Why dont we go to poll our vote?

General Elections in Pakistan are likely to be held on 18th February, which is Monday next week, and it will be a national holiday, and that is what many of Pakistanis are happy about. They are asking each other as whether it will be a holiday on 19th or not.
Over the years, voters turn-out is rapidly decreasing in Pakistan both at the national and provincial level. Especially the youth of Pakistan is not really interested in politics. Neither they want to vote nor they participate in any form of political activities let alone to stand in the elections.
The lack of interest on the part of people to vote is one reason why we don’t have a lasting and mature democratic society in our country even after the sixty years of our independence. Political depression among the young and old voters runs deep and voting apathy is on a rapid rise.
There is no charm in the politics for the young and educated people, as politics in Pakistan means hard cash, biradari system, gunda-gardi, lota-geeri, and other nefarious acts. You would be a rare animal, if you get elected without resorting to negative measures during your campaign and elections, and that is why young people refrain from elections and voting as nasty, expensive and useless.
These 2008 February Elections in Pakistan are perhaps the most tasteless elections in years, and it is felt by all that the voter turnout would be all time low. Pakistani people are not only apathetic towards voting but they are also very much frustrated. People are also of the view that either they could search flour, sugar, gas, power, drinking water, or they could go poll their vote.

We need to realize that lots hinge on these elections for us, and we need to wakeup otherwise things are very bad, from where I am looking.
Yes, we need to wake up…….. You know what they say about politics “if you don’t get it, it will get you”
Elections are tasteless but they are very critical.
The problem is that we dont have education is the country and until and unless we dont make our voters educated, there is no way true democracy could come in this country of biradari system.
I have asked some people, on voting day actually, why they were sitting there and not going out to vote. Most of them, without regard to their socio-economic station, were of the view that their vote means n-o-t-h-i-n-g. That, as usual, there will be a lot of rigging and fraud perpetrated by the Govt and their vote will not make a difference.
Secondly, that who should they vote for ?, Sabhi chore haiN.
That’s a pretty convincing argument to sit at home and allow the robber barons to continue to loot and plunder the resources of this country, unabated, unaccounted and with relative ease.
