We Got another Gift: Richard G. Olson – Nominated as US ambassador to PakistanBy Sobia Raja • Jul 19th, 2012 • Category: Politics • 3 Comments
US president Barack Husain Obama nominated Richard G. Olson as ambassador to Pakistan and he will take over his office after the conformation of senate, this decision was taken on Wednesday after the resignation of Cameron Munter the previous US ambassador to Pakistan,. Now Richard G. Olson will serve the Pakistan and will work on the strengthening of the relationship of both countries.
Richard G. Olson is a good looking, well achieved professional foreign officer With 30 year veteran, Majored in Law, History and society from Brown University., has served as ambassador in UAE from the period 2008-2011; and from 2011 to 2012 he has served the Coordinating Director for Development and Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Kabul. He joined US department of state in 1982, and up till now he has served tenures in Uganda, Mexico, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Iraq.
Richard G. Olson looks like a well achieved professional, but it depends on our leadership how they handle him, we have previous bad experiences with US officials, basic purpose of his nomination is to withdraw combat forces from Afghanistan. But for Pakistani leadership it must be important to know the real mandate with which he is coming. Because at this time when Pakistani nation is demanding Pak-US relationship at bilateral ties, our Govt. should handle him accordingly in order to achieve the best from him, otherwise we can never forget Cameron Munter, how he dramatized the Osama Bin Laden’s death in Pakistan and created a lot of issues here. We never want such a US ambassador to Pakistan as Munter was. But point arises here how Obama can appoint someone good towards Pakistan? Point to ponder!!! Think over it.
