Who are the Suicide Bombers?

By Guest Blogger • Apr 9th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 37 Comments

95% of all suicide bombers are known to be young boys aged between 10 to 18 years. Why are the  terrorists using teenagers to commit such horrendous crimes? The reason is that it is relatively easy to brainwash teenagers, owing to their immature state of mind.

History shows that the use of children to commit terrorism and atrocities is not a new phenomenon. Child soldiers have been and still are being used by warring parties, in civil wars  in Africa. As truly depicted in the movie ‘Blood Diamonds’, which I’m sure many of us have watched, in African conflicts, children are often taken away from their parents, indoctrinated and armed by warlords, and made to commit atrocities against civilians. Similarly during the brutal Khymer Rogue regime in Cambodia, a large number of child soldiers were indoctrinated to commit genocide. Of recently, terrorists in Swat have used children to torture and behead their captive police and paramilitary personnel.

Most of the suicide bombers are thought to have been students at extremist madressas(seminaries). In fact the word ‘Taliban’ itself means students, particularly ‘Madressa Students’. The harsh environment of such Madressas allows its pupils, limited exposure to the outside world. Instead of allowing the pupils to form their own unbiased opinions of the outside world, extremist Mullahs tend to brainwash them to follow their own rigid sectarian ideology of intolerance.

Instead of teaching them to use logic and reason, the Mullahs cultivate a hatred in their immature minds, for everything they deem  conflicting to their own narrow-minded sectarian and extremist ideology. It is despicable that  extremist Mullahs present nationals heroes like Quaid-e-Azam M. A. Jinnah, and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as villians to these pupils, and notorious terrorists like Mullah Omar, Riaz Basra, Baitullah Mehsud etc are portrayed as heroes. Democracy is denounced as an ‘evil’ and ‘un-Islamic’ form of government and instead these innocent children are taught that a state ruled by Mullahs is the true Islamic form of governance. The universal Islamic values of non-violence, tolerance and peaceful co-existance are totally ignored. This instilled attitude of misanthropy and intolerance prevents most of such Madressa graduates to integrate in the society.  They feel alienated from the mainstream of the society, develop a hatred for the prevalent social structure, and ultimately find solace in joining some sectarian terrorist organization.

Once this happens, the metamorphosis from an extremist to a terrorist becomes a really simple matter. Events such as the Lal Masjid incident are testament to the fact that religious extremists are capable of wreaking havoc, once they gain access to guns. In the earlier stages of that crisis, the baton wielding madressa graduates first started terrorizing residents of adjoining residential areas, and once that they smuggled in weapons, they declared an all out war against the Pakistani state. All the terrorists who had occupied Lal Masjid, and held hostage innocent children as human shields, were in fact Madressa graduates.

Although majority of the Madressas are institutions of learning, that also provide food and shelter to children of poor parents, and are doing a good service to the nation, there are still many extremist run seminaries that are operating as factories that produce suicide bombers. The government must ensure that such madressas be shut down, so that incidents like the Lal Masjid can be prevented in the future.

  1. There seems no sign of optimistic scenario to expect action against the corrupt elements in the state administration where scandals and scams are surfacing frequently. No pragmatic steps are prevalent to free our state from knave persons except enactment of laws and legislation and setting of organization to combat and curb the corrupt practices in the government machinery which failed to cut the ice and to get rid of malicious malaise of corruption which made the standing laws against corruption a laughing stock.

  2. Mr. Sajjad:
The point is that who empowered the Lal Masjid clerics to take law into their own hand? Even if there was immoral activity going on there, it was not the job to clerics to raid those place.

Secondly, you’re forgetting the chaos that these extremist Mullahs created at that time. The extremist clerics got the neighbouring Children’s Library occupied through their burqa clad and stick wielding female madressa pupils. What law empowered them to do so?

Then, if you can recall, these extremists set up their post on the road adjoining the Lal Masjid, and on numerous occasions threatened to throw acid on female drivers, who drove through that route.

All these mindless actions were unlawful and intolerable!

These terrorists kept the entire city perturbed for months . As a last resort, the state had to act with force, which is what any state in the world should have done!

And lastly don’t you remeber those images depicting that bloody Terrorist Mullah escaping in a woman’s burqa? IT IS A SHAME! This Mullah first arranged for his own children to escape that compound, and then himself tried to escape in a burqa, whereas, his terrorist associates were keeping nearly 100 children hostage inside the Madressah and were using them as human shields!

And look how all this chaos adversely affected our country’s image in the world.

Let Show the Courage to Denounce These Evil Elements.

  3. Dear Hassan
please refer to point number 1 in comment number 1

    1) its not the acess to guns or bombs that make these “talibs” dangerous, its the weak institutions of our country which allow them to to become powerfull…………….

there are two sides of a picture …….i would suggest first look at the both sides and then form an opinion

look at one side and find solution to it BUT what about the other side?

    the weakness of our institutions?

no one is prasing the the lal masjid clerics but only trying to tell that
“Cure the Disease, Not the Symptoms”

but if you are deprived of your right or you are to get something done from government office where the govenment clerk asks you for a bribe and despite protesting peacefully through proper channels no-one listens to you ……………

    what would you do ?

    wait forever?

    or

you would bribe the govenmrnt official, who would solve your issue within minutes if not days………….

if you chose “wait forever” people would call you a fool
if you chose “bribe the official” then people would call you corrupt person……..

    Hassan Amin make your pick!

would it be justifies to call youi a fool or would it be justifies to corrupt person with out a moral sense who is such a coward who after little or no protest bribes the clerk and looks for the easy way out

i think you get the point.

like i said always consider both the sides………you never know there might be some we might not be able to see

    Best Regards

    PS.

dont say that you will go to courts or etc sab jaga rishwat chalti, hai buss rate ka farak ho ta hai.
just like in the movie “Khosla Ka Ghosla” evryone wanted to help Anupam Kheer, but not without his/her share
you would know this if you had to deal with government offices in pakistan

  4. a few typing mistakes in comment number 4

    the second least para reads

“would it be justifies to call youi a fool or would it be justifies to corrupt person with out a moral sense who is such a coward who after little or no protest bribes the clerk and looks for the easy way out”

    it should be

would it be justified to call you a fool or would it be justified to call you a corrupt person with out a moral sense who is such a coward who after little or no protest, bribes the clerk and looks for the easy way out ?

  6. Arias
    Love it
    lol

  7. Think -

If Pakistan knows the evil that is Taliban, then why does Pakistan meekly surrneder Swat to Taliban?

A forlorn hope? Wistfulness ? Will’O the wisp named Peace?

    Think.

  8. Dear KB

They are still thinking in terms of “STRATEGIC ASSET”.

They STILL CONSIDER TALIBAN as “strategic asset”.

In KARGIL WAR , India used its air force extensively.

Curiously NO AIR POWER is used by Pakistan in Swat………guess why??

By the way, SWAT is very close to Kashmir.

  9. Dear Inc. Indian

    >>>>>>>>>>>By the way, SWAT is very close to Kashmir

i guess pak is about to share some “STRATEGIC ASSETs”. with kashmir and india

this transfer is from west to east

from afganistan to pakistan and to further east to india

take care of the “STRATEGIC ASSET”s

    enjoy!

and helicopters were used in Swat during the operation…..

    regards

  10. Arias
Indians are totally unaware of real ground realities of swat even karachi people who never visited this paradise cant judge the real situation. You see all start reacting after seeing an ordinary video come out on media for gaining some specific goals of international politics. I think that you people never see a video film of kurd girl who was seeing stoning done by his cousins and tribe men for having friendship with Iraqi boy.In this movie she was stoned to death clearly seen and her deadbody was left on street. This video was run on aljeezra channel year ago and very shocked to see that no international human organization at this time projected it like that.Still no culprit was caught in this regards and all are silence as US is supporting the iraqi govt.

  11. Dear Nazia,

    like the indians say

“Tum kero to chamatkar, hum kerain to balatkar !”

having said that i am not trying to justify the abuse of the women’s rights

just highlighting your point that…..it happen everywhere

just depends how the media potrays the incident

    B. Regards

  12. Dear Arias and Nazia,

“”"”"and helicopters were used in Swat during the operation…..”"”"”

    What happened to your F-16s???JK-thunders????

Look, Pakistan is asking the Americans to give them DRONES so that Pakistan can take out the taliban………..right???

My question is What is the NEED OF DRONES????

You have your F-16s…..which are FAR SUPERIOR than drones…….why not use them???

    >>Pakistan is NOT USING its full air power to take out the taliban………guess why??

    Regards.

  13. The idea is to GET THE DRONE TECH……….in order to use it against india later.

  14. Indian
dont worry your air chief is more authoritative than our present group who will not save our border until any body from govt will tell him.So if we will use drone against India you will take no time to destroy it so it is usually used in friendly areas.Once upon a time our air force had fired Indian drone as it is past now so no need to happy and joy but really we people are very disturbed on this present situation.

  15. Arias,

Man, you are truly a bollywood movie fan. Can you sing some more songs? I am tired of reading and listening the same repetative comments in this blog. There’s only accusation but no solution.

    Please do me a favour.

  16. Dear Premji

    i am flattered ……………..lol
    :)
well i usaually dont go for the local bollywood or lollywood, only hollywood………unless someone recommends the movie to me

while watching khosla ka ghosla i could not help getting the feeling that the same way “common man” is victimized here in pakistan…..but unfortunately the real common man in india or pakistan dont have a way to teach the opressor a dose of his own medicine

    Peace for all

    B. Regards

  17. Dear Incredible Indian

    >>>>The idea is to GET THE DRONE TECH……….in order to use it against india later.
