The Sales at Shops during Ramadan!
By Mian Usman • Sep 5th, 2009 • Category: Misc, Worth A Second Look • One ResponseAll other parts of the world we see genuine sales and promotional campaigns at Christmas and Easter where people could buy real good stuff right for eatables to clothing at 1/3 of actual price. We see alot of buying activity there and people either rich or the poor get benefit out of these sales on discounted prices.
The scenario is a total reversal in Pakistan, just as Ramadan approaches, every thing’s price goes up by 20 %, the hoarders would increase the price of daily consumable food items. The sales we see on shops is having stuff which is old and at a very high price and the quality of the product is also very low.
We see Ramadan is an opportunity to multiply our profits in an unfair mean. Again the people who could afford to buy at such high prices, dont have any issues but its the masses with limited income who will be in trouble. As per our social norms, people got to spend a lot at Eid starting from holding Iftar dinners, buying clothes and shoes for kids, looking after every family member and that accounts for a great deal expenses which is far beyond the means of these struggling people. As a result people borrow money from each other, take advance salaries and do the needful. After each Eid they struggle to manage their expenses for at least two months and then comes the second Eid where people have to sacrifice animal as well and the same cycle starts again.
Hour of the need is that we make some consumer rights associations like they do have in the west. These association work in close collaboration with the government to discourage the people and organization which target multiple profits in Ramadan through hoarding and selling sub standard stuff and literally looting the people who are already finding it difficult to meet both ends.

Writing poetry and articles is one my favorite passtimes. I write truth openly in a straight forward manner and dont believe in an indirect hinting towards the truth. Am an ordinary man with an extra ordinary wish to see peace, harmony, justice and equality for common man before I die. For that I have decided to write my inner thoughts on the day to day sufferings around us. Silence can not solve any problem it rather increases it. My struggle will end with me. Am grateful TPS to provide me an opportunity to join a group of very talented writers from whome am learning a lot. Am not a man of letters so you would find my expression not as good as my seasoned and experienced partners who regularly write, my focus is primarily on the message in my articles and TPS is helping me to convey it to a lot of people.

Just go to market in afternoon and night times in ramadan and see the hastiness of Muslims in market area.
We say prayer five times for learning discipline and purifying our soul.
we keep fast to increase our self control.
we give zakat to give share of our money and space to needy people around us.
But after seeing the hustle and bustle in our commercial areas that these obligations are still less to educate us as an organized nation. We really need severe training to behave like, discipline, purified, balanced and sharing nation.
