Who Impeaches?

By Farid Masood • Aug 18th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No Responses

Time has become crucial for General (Retd) Pervaiz Musharraf and off course for coalition government as well. Nation has impeached the presidential policies through electoral and demanded the elected leaders to do it constitutionally. After delay of almost five months coalition collected required courage to perform at nation’s will and to make this decision public. Sure, they must have done their homework because there is no option for a rebound, and if it does then it could be more unpleasant above estimation.

US Administration backs any puppet until it is able to survive in its local environment, then the next one is accommodated to fulfill the tasks assigned, the investment in so-called war on terror cannot be left and must be returned to the investor in any shape, and if Musharraf goes in result of impeachment there should be another who will be that one Zardari, Nawaz Sharif or who else?

Army is not interfering in this pre-impeachment motion time, USA, Japan and some other countries are of the opinion that impeachment is internal matter of Pakistan (not in the list where they interfere). But for sure army and USA is not letting the Musharraf to face trial after impeachment. They shall sure speak for the safe exit or may provide hidden support. On the other hand general public and Lal Majid, Wana, Waziristan, FATA, Balouchistan operations affected ones are not in the favor of safe exit. There is also an approach that, during last 60 years army had many adventures with-in Pakistan, to overthrew elected governments, based on many assumption. This is the chance to fix a stopper in that loop-hole forever and this is the golden chance to make this event an example.

USA is not going to back out completely on “Impeachment Issue” they are waiting for the right time to speak. If ouster of Musharraf is done by impeachment before US Elections it’s a real set back for their international policies. So the statement of US consulate in Pakistan is a weak argument that USA wants relationship with Pakistani nation not with a single person, practice is evident against Pakistani Nation.

The status of PML(N) has become more crucial as they were asking Mr Zardari to impeach president. Mr Zardari is backed by NRO and if he is in trouble in coming days he may opt for a compromising behavior which is deadly for PML(N) stance and this shall surely create troubles for them.

The charges against President may be as follow:

a) Judiciary Issue

b) Breaking of Constitution

c) Extra Judicial Killings in Lal Masjid, Wana, Fata, Waziristan & Balouchistan.

d) Any international issue linked to Pakistan should be done with support of Nation’s confidence, what motives were their that Nation was not taken into confidence.

e) Lying with the nation on many issues e.g Judges issue, Post 9/11 War on Terror issue etc

f) Handing over of innocent citizens to USA.

g) Treason Charges

h) Other legal charges like taking vote of confidence from rubber stamp assembly, Presidential voting under supervision of intelligence agencies & CCTV cameras etc.

Other parties like JUI(F) and NWFP’s ruling party are with the coalition, but there are some black sheep (proved notorious role in recent past) in them also who may shatter the impeachment motion by changing affiliation. So major parties of coalition must see this issue also. Some members of Q-league are in favor of impeachment; MQM (which is the basic supporter of President) has put aside itself from this move. Al-Qaeda’s statements in relation to President, if support Musharraf will sure states that it’s a paper organization.

There shall be some small rebounds from President house to defend, but in any case he has to face the joint session of upper and lower house. If he survive the impeachment move successfully lets see what the future holds for us, another PCO, another exiles, further destruction of government’s structures, another Q-league government or will start to prosper after 61 years of independence.

Impeachment move sure to cost billion of rupees to Pakistani nation (which is already suffering from price hike, induced inflation, power shortage, human rights violation etc) in shape of legal expenses and in shape of horse-trading from both ends. I pray that this process is completed soon what ever the result will be and not lingered on like Judges issue or like constitutional package.

I pray for peace & solidarity for the country and its citizen. And an important thing is that PPP might not use Beynazir card for a long, it must come towards extending services to the nation, which is the basic mandate of every party.
