As being professional I am using UPS from last 7 years for my home office, in fact it is backing up my entire house. I have used several brands of UPS including, Homage, Dany UPS, Vision, Mercury and Homage Vision 1000, APC UPS, Liebert , Emersion and a lot of Desi Invertors.

I would like to share my opinions and experience for helping you to choose the best among in the market. The best for your home is to buy a Home Age UPS with almost 200 amperes battery! The cost of UPS is almost 10000/- with one year warranty. The battery price of 210 Exide is 14500/- now days which gives you backup of almost 3 hours with 2 Fans and 4 Energy Savors. (Experienced) Homeage is a daughter company of KENWOOD so it holds a strong brand image behind it.

The mere electricity conditions in Pakistan makes it more difficult to live as an average time for 200 amperes battery by UPS is almost 4 hours but it hardly occurs that electricity remains for 4 hours and thus battery never got charge at its full .

Which Battery should I Buy?

According to shop keepers and Mechanics(electricians) the best brand for battery in Pakistan is AGS, but some people goes for Exide and Some for FB, It’s really hard to choose the brand of battery because every other persons guides you for some other brand and surprisingly he proves it as the best.

For me its Exide as it is running for years in my home but the average life of a battery is 14 months. Keep the levels equal by adding the distilled water for a new battery and add acidic distilled water to the old batteries which is commonly available at Auto shops.

How to care for your battery:

-Loosen the Caps on the top of battery in summers

-Check water levels every 15 days and add water if needed, use distilled water only

- Use acidic water for old batteries.

- Give proper time to discharge batteries in the winters, don’t turn the UPS off in winters keep it alive.

- Place an insolation underneath the battery for example a wooden sheet or any packing material.

Some facts about homage ups:

- Takes 4 hours to charge a new battery of 200 amperes.

- Takes 8 Hours to charge a very old battery of 200 amperes.

- Have two modes i-e normal , Line mode

- Not a Sine Wave UPS , its an invertor ( means gives a restart to your electrical/electronic appliances)

The very best is to buy a gas generators but prices are very high and reliability is still a question mark but no doubt the running cost is very affordable.
