We Won’t Be Happy on Eid, If We Were a Nation

By Ghazala Khan • Oct 1st, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 10 Comments

More than 40 suicide attacks have already happened in Pakistan alone this year in which hundreds of people have died and thousands have got injured, affecting hundred of thousands of people all around the country for ever. For these families, life will never be the same. The remains of suicide attacks and bomb blasts are scattered from Karachi to Wah Cantt, and from Quetta to Kohat and from Swat to Angoradda.

A mass exodus is underway from the FATA area and people are leaving the area in hordes on foot as there is no traffic allowed outside the area and while that happens, militants are also trying to flee the area by mingling in the immigrants. The number of internally displaced people (IDP) rising, as the operation goes in Bajaur Agency, Darra area, Swat, Mohmand Agency and in other areas.

Economy is melting down and social disarray is all too visible in every sphere of life. Inflation and price hike is all time high, and shortage of power, gas, water and food is still there forcing people to commit suicide and sell their children. Apathy and oblivion of the rulers and so called leaders only adding to the misery and despair. How could people get solace, when their children sleep hungry and without any hope of health care and education, while the children of rulers study in Dubai and London and their wives are treated for flu in New York, and when leaders don’t get tired of performing “Nufli Umrahs?”

But then these leaders represent us, the people of this country. We are running amok in all directions in our frenzy to satiate our never ending greed. We are ready to butcher our neighbour and kins to get hold of money, property and anything. We don’t take notice when suicide attacks and bomb blasts and missile attacks happen in FATA and Swat, and we get disappointed when fewer than dozen people die in suicide attacks in other cities. We relish and enjoy to pass on funny messages and emails about terrorists and suiciders to each other, and we don’t mind passing on the latest thrilling rumor to our family and friends.

How could possible we buy new clothes, shoes, bangles, jewelery, cosmetics this Eid? I mean are our hearts have turned that much steely to enjoy Eid, when all around us the war is going on and people are bent on killing themselves to make their point, and millions of people have been directly affected? All these dances, music and fun programs at the channels make me sick at heart. All these celebrations and festivities mean nothing, when the survival of country is at stake, and when we are at the mercy of others, and when our leaders are begging for alms from the whole world.

But then we are not a nation, but an astray crowd, who would be wiped out if a genuine leader doesn’t emerge real soon.

  1. Ghazala we are at the verge of turmoil.

    We have lost every thing.

In fact we are more than, a dead.

Though still striving to fade and vain the after effects of our own creativity but, what has confronted with the soul can only end up with dire consequences.

Wait for few more breath before depart of norm and culture, as now, only miracle can hold the fort of self infliction.

There is no doubt that we are at this moment tracking the ground as fail nation.

We have failed the subject of every concept of essentiality, ethics, notion as basic necessity, and moral values.

Few more steps ahead would classify the slogan of religious bearing as well as final dreadful loss.

  2. Dear Ghazala,

Eid Mubarak to you and your family!

Please stop this doom and gloom thinking. Have hope that God will do what is best for Pakistanis and the country, insha’Allah. We must all strive to do the best we can. Leave the rest to God for He indeed loves us all. When hardships come upon us, look upon them as blessings.

Now please smile and enjoy the beautiful day of Eid.

    Eid Mubarak to all Muslims!

    Kindest regards

  3. Dear Ghazala,

Wish you, TPS team and all readers— a very Happy Eid Mubarak.

Beside such a nice and though provoking post, I am still positive about our future on the basis of following good news in last couple of weeks.

—Civilians and FATA people are standing shoulder to shoulder with PAKISTAN ARMY/AirForce/Navy against Terrorists ( all kind of terrorists…internal and external forces)

    — Our economy is elast effected by recent turmoil in USA and Europe.

    — Oil prices are felling fown due to Economic crisis in USA and Europe.

    — Wheat price is International market has gone down and even less that Pakistan government set price of 950/40kg.

    — Vegetable oil prices are felling down with rapid pace because Fossil oil prices are coming down so there is no demand od substitute like bio fuel/ethanol etc.

    — FATA people have realised the truth and they are equally supporting first time Army to crush the culprits.

    — Our Nation after a long time is celebrating EID and RAMADAN all to gether unanimously. It will surely decrease provincial differences.

    — Our young generation is thinking ahead like other nations India and China. Most of my friends have first time started serious discussions about Pakistan and I welcome such thoughts.

Just pray, Allah is with us and I always says…Pakistan is not came into being to get vanish one day. It was miracle that Pakistan came on world map and InshAllah it will remain always.

Be Happy and throw worries. Keep trying your level best to add your value to in the growth of country. MashAllah we all are adding value at least by writing, reading and commenting on TPS. We are like a drop of water but this drop of water is becoming stream now and as it will become a river… We will achieve our targets.

Have a wonderful day and believe in Allah. No doubt we have to do lot but be positive because this positive attitude always helps to reach the finish line.

Again, Happy Eid and Allah Bless you and TPS.

  4. I tell you…there are very few nations who owns their countries at the time of problem and need. We are one of them. We always fights and argues in good days but when ever we see that our enemy is trying to shake us…we gets united.

It is really Allah’s blessing. Allah-o-Akbar.

    Pakistan Zindabaad, Paindabaad.

  5. Dear Ghazala,

    Eid e Saeed Mubarak bad!

This nation certainly needs a visionary; a charismatic leader to lead us through the turmoil and the prevalent state of our self inflicted pains. One who can teach us how to take pride in being True Pakistani and excel other in this competitive world.

Our pains are enormous; but against all the odds; let us celebrate this Eid day and try to be happy; probably this is the only day in our lives that we smile.

Wish you all a very happy, happy Eid and please keep smiling.

    With Best of regards

  6. Tehrik-i-Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud has died after a protracted illness, unconfirmed reports say.

DawnNews said on early Wednesday morning that the militant commander died of renal failure. CNN has verified the claim.
Our reporter Ismail Khan, said that although official sources - including a political agent and a security official - were claiming that the militant was dead, there was not yet independent confirmation of his death.
Meanwhile, the Tehrik-i-Taliban has denied that their leader is dead, DawnNews reported.
Baitullah Mehsud was known to be suffering from diabetes and hypertension.
Mehsud has been blamed for much of the violence in the North West Frontier Province. He was also blamed for the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

  7. As long as jungle law prevails in our country, our future is very bleak.

You wish for a genuine leader, work towards restoration of true judiciary.
A system where there is accountability and not ‘NRO’S’ ,will produce the leaders the country needs.

So readers and bloggers , spread the word…we want a safe and prosperous country for ourselves and our future generations; and the only way to achieve this is by having ‘Rule of Law’.

So, first order of business…reinstate CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry and his colleagues who are still standing with him.

  8. eid mubarak.
See positives in your nation ghazala. Once your Army does its job of controlling the misguided youth of your nation due to external influence from USA and Saudi arabia, you will raise.
Read Quaid -e-azam’s speach after independence and you will see where you have gone wrong.India also could have had a constitution just like yours with hinduism as base and you will see the troubles cropping up.We are better because of our first visionary PM who drafted a secular constitution. We have problems but nothing is irsurmountable. If you like democracy follow us.
If you like China, then let your dictatrship follow the chinese model.Again you will get progress faster.
It is upto your nation to decide. You are blaming Zardari, nawaz for all the ills of nation while it is your dictators who ruled who should be held accountable.
Get out of control of USA and Saudies and you will be OK.

  9. Well written Ghazala,

    We follow West in everything.
i.e.: Fashion, Games, Politics, Movies, Music, Dance etc
But we do not adopt good things from the west.
Every year at the time of Christmas they reduced prices for almost everything.
These kinds of Sale last for two months.
They allow everyone to enjoy their Christmas.
    But what we do?
Do we allow poor to celebrate Eid?

    Dawar
    USA
