Who says we are selfish?
By Mian Usman • Jan 4th, 2010 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 36 CommentsWe are a nation who loves to sacrifice for others, a daughter marries an unknown man for the sake of parents decisions, a boy marries his cousin cause they cant marry out side the family, a mother bears up with a husband who does not love him for the sake of kids, one earning hand feeds the whole family at the cost of own social life, dreams and ambitions, a brother remains un married to see all his sisters get married but when his turn comes he is too old to marry, father put every thing at steak to get better education for his kids education, a mother works 14 hours a day to be a partner with her husband to raise the kids, grand parents do not stop working even after their retirement to earn and be a helping hand to their family to survive difficult economic conditions, a sister does a job to provide a better education to younger brothers and sisters as her parents cant afford to do it on their own, a friend helps his friend in difficult times ignoring own needs, a friend helps finding his jobless friend a decent job, friends silently helping friends who are ill and cant do any work, we dot send our elderly parents and other relatives to old homes, we love to serve them in their old age for the sake of getting prayers from them. We are the proud people of Pakistan and its already too late but I guess we are never too late for taking a good step forward which is to high light the good attributes of our Nation in our print and electronic media.
Media focuses on corruption so much that the efforts of so many good people around us are ignored and not high lighted even. We are generating hopelessness in our Nation at a time when positive attitude and constructive behavior is the hour of the need. We are willing and ready to work for the betterment of our country, Pakistan is not a reflection of handful of corrupt political leaders and their allies but its a country of millions of hard working people who earn their living through hard work and not via mean and unlawful short cuts. We are a Nation who despite the terrorist activities around us, still find a way to laugh, to help each other, to find for justice, to be honest to our country, to be ready offer our sweat and blood for our mother land, our intentions are always positive and those intentions are reflected in the way we have made progress in all the fields. We agree that the situation should have been much better as far as our economic and social development is concerned, but the progress is there, the hope is there. We live amongst the people Like Abdul Sattar Edhi and Ansar Barni, who have worked through out their life for a better living of a common man. We have our heroes from the past and from the present; we have our role models too.
I fail to understand that all we see, read and hear is a mere hue and cry on the bad aspects, we need to focus on positive people around us to distribute and ray of hope for our Nation.
We are still a better society than most of the societies of the world where moral and ethical values fail to exist, where women are treated badly and are sex symbol, where divorce is a every day affair, where people cheat with each other all the time, where corruption rules but its not high lighted so that world might not notice. We come to conclusions with out objective evidences, we try to interpret an opinion poll in our favor by using selfish politicians, civil servants, leaders, religious activist etc so that we can keep our government, position, job and false egos intact.
We are the best nation in the world, the evil is always less in number but over powers the good cause its high lighted so much. I would strongly disagree and urge the people who are writers, poets, journalists, TV anchors, influential politicians, religious leaders and teachers at all levels to project the good deeds of us as a Nation. Its time for a change and a change starts from one individual and it soon captures every ones attention if there is a will to do good. By showing corruption scandals all the times we are changing focus of hard working people from doing their job honestly to start finding short cuts to get success and wealth in life. I met a man in mid Seventies heading a textile who started off his business with a paid up capital of Rs.25,000/- and now after thirty seven years he is running his textile group with annual sales turn over of US$50 Million per annum. He told me he earned respect and saw growth in the industry cause he always believed in hard work and never went for any short cuts. People like him despite all resistance kept their head down and worked hard to contribute to the prosperity of Pakistan, why cant we start focusing on the people who made the difference through their hard work and consistent honesty, why do we focus on the corruption only, Am sure we would be able to find more good people than a few dirty people in our ranks who work for their own and their Foreign Lord’s vested interests.
W should spread the word of peace and a promise of hard work from us all as a Nation no matter what happens around us, we will wipe out the wrong people in our ranks and face the current scenario with courage and determination and would always be positive in our approach to re-build Pakistan. The solution of our problems lies with us not the foreign aid and especially not with the self centered ruling elite class. Its our Pakistan and it will be our effort to get it out of troubled waters.
Pakistan is represented by its hard working farmers, craftsmen, educationists, social workers, students, youth, working women, devoted industrialists, enthusiastic sports men and women and people who spread the actual spirit of Islam as a religion and way of life and not by bunch of low lives of call them Political and religious leaders and use religion and people trust to gain benefits. We do not want such hypocrites in our Beloved Country.

Writing poetry and articles is one my favorite passtimes. I write truth openly in a straight forward manner and dont believe in an indirect hinting towards the truth. Am an ordinary man with an extra ordinary wish to see peace, harmony, justice and equality for common man before I die. For that I have decided to write my inner thoughts on the day to day sufferings around us. Silence can not solve any problem it rather increases it. My struggle will end with me. Am grateful TPS to provide me an opportunity to join a group of very talented writers from whome am learning a lot. Am not a man of letters so you would find my expression not as good as my seasoned and experienced partners who regularly write, my focus is primarily on the message in my articles and TPS is helping me to convey it to a lot of people.

Our bitter surrounding conditions are tending us toward more selfish attitude then before.
-We are now less hospitable and cordial towards guests and poor due to extreme rise in food prices.
-We are more untrustworthy on strangers in trouble as insecurity is mounting high and high in our nearby.
-We have become more prone towards truthfulness and righteous due to weak and corrupt leadership who all time come on media and speak blunt lies on real situation.
-Long duration gas and load shedding is testing our patience level up to its lower limit as it is now part of our life with no solution of improvement.
See the long queues on CNG pumps, cheap sugar and flour shops. govt building like nadra, bill handling and you would hardly see any body is giving them any excuse of mistake .
So state mismanagement always contributes in creating people temperament.
Whole world had seen riots of Karachi but our own machinery actually acted after 24 hrs to control law and order solution so what kind of human values you can except in our culture relative to serious disturbance created by state authority and so called taliban group in our side.
Mohtram Mian Usman Sahib: In my own personal capacity I just stress on One Point as nobody is saying that. Why don’t you get it yet, Corrupt Zardari, an Accidental President, will fall, there is no doubt about it, Read his History moreover the history of The Roman Empire Fell, because of arrogance, ego, all the things that bring down any even corporation, greed & the need to dominate even Bill Gates is experiencing that.
Therefore just because of his smart-alecky’ This country has Intentionally pitted us against each other, as a distraction. AZ & Co. is too arrogant they need to change their & our respective ways.
I’m just reminding to all of Pakistanis where we are headed, If this current Government does not change its Foreign Policies which is started & end on Just One Single Burning Issue i.e. our Unnecessary Role as a Front Line State in War Against Terror under dictated terms of Red White & Blue Countries.

Its about Pakistan & preserving it & reminding all of us the power we have to take back Pakistan & regroup start over, repent & ask No forgiveness but in some cases which are not fallen in the category of Traitor-ship/Unconstitutional Small Size Crimes or not against the sprit of Islam those are pardonable & have a brand new start before it collapses under its own power.

I love this post. Good job. This does describe truly the kind of people we are as a nation. GREAT!!
@ nazia. Irrespective of the all the inflation and other criterias the only hope that I am left is when these people when up and we as one united raise our voice against, poverty, extremism and militancy with corruption.
@2
I am trying to avoid your oollol jallol comments for many days but really where you have learn such unique skills that is still unabsorbed,nonacademic, unfocused and out of range of given topic.
By the way from which language institute you develop such skills that is nothing more than cocktail of your random thoughts .
@3
Educated class has become lot of aware due to efforts of media but harassment like situation has been created by hidden hands in our system for last 6 to 7 years.
It looks that you are not dealing with the masses in daily level in our system that is why thinking unrealistically like that.
Ground reality is far better than your imagination.
I blame all to the top bureaucracy and military establishment which have destroyed our real working culture.
People of our society have been split around personal desires and goals and that is why distance is being created in all classes of society instead of developing harmony among communities..
Lets hope for the best as soon as media take the grip on revealing real characters of people working on top seat along with accountability process now starting from our courts.change would appear in our system.
Nazia….you remind me of famous saying “Pot calling the kettle black”
FYI, there is no such word “lot of ware”, it’s “lot more aware”…..now please don’t pick on me.
@6
what is problem in TPS.
Throw stones somewhere else and neigh hears straight from the horse’s mouth , some other place.
@Nazia
Hey, did you got up on the wrong side of the bed or I stepped on your tail ?
Listen, I don’t intend to start a war with you, just want you to respect other people’s views.
@ 4 — First of all I did not directly address to you why did you get annoyed. This is so simple don’ t grant any importance to my comments or — Is there any Hakeem told you to read my comments as if mine comments are utmost required for your eyes to keep them cool, mind it at this same forum some people appreciated also.

Oh sorry you got hurt from bottom of your heart on my some inquisitive remarks.
People become very short tempered after creating versatility in their unapproachable styles.
You are angry for nothing,So I can request you
Hold on to your anger as resentment and hurt would onlygive you tense muscles, a headache and a sore jaw from clenching your teeth.
Forgiveness to illiterate, ignorant and idiot like me, gives you back the laughter and the lightness in your life.
Really I didn’t mean to hurt a linguistic scholar who was deeply involved in his creative skills while sitting his cave of vain fancies.
so carry on your linguistic experiments best wishes from me
There is nothing wrong with me.I am enjoying the supportive behaviors of other commentators for each other.Really you all are, all for one and one for all.
By the way where I showed disrespectful attitude for others.
if I couldnt understand terms due to mental weakness then what is wrong in asking of all.
should it placed equivalent to have war on it?
so sad on this aggressive attitude.
@5. Change can only be bought through the ballot. Judicial is neutral and free and elections are held below their supervision. But I think more blame goes to us the people who remain silent whatsoever. We do not raise our voice and remain oppressed. Its like the nation has forgotten the power of unity and has become use to the continuous oppression.
@7&8. Why the hell are guys fighting?? We talk about unity and look at you both all getting emotional. This is the problem in our society today. When not even two of you can agree how do u expect the nation to agree on one thing?? You guys need to cool down
@12
read carefully I am neither fighting here nor raising the temperature of discussion.
We are not here to please each other,impress other or for undue praises and this is not like Yes sir domain.
People should carefully observe poor level of non absorptivity in their fluctuating moods.
Once in this TPS few people had filled remarks with hard line abuses and all enjoyed it.
Now they cant tolerate a simple innocent taunt and place them in the category of sarcasm.
There is no problem in our society.Problem lies in the temperament of people who cant get rid of their bullying and brutal attitude in front of all time rivals.
Resistance, pointing flaws,providing little challenges, backfires,minor teases through friendly fires no doubt give bitterness in one’s taste but bitterness always takes you near to maturity and immunity.
That is why mature people always prefer to take bitterest wine in their tough times as acridity fascinates them to tend toward more difficult challenges of the world as compare to sweetly and cordial setup.
I think pakistani are generally very cautious with strangers, and it is very hard to be close friends even I intend to be open minded , i am dating one man and it is hard to gain his trust. they just do not trust anyone, we are of different religion too.
Nazia, your post was an eye opener for me , an insight of the nation. thank you.
Dear leeann
“i am dating one man and it is hard to gain his trust. they just do not trust anyone”
Actually south asian men prefer stability in marriage/love life.
And western societies have a “bad” reputation about divorces and promiscuity in south asia……hence the lack of trust.
But everything can be overcome with love…….i know sevaral desi men/western women couples……
Take care
Nazia, pick up your green passport and make your way through full body searches into the nearest western country. These electricity and gas shortages won’t go away as population is growing and there is just no money to support so many people.
@17
dont worry about me.
I have many times discarded this west migration
I know very well how to accommodate it in worst living conditions.
I take preventive measures stepwise after seeing contingency is coming ahead
Facilities are not problem but loosing sense of security is now our serious problem.
We are taking cautionary measures to avoid it as much as possible but risk of death like torn pieces is still overcoming the residences of Pakistan.
Dear Nazia
Comment 18 shows why i like nazia…..an awesome girl.
Fearless and intelligent……..
Human resource migration to the west is a big problem too.
@14
There is no need to get the love of Asian man as they are very emotional,tricky and immature through out their active lives.
More the time pass,more you would find instability in their temperament.
The ratio of survival of marriages with other western culture in our ssytem is very low unless a man is grown up in very civilized set up.There are many factors of this but major is weak personalities of a man.Who when get the girl of his desire, cant manage her in his conservative and possessive Asian set up.
We people who even look you polish is still bound to very orthodox values based on our , caste, land ,money and personal ego like that.Here parents and relatives interfere in married lives of couples, when the bitterness of normal married lives strike them, it can make them to think of taking wrong decision of such unmatched marriages.
After getting western lady they look impress by all their Asian styles which first looked them backward and unpractical.
So its good for you to fix to people of your culture and religion for making your future life without any bad adventure.
