What Sheikh Rashid’s Defeat Means?

By Ali Yar Khan • Feb 24th, 2010 • Category: Politics • 3 Comments

It means a lot for the future of politics and electioneering in the Pakistan. The winning election of Malik Shakeel Awan of PML-N by an overwhelming majority will not only strengthen the opposition in Pakistan, but its effects will be very far reaching and tangible.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed is not just a candidate. He is the name of lotacracy, deception and turn-coat politics in Pakistan. He is an embodiment of cajol and lies. His humiliating defeat in his own home constituency means that now the people of Pakistan have reiterated their loath and hatred against the dictatorship and towards those politicians who support these dictators.

Now in the future, a politician would think hundred times before changing loyalities. Now in the future, a politician would hesitate a lot before supporting a dictator. Now in the future, nobody is going to insult the mandate of the people.

And that is what the revenge of democracy is.
