Where are They?
By Maria Sultan • Nov 26th, 2009 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesIn morning, as the next day starts, the people of Pakistan morbidly wait for any news of suicide attack in any part of the country. The people of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore feel it more gravely. But the people of Peshawar take it for granted that they could be the next target.
It is said that the fleeing terrorists from the South Waziristan area have dispersed throughout the tribal belt and they are trying to establish new sanctuaries in the Orakzai, Mohmand, Khyber and other agencies. All these agencies border with the Peshawar city. In order to make their way and place and to prove their mettle and put fear in the local thugs, the fleeing terroirsts of Mehsud tribe and the foreign terrorists are not only carrying out terrorist activities in these agencies but also in the Peshawar city which is the soft target for them.
This is not to say that the Pakistani security forces are not serious or thorough in their fight against terror during Operation Rah-e-Nijat. They are fighting to the hilt with full might within limited resources in a very tough terrain under harsh weather. They are sacrificing with their blood and sweat. They have weakened the Taliban tactically and have captured their strongholds and the safe heavens. There is no place like South Waziristan in the world to foment the terrorism and now that has been cleared off the terrorists.
But the terrorists must be eliminated from the other tribal agencies. Pakistan should also do a swift, well planned and coherent operation in all the agencies simultaenously and strategically.
