We really need to Take Back The Tech!

On Nov 25th, it was The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and I was thinking about this serious issue of the violence against the 51% of the global population. After reading about this issue I am almost in shock that this phenomenon is an alarming issue not only in this region but Women continues to be unfortunate victims of male violence worldwide.
About two weeks back I decided to write something over the issue of acid burnt women and the problems they had to face even after recovering from the physical wounds. I have to be ashamed after reading and collecting the data which shows number of women who are murdered, kidnapped, raped or burnt, and it was all other than the cases of acid burn.
I would like to quote a few lines from the editorial published in daily dawn which has given a new point to think about. It says:

There are many more children now who are emotionally and mentally scarred for life after sharing as onlookers the violence experienced by their mothers and siblings.
Many boys from abusive households grow up to be violent men. That is why this curse has been escalating. In Karachi alone, Madadgar reported 1,065 cases of violence against women in the first 10 months of 2009.

This article also let me know that The UN secretary general has launched, to combat violence against women, a Network of Men Leaders. The idea is to bring together politicians, activists and religious figures and whoever influence public opinion to champion the cause of women’s rights.

Living in a male dominated society I some time really consider my self superior over the opposite gender, it might be the influence of the over all social air. However I believe that superiority comes with responsibility and one can only be superior if the entire obligation toward him is being fulfilled.
I came to know about this take back the tech campaign a night before the last one, thanks to Jehan Ara Ma’am, as soon as I got to know the importance and the aim behind this campaign I felt like it might be the way I can try to fulfill my responsibility. Take Back The Tech! It is a campaign to be held during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence (25 Nov - 10 Dec). It is a call to everyone - especially women and girls - to take control of technology to end violence against women. According to the website;

This campaign is organised by the Association of Progressive Communications, Women’s Networking Support Programme (APC WNSP). APC WNSP is a global network of more than 175 women in over 55 countries promoting gender equality in the design, implementation, access and use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and in the policy decisions and frameworks that regulate them.

This is a step taken to bring the safety and the sense of being secure among the women in every corner of the world. Each day a new action will be given to educate the 51% to know how one can be safe and end the violence against the women. Well I am with this campaign because I can only accept my self superior, which certainly I am not, if I fulfill my responsibility and do some good to who ever deserve it. Therefore we must Take Back the Tech to route out the violence against women.

You can join the TakeBackTheTech-Pakistan Cause on Facebook to get the updates about all the TBTT campaigns being run around the glob, join the TakeBackTheTech Facebook group and/or follow it on Twitter here.

To make this world safe for one of the most beautiful creation of Almighty Allah; I believe one must support this campaign. Now, “how to support?” might be the question, the answer is simple you can comment and suggest any idea which can increase the effect of the campaign and bring some real good result, you can also share any female harassment cases, or simply any thing which you really feel can be or must be done. As Fariha Apa said in her blog; Ka-Blog with us! [In Filipino slang, “ka-BLOG” means someone you blog with.]
Lets TAKE BACK THE TECK to make this world safe…
