
Had they postponed their visit to Karachi (keeping the nation’s and country’s interests in mind; their would not had any killing)
BEGHAIRAT AUR BESHARAM LOG!
What u are talking, what these mean/cunning iftikhar, aitazaz, nawaz sharif, zardari, qazi hussain, imran khan talking is f**** useless and irrevelemt.
Pakistan is in such a critcal juncture and these B****ds are fighting on petty issues. Believe me Pakistan is drowning, Pakistan is going to split, Pakistan is on the verge of collapse: this is bound to happen if these F*** B***s are not going to rectify them in the best interest of Pakistan.
There is an internatonal conspiracy against Pakistan, in Swat (which is just 100 miles away from Islamabad) 200 schools for girls are burnt down, whole of NWFP is under the grip of terrorists activities, there is a guerella war going on in Baluchistan and the two provinces politicians are involved in Poetry of amendments of constitution and restoration of judiciary and charter of democracy and fighting on who will rule Punjab etc. is continued by these KHABEES politicians.
Severe Loadshedding (because of non-pyment of funds to IPPs which Zardari/Gilani promised a month earlier) is prevailing in the country, un-employment is on the rise, industries are shutting down .
Look at the character of our politicians, the munafiq azam Qazi Hussain has boycotted Feb 08 elections but took part in bi- elections and now he is demanding for mid term poll.
You and people like u sitting in ur AC drawing rooms (by using generators) writing stupid things and poor Pakistani nation is looking in despair and remembering the golden days of Pervez Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz and repenting themselves and now looking forward to another Messiah in the form of a new CHIEF MARTIAL-LAW- ADMINISTATOR to let them get rid of these f*** politicians and take Pakistan out of this turmoil and chaos once again.
That’s why I always oppose these f**** polticians especially Nawaz and Zardari (Benazir) and said don’t let them come back to Pakistan. They are not sincere to Pakistan, they just want to come into power to rule the stupid nation once again. They will never going to solve the problems of common Pakistani. But alas! Everything is going tht same way which I always feared.
Still there is time, stop talking these useless things judiciary, constitution, democracy, charter of democracy etc etc. These things are of no use if there is no Pakistan.
I personally want (I am sure 90% of Pakistanis also) another Martial-law, a very strong one, it will put behind (all f*** politicians/iftikhar, aitazaz, kurd) bars and start everything from the beginning.
THE FIRST AND FOREMOSTTHING NOW IS TO:
SAVE PAKISTAN AND ONLY SAVE PAKISTAN
All your mentioned heroes are real HYPOCRITES and most selfish, self-centered people who have no loyalty to patriotism to the country.
Iftihkhar: He is the most ZAMEER FAROSH INSAN, WHO HAS TAKEN OATH UNDER THE PCO IN THE HANDS OF THE DICTATOR AND SUPPORTEDEVERY ACTION OF PERVEZ MUSHARRAF UNTIL 9 MARCH 2007 AND PROVIDEDLEGALITY TOHISRULEATTHE FIRST INSTANCE, where was his Qanoon ki Hukmrani, This BESHARAM AADMI ki wajah sey Pakistan ka satyanas ho chuka hey, aur pata nahin kitney log ab tak marey ja chukey hein.
When he was reinstated by Musharraf (pre 3rd Nov.), he declined to accept the freindship hand extended by Musharraf and instead he pursued more antagonistic approach against the president and due to MEANNESS OF HIS CHARACTER (KINA PARWAR INSAN), he started interferring in govt. affairs more STRONGLY. Could not he make better ralations with Musharraf JUST IN THE INTEREST OF PAKISTAN
KURD: How much he loves supremacy of law and supreme court, it is evident when he said I will put Supreme Court Building on fire if the decision of judicial council comes against iftikhar chaudhry
IMRAN: This man is also a completely characterless person, sometimes support Musharraf then turned against him. Nawaz Sharif ko pehley galian deta tha ab us sey dosti badha raha hey.
He named his party as TEHRIK-E-INSAF but when he was captain he has gone out of limit in his NA-INSAFIAN with so many cricketers (especially with the cricketers of Karachi), one can count how many crickters lost their future because of him.
NAWAZ SHARIF: This is the same besharam politician who has attacked SUPREME COURT and tried to oust Sajjad ali shah (But stupid Pakistanis have foprgotten everything because of their jahalat)
QAZI HUSSAIN: Is key barey mo kuch kehtey howey mujhe bhi sharam aati hey pata nahin marney key bad is ka kia anjam honey wala hey
PERVEZ MUSHARRAF is a REAL HERO not only of mine but millions of millions of Pakistanis (the proof is his supporting parties got the maximum no. of votes in 2008 elections : if there was American system in Pakistan I mean one person/one vote then PMLQ would be ruling the country but PEOPLE LIKE U WOULD NEVER ACCEPT THIS)
Look at his greatness, he never speaks ill against his enemies (Zardari/Sharif) and still speaks for the betterrment of the country (look at his recent lectures in USA ), Don’t forget BB when she asked West stop aiding Pakistan and also said if my friend (rajiv gandhi) was alive I must request him to attack Pakistan.
Aur this gadha Nawaz Sharif and his finance minister Ishaq Dar the first thing this B*** talked ill about the economic policies (in front of foreign investors) of previous govt. and at once all foreign investment stopped, stock exchange crashed and Pakistan economic downfall started from the same day.
Musharraf was bad (may be ) but they are the worst
Pakistan mein Aaj ka Kutta aur Billi bhi jantey hein key Musharraf ka waqt ab sey bahut behter tha. load shedding hoti thi par itni nahi, mahengai thi par itni nahi etc etc
Magar tum log yeh kahan sumjo gey SUMUM BUKMUM LOG
You guys will see there will be another Martial-Law in the same month of March and all the looters and plunderes of national ex-chequrs will be in jail and their properties worth billions of dollars overseas and in Pakistan will be consfiscated
And this time we will have even a better person than Pervez Musharraf and Ayub Khan, INSHA-ALLAH
No, Nazia, TPS has not given me any job at all and teaching English or any language or for that matter anything to people like, you know who, is impossible. You can’t teach ‘old dogs new tricks’ - can you? As afr as decency is concerned, what could be more decent than living ‘under the noses of three generals’ and using ‘Military Police and Rangers’ to fix a majority party of a specific ethinic people? Education is not limited to one’s ability to write her name only, it is much more than just hatred, guess what it is, let me help you, education teaches you a sense of respect for other people. Wait. Lets stop here. You won’t understand it, too difficult and by the way I did live in England for a while and that does not qualify me for pension. It is reserved for financially or mentally destitute and handicapped people like politicians of PML-N.
So aftab now u have changed your transform and camouflage as AOM get up.Its time to rest as an english instructor and lets play the character of mush lover.Keep loving your tin god but it is not acceptable to pragmatic people who know the power of democracy to accept the crimes of a dictator .
No, Nazia I am not AOM (but why are you so jealous of him? I am just , kind of, curious!). This Musharraf really has creeped into your system, hasn’t he? Another General! They don’t let you leave your place from “under their noses” - do they?
Yes you are are right as our sind governor had already qualified for this fund that you have mentioned specially for mentally destitute and handicapped people.thanks to bbc report and your information both are strongly interlinked with each other.Your feminine style is very interesting ,repeated mocking, provoking attitude on useless issues, stoking behavior all are signs of quarrelsome woman roaming alone on streets.
If his abusive language impresses you and and you think one can develop any kind of jealousy form his low rated words then lot of sympathies for your mental level. Now I understand why UK fund is compulsory for mentally destitute and handicapped people.
There you go again! I remember you referring to ‘potency’ related issues all the time, after all “living under the noses of three generals must have taught you a thing or two about ‘that’ ‘potency’ and so on so forth. And who would know better than you about - “…quarrelsome woman roaming alone on streets.” ?
How you wish that they recognized all these deficiencies in you as well and had you qualified for whatever it is you are missing. Let me recommend something of value. Why don’t you request the Governor of Sindh (the word here is Sindh and not sind!) to grant some such help to you on humanitarian grounds.
Lawyers Movement is like “Last Man Standing” in Pakistan. Dr. Isfahani, kudos up to you.
I’m surprised to see people supporting Musharraf and ridiculing the present setup. Why do people conveniently forget the fact that their supposed hero is the father of NRO and the present setup. Had he not given NRO nobody would have even dared to come back to Pakistan. It was Musharraf who used to say BB and NS have no future in Pakistan’s politics. But he forgot his own bootlickers.
I personally believe Pakistan cannot be internally strong unless and until people dont start getting justice. Anybody can be picked up without any proof and disappear. Inflation in Pakistan is also due to hoarding. Who will punish these criminals? Why is it so that only the powerful ones get away with all their crimes? The poor rot in jails because they cant influence anybody’s election. We have to change this. We have to punish all criminals who hold public offices and hold them accountable for their crimes.
@ Aftab S. Alam
if you are in UK then why are you concerned with Pakistan?
i mean if your were an indian you had a reason to be concerned, but you are not.
all you do is speak against pakistan, WHY ARE YOU BOTHERED?
GO WORSHIP YOUR ADOPTED COUNTRY, YOUR QUEEN , AND FEEL PROUD
Dear nazia
please ignore this Aftab S. Alam , all he can do speak against pakistan, if he were really concerned he would have been in pakistan , and tried to make a difference.
but no ! he took the easy way out and went to UK , and now all he does is speak rubbish, maybe he wants us to follow him and abandon Pakistan…..maybe if we follow him he would feel that he had done the right thing (by going to UK)
no matter what he says ……..he has nothing to be proud of ……..except the achivements of his adopted country
please have pity on him
and dont bother to respond to his good for nothing taunts
Best Regads
Look who is calling Pakistan what………
Aftab S. Alam feeling proud of his (muu bola) country england……everyone knows what a puddle tony blair was to USA………following his every order……….if he thinks that only a dictator can make decisions against his country then someone please wake him up ……….its not a secret how blindly tony followed the bush and how the common people in britan opposed the so called war on terror ………soneone should ask him what exactly is he proud of ??????…….
he(Aftab S. Alam ) is not contributing to strenghten pakistan………england progressed and developed before his parents were married……. all he has doneis to moved to UK and burdened their system………a free loader
someone shuld tell him, that person is, what he stands for,……. or for what is…….not for where he lives…not for who he looks up to give him shelter…………..
dhoobi ka kuta na ghar ka na ghaat ka…..
like its said above …………please have pity on him
Dr. Hassan Isfahani—Good Article sir.
“.60% population is illiterate, 20% educated class is either corrupt or behave like chicken,10% are govt servant so lets see how these 10% mark the history of this long march.”—-Absolutely agree Nazia.
While going through the coments of Mr.Aftab Alam, a very recent movie title comes to mind “Curious Case of —-Aftab Alam”———Some people have this penchant for being different—behave different, dress different, talk different, well the best way to deal with them is just ignore them.
nazia
let me correct: ASA from USA and not living on UK Pension, but you are correct he is free.
What i feel is that our X CJ should stop this childish stubbornness and if he is really loyal to his country then he should do something for general public, and helping general public could be done in other ways as well, there is no need of that CJ chair for this purpose.
One thing more when he was CJ, was there a peace and law every where? So what would he do now if he didn’t do anything when he was in charge?
MAS,Arias, kashif,
thanks for your support as it makes a clear differnce who is roaming in the streets alon.
Aftab
I am proud Pakistani who still stand on my soil with all hardship.Allah has not given me anykind of deficiencis and complexes that reflects in your words. With His blessing my place in my country is among highest tax payer community. Our tax eater sind governor has no match with people like me, he is eating our share or share of common man as once he did the same in UK while he was in exile.Avoid kangroo jumping during discussions as at this age it will create problem for you.
Nazia, go back and read my comment @ #2
Does it need any further explanation? I mean, what is wrong in giving you a useful tip? It will only make better sense of all this gobbledygook that you waste your readers time on. As far as the support of all your friends is concerned, well I am not surprised, I honestly did not expect anything better than this. A person is known by the company she keeps! By the way, can you calculate:
0+0+0 = you guessed it! (so better be careful when select and appreciate such quality supporters)
Do you know what seems common among all your these ‘valuable’ supporters ?
You guessed again! They all have IQ level of a demented slug!!!
Calm down children enjoy your sights and scenes.
Carry on your assignments dear.
Do sit at your places of desire.
Spray your thoughts but please do not sprinkle it over each other.
Have your say with courtesy and love and don’t be irrational.
Please ensure decency and do not let me count your attitude in misbehaving.
Mind you all are sons and daughter to this nation.
