Tough and Lovely Task For PML-N : Will PPP Comply ?

By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Feb 20th, 2008 • Category: Pakistan Vote'08, Worth A Second Look • One Response

Cut the crap and listen. Nawaz Sharif has run all his campaign rallying for the following three issues:

1- Restoration of Judges

2- Ouster of Musharraf

3- Restoration of Constitution in its pure form

They have been very much clear in their stance during whole of their campaign, and that is why they were not washed up by the sweeping sympathy vote of Pakistan People’s Party which they got after the horrendous assassination of Benazir Bhutto. They got the votes solely on these lofty notions and ambitious designs, and people expect them to stick to their agenda.

Nawaz Sharif and Javed Hashmi, after the elections, today, have talked to media and have asserted their promises yet again, and we believe them. We also need to be very realistic. It’s not possible that they would be able to form government in center alone or even with PPP. PPP has got a clear lead and they are in a position to act as the leader in the coalition government.

PPP hasn’t been clear on their stance over the reinstatement of judiciary and the status of their dealing with Musharraf in post elections set-up, and that has cost them few seats and now they depend upon PML-N in Punjab and Center and depend upon ANP in NWFP. Had they announced their un-fledgling commitment to the cause of judiciary, they would have got a landslide victory throughout Pakistan.

Now PML-N has justifiably told them that PML-N sticks to its promises which it did with the voters, and they will form coalition with PPP only after their resolve to the above mentioned three issues. That is noble and that is required, and that is realistic. Because if PPP doesn’t really go for it, and then everything is in front of the people, and it would anger them to no bound.

    with dues respect…

1: Nawaz Sharif flips flops and makes ad hoc decisions… only the coming weeks will tell how he sticks to these

2: re: the third of the three “issues” viz the 1973 Constituion…which Constitution the pristine one agreed to by all the parties or the Bhutto “amended” one … in particular the first five or six amendments that changed the character and led to an assault on it by Zina ul Haq….or the one amended by Zina….or…..

    see the vagueness?

May Nawaz get his wish in the form a real independent judiciary … amen!

    ;)
