Unscheduled Load Shedding Kills

By Ali Yar Khan • Aug 31st, 2008 • Category: Politics • No Responses

The situation regarding the power is worsening and there is no respite in sight. Scheduled load-shedding takes the toll for more than ten hours, while additionally people suffer from 6 to 8 hours un-announced power outages in the hot and humid weather and the life has become miserable.

Education, industry and business have been hit pretty severely by the load shedding but now due to day in and day out load shedding, it has become extremely hard to live by. The minister for power and water, the most incapable man in country in affairs of power, says that by the next year, people won’t be suffering from load shedding. He is not liar like his leader Zardari, because he knows that most of the people would have met their creator long before their creator due to the load-shedding and shortage of everything.

Dams and power plants are the long shots, but government should adopt some steps to alleviate the misery of people on war footings. In electricity, the losses occur due to various reasons. One of the glaring one is the use of substandard copper wires which are common in the country. Copper offers least resistance to electricity and power wastages are zero. If other low cost materials are amalgamated in the wire the resistance of electricity increases and so does the power bill. Just due to this alone, the wastage ranges from 10-15 per cent and the solution lies in a strict check on wire quality by government regulators with full transparency and cross check. In this regard, energy audits are the way to go.
