What MQM Wants

Death toll in the Karachi city has reached up to 95 and it’s still continues.
As expected ganging up of Land Mafias and religious extremists under the umbrella of ethnic political party ANP (comprised by Pashtoon warriors) has gripped the financial hub of Pakistan. Now the situation is terribly devastating to such an extent that no law and enforcement agency could dare raiding mountains and outskirts of Karachi to apprehend armed Awami National Party’s militants providing shelters to Taleban militants on ‘ethnic brotherhood basis” who hailed from federally administered tribal areas as a result of Pakistan Army’s military operation.
These days Karachi is known as Taleban’s “virtual hub” from where their parallel economy runs. Kidnapping for ransoms, extortion money, and land mafia and drug trade are the ways being used to acquire capital for remittance purpose. As soon the military operation in tribal areas of Pakistan initiated its impact in terms of increased influx of Taleban as well as crimes geared up in Karachi city since Taleban have no other ways to fund and shelter their cause except using Karachi due to its multiethnic nature not to mention that Karachi hosts the largest Pashtoon population in the world, far outnumbering the number of Pashtoons in Peshawar, Quetta, Kandahar, or Kabul.
However the question remains, what MQM wants?
Muttahida Qaumi Movement or MQM is the major stakeholder in Karachi , the only liberal political party of Pakistan and the flagbearer for the rights of the Urdu Speaking community. MQM since its formation has established political dominance in Karachi and overshadowed all religious and political parties from Karachi.
However in an extremely anti-American political atmosphere MQM continued to actively carry on the Anti Taleban agenda and helped law and enforcement agencies track down the militants.
MQM’s demands of immediate operation against religious extremist elements of the city (who with the help of their likes (ANP) conquering the city to escalate pro Taleban agenda) have brought all Islamic militant organizations and the Pashtoons in one camp. They are all now ganged up against MQM causing maximum damage in terms of prominent leaders’ assassinations, financial losses and ethnic cleansing of Urdu Speaking from Pashtoon dominated areas of Karachi.
ANP and Taleban nexus in Karachi is win-win situation for both the groups, the formers will financially strengthen themselves and latter will gain land-control with the help of militant Taleban that will ultimately help Taleban to carry out smooth operations in FATA.
In Karachi Taleban aim to choke NATO’s supplies to Afghanistan, of which more than 60% of supplies including fuel used by NATO forces in Afghanistan pass through this city. Such objectives could only be attained only if the Taleban acquire political support in Karachi, and here exactly ANP (who during 2008 polls acquired 2 seats in Karachi) is playing the pivotal role of providing “virtual base” for Taleban militants.
ANP’s little but significant political support to Taleban makes Pashtoon militants easy to carry on their agenda of destruction as they take shelter in ANP dominated areas of Karachi which are comprised by Pashtoons.
MQM on other hand carry an entirely different agenda than ANP, they are known as symbol of unity and religious harmony among different religious groups including Shias and have voters of all religious sects. This is the reason why ANP and other pro Taleban organizations don’t want MQM to prosper. Assassination of MQM’s shia MPA is also linked with Fazl Mehsud group, who would be hard-line Sunni and ethnically Pashtoon.
Killings of religious minorities in Karachi are the part of Taleban strategy to jack up tension in the city and to gain more forceful control over city’s lands.
Situation is highly volcanic in Karachi, the politically dominating MQM vs Militant Religious Club (including Taleban with the political support of ANP).
Although MQM is left with very few options because whenever they talk about operation against militants, the ANP stands to safeguard Pashtoon interests, as according to them the operation would carry out against Pashtoons in the name of Taleban, this situation makes thing more complicated for law and enforcement agencies as despite knowing the terrorists they can’t even legally initiate a drive against them because of the fear of ethnic clashes.
The ruling Pakistan People’s party is trying to reduce tensions between MQM and ANP through dialogue but this time I am sure it won’t work until concrete steps to eradicate religious militancy are taken.
I believe in any case PPP should go with what MQM demands in Karachi i.e cracking down against ANP’s Land/ Drug Mafia gangs. If PPP doesn’t do so and yet again opt for wait and see policy Karachi would witness worst kind of terrorism in long term that will ultimately paralyze country’s economy.
Last but not least MQM is always in the position to make or break Government; If they quit from Sindh, it will be difficult for PPP to run Government as the Economic engine is very much driven by MQM.
However the second option for MQM could be fatal for PPP, which is MQM’s resignation from Federal Government. If MQM opts for second option which is likely to happen in case of PPP’s absence of political will to root out ANP backed Taleban mafias in Karachi, the current regime will topple as other opposition parties and nation at large has already fed up and ready to support anyone who stands against current regime.

I hate MQM!!!!********MQM-Altaf can not justify the killing of common Pushtoon in Karachi by saying that Land Mafia,Drug dealer and Talibanisation is on rise in Karachi. we r religious people and love our culture……I really find it disturbing that Not even Media is condemning MQM-Altaf for this Act of Altaf the Bloody/coward revenge.
An Odd Question - Naturally MQM wants without any interference in their Authority very specifically at Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah & Mirpurkhas without any single Interference likewise all other Foolish Politicians of Pakistan who have forgotten the Quranic & Sunnah Teachings or even their Master Country i.e. Made in USA established Saying: “A stupid Wisher of Absolute POWER/AUTHORITY May Become Easily Absolute Corrupt within NO Time Period.”

Karachi is the heart of Pakistan and if its peace is disrupted by some militants pursuing their own agendas then it should accordingly be dealt with by the government.

An ethno nationalist mohajer giving excuses for MQM’s terrorism.MQM’s terrorism has its won history and has been around since its inception.But Talibans are there to blaim.

I think you are referring to MQM international Secretariat expenses which are met through monthly % from pay/ donation from MQM Parliamentarians, workers and sympathizers.
