The Misfits!
By Mian Usman • Feb 16th, 2010 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesWe have a dilemma as a Nation that we tend to ignore core competence of people while appointing them on key positions. It results in total disaster and despite having progress, we tend to move in an opposite direction.
Let’s evaluate the history, We are an Islamic Democratic Republic Of Pakistan, more than half of the time since our independence, we were ruled by the military dictators who were were working on behalf of the people in the west. Then the Political leadership apart from few renowned leaders like Liaqat Ali Khan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Muhammad Khan Junejo, and above all Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif (people still or might have reservations about all of them, just highlighted the noticeable leaders), rest of the lot seemed to be misfits. We can understand that when forming a government, ruling parties has to look after all the supporting parties and people with in their own wing as far as distribution of ministries and appointments of key positions in government sector is concerned, but there has to be one thing in mind first, is the said person capable of handling the position that is being offered to him or her?
Same case is in the private and government sector organizations, in order to give favors to people who are good at lip servicing, wrong people are selected to look after sensitives areas of operations. It creates multiple level negative effects, hard working professionals are de-motivated, growth of professionals gets slow, organizations are run in a very non-productive and non-professional manner. Apart from Ministries of foreign affairs, Law, internal affairs, religious affairs, and defence, we have have seen almost misfits heading other ministries and important organizations.
The most controversial of all is Pakistan Cricket, hockey, and football boards, it seems like a zoo out there, every body talking in his own manner, every thing else is looked after but the effort to promote the games and to work for welfare and well being of players.
We are fond of politics to such an extent that we exercise it not only on the main stream political arena, but we also exercise it at the work place, with in our houses (family Politics) at educational Institutes and literally every where. Why we do that? the Answer is very simple, we are a nation who has plenty of time to waste on other activities rather focusing on our jobs. If we do not perform our duties as per our agreed job descriptions, we are not earning our lively hood in a fair manner and are not doing any thing to justify that we can continue our job or not.
We praise west a lot, they have made tremendous growth over the last three decades. The people out there are having average IQ like us, but one thing they are very good at, they study what they like, they are good at choosing own careers and work in a thorough manner. You will find them sitting in their office at sharp 8 a.m in the morning and they leave 5 p.m no matter what whether it was snowing heavily, raining, family member not well etc but they will manage rest every thing in a manner that it does not disturb their working at offices or at businesses. Even Arabs, of most of us think that they do not work at all cause their generations after generations are filthy rich, but believe me I have seen majority of them even CEOs of organization starting their work at morning prayer time and work round the clock till off from the work.
The most important thing, when we visit corporate offices abroad whether government or private sector, you will hardly see people doing un-necessary talking, wasting their time on face book or playing cards or other games at computers, Browsing web sites which are not related to work, there are no long tea breaks and lunch breaks, people make their own tea or coffee and make use of most of their time in positive activity, they tend to close day’s task to avoid pending issues for the next morning. They take care of their health by regular work out, swimming etc and the best part is that they enjoy full one months holidays which they spend with their friends and families.
We do not need any misfits, we need people who love their job and respect their work place ethics, we do not want frustrated people just killing their time and earning livelihood and not making a great career. We have a tendency to look for reasons to not to work, we take offs un-planned un-announced that results in disturbing the work place activities. We believe in lip servicing and less work and do politics to make our superiors happy but that shows an over all slow progress of the organization.
All we believe is doing criticism, but we do it in our official time. We blame the government and the system, and we are ones not following the rules here. We believe in growth but we do not perform our duties with honesty and hard work, we want government to give us facilities in education, health, social welfare etc, but we do not pay our taxes, we want Pakistan to be organized like UAE and we throw the trash on the roads, chalk the walls, we waste time in offices, we do not want to work hard or to make an extra effort.
We need to spread education and also get the working class related to agriculture sector to come out of the influence of the feudal lords and cast vote on their own will so that we get better people in the National and Provincial Assemblies. We are a struggling Nation as far as Social and Economic Growth is concerned, we need right people for the right jobs as we can not afford any more blunders. Its in our hand to start bringing in the improvements in our area of concern and fields, if we start realizing our duties and perform them religiously accurate, no power in the world can stop us achieving a rapid growth and prosperity in the days to come.

Writing poetry and articles is one my favorite passtimes. I write truth openly in a straight forward manner and dont believe in an indirect hinting towards the truth. Am an ordinary man with an extra ordinary wish to see peace, harmony, justice and equality for common man before I die. For that I have decided to write my inner thoughts on the day to day sufferings around us. Silence can not solve any problem it rather increases it. My struggle will end with me. Am grateful TPS to provide me an opportunity to join a group of very talented writers from whome am learning a lot. Am not a man of letters so you would find my expression not as good as my seasoned and experienced partners who regularly write, my focus is primarily on the message in my articles and TPS is helping me to convey it to a lot of people.
