Where is Promised Change?
By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Apr 8th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 9 CommentsFrom the onset, the amalgamation of Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz has been watched with greatest apprehension and suspicion. Their marriage was done in the face of a singular enemy. This bond is breakable due to one of the two reasons. Either Pervez Musharraf quits the oligarchy or PPP starts overtly supporting the retired commando.
After the general elections of 18th February there was music in the air, a music which was heralding a sweet change in which justice and democracy will prevail without a shred of tyranny. The success of democratic forces in the elections was termed as Soft Revolution. It was termed as the success of the nation, in which the media would be free and the judiciary would be free and there would be no dictation from anywhere and everything will be solved politically.
But as usual the cold city of Islamabad is oozing some very alarming news. The news of the town is that there are very firm and clear connections between the President House and the Zardari House. President has ensured Mr. Zardari that PPP would complete it’s term with or without PML-N in the center, Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP and there would be no cases against any of the leader of PPP. Mr. Zardari has also assured Mr. President that there would be no impeachment for him and PPP would play it’s part to neutralize the judges through an upcoming constitutional package.
Where Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar has termed Musharraf as a sellable commodity and a national asset (which he denies now), Shah Mehmood Qureshi who is going to China with Musharraf has said that he sees no qualms in carrying on many of the foreign policies of the previous regime including the policies about war on terror.
The head honcho Asif Ali Zardari has also now spoken publicly against the deposed judges and has said that those judges never helped him when he was in the jail and Zardari has used very strict language against the deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary. Zardari should thank his lucky stars for the position he finds himself in right now. He was not a clean man and he knows that. Otherwise he would have said No to the NRO and prove his innocence in the court. But he was as guilty as hell, and Musharraf has given him respite just to elasticize his illegal rule. Pakistanis are hapless enough to ignore NRO but they won’t allow the hijacking of their mandate and they want their judiciary back and Musharraf out.
The way all the cases of Asif Ali Zardari have been withdrawn and the way his close aids like Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar and Shah Mehmood Qureshi are speaking in the favor of the Musharraf and the policies of the previous regime is extremely disturbing for the people who rallied behind the democratic forces. They are asking in frenzy and utter confusion from each other as where in the hell then that promised change is?

In politics you have political alliances and coalitions - but idea of a marriage between two parties. It is interesting expression but I wonder what should it mean. Political cooperations are dictated by prevailing political realty and last as long as circumstances demand whereas a marriage is a matter of heart and sould and expected to last as long as life would let. Do you think it is alright to compare apples with oranges?
I am frustrated, yeah right.
As I said earlier in some comment, that change will not come until Musharraf is there at the top. And he is seeing something which we are not.
You are spot on Isfahani, very empathetic piece.
Remember, it’s the same old deal which you called as “Dheel” in one of your articles on the old site of TPS when Benazir was alive and kicking.
Actually Zardari knows that this is the last time he has got Bhutto vote and whatever he does he will never get this golden chance. He has already got the looted money and now he just wants to savour the rule for a while before escaping to Surrey Palace.
Super Site this TPS has become, MashAllah.
No backing out on Judges issue: Zardari
Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari on Monday disclosed that despite conspiracies being hatched we are fix to our stance on Restoration of Deposed Judges.
Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari expressed these views while talking to a delegation here on Monday.
He said that PPP attaches top priority to the service of people and does not believe in political vendetta.
He said that we are united in our stance, however some people are trying to create differences in Judges issue.
He reaffirmed his commitment to reinstate the deposed Judges of the country including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Undoubtedly PPP will complete the unfinished mission of Benazir Bhutto and Zulfiqhar Ali Bhutto, he pointed.
People used to call Zardari Mr.Tenpercent and the cases initiated against him were during the regime of Nawaz only. Is Nawaz a saint? How could his entire clan live in Saudi arabia in exile? Now how could Sheikh rashid is living in Spain? How is Bilawal is studying? who is paying for it?
You are again falling in to the trap OF CORRUPTION SET UP BY THE USA THINKTANKS and ARMY WITH SHINING BRASS LOOKS THE MOST UNCORRUPTED.
As we were not signing the 123 agreement, the american inspired media in India is talking about CORRUPTION OF ELECTED INDIANS. Again the BRASS OF SHINING indian ARMY LOOKS CLEAN.
You Pakistanies must not look at corruption as a sin. What about presidnet Bush and Abramoff, clinton and white water,Tanaka of japan,King bernadett of belgium,Berloccuni of Italian mafia, the list is endless. What about saudi princes and BA deal? malaysian deal and mahathir.
POLITICS IS CORRUPTION WITHOUT LOOKING CORRUPT
Democracy is different ball game and requires patience. what made PPP and PML(N) to sup together? It is Democracy man . understand this. You cannot have good governance in one month after 8 years of dictatroship with still him holding some power. He is just waiting to pounce when the politicians slip. You ordinary people of Pakistan SHOW PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE.
