i remember reading about the great Professor Abdus Salam in my school library. In some science book i guess.

A truly great man whom even Indira Gandhi asked to sit in her chair when he was vising India.

Aftab Sahab,
Professor Abdus Salam is a national hero. It were not "We" who disgraced him, as you suggest. Rather it was only an extremist minority whose intolerant attitude made him go into exile. "We" the educated class still revere him as the greatest Pakistani Physicist ever, regardless of his religious beliefs which of course are a personal matter for anyone. The actions of a minority are in no way representative of the collective aspirations of the majority. Today, even in our 10th Grade text books, Dr. Abdus Salam is eulogized as a national hero.

Hassan Sahib, what "we are going through turbulent times" - let's face it my friend, this "turbulence" started since the founding fathers got this country for us and it has been jolting us pretty regularly. I wish you would invest some time in reading a bit about our history - not much just between 1947 - Present. It is not much only 62 years - not even a drop of water in the vast oceans of human history. It will enhance you as a person no matter what you intend doing with yourself in life. It will provide you lot of info about who we are and what our accomplishments are it will help you understand the issues we have & always had. It is said self-knowledge is essential to empathise with your counterpart.

You talk about 'national pride'. Good, give me a few reasons to be proud. Please, don't give me example of Professor Abdus Salam and his winning the Nobel Prize; yes, he was one of the greatest Pakistanis. We disgraced him; we deprived him even a decent funeral ceremony and I dare you to ask 10 of your friends who the man was & lets see howmany have even heard of him.

No amount of praying will solve our problems, this we can do with our hardwork alone. Praying is not going to 'dissolve' the terrorism into thin air - remember the terrorists can pray, too, and perhaps do.

I agree with you & I suppose proud, too, that the ordinary Pakistani has the guts & the will to withstand whatever hardships come our way. You know what, sometimes I wish that they were a little impatient, a little fedup and refuse to be taken for a ride anymore and said, "NO MORE!"

Tauseef,
To this day, our former President General Musharraf maintains that Kargil operation was a major success that had shocked the Indian Army. He says that we were all set to evict Indian troops out of our territory of Siachin, since the peaks overlooking the only road link to Leh were already under Pakistan Army’s control. However, the greatest traitor coward PM Nawaz Sharif ordered a withdrawl, due to his blind love for India and friendship with PM Vajpayee and we had to give up strategic peaks that our gallant soldiers had occupied after months of planning. Our soldiers only started suffering when they started to withdraw from the peaks. It was during withdrawal that we had to suffer great casualties. Otherwise, we had the upper hand. Two Indian Airforce Mig29s and an Indian Army Mi8 chopper were downed by our forces. Only and only traitor Nawaz Sharif for responsible for his evil role in turning a potential victory into a hasty withdrawal. It was Pakistan Army's hatred for traitor Nawaz Sharif that led General Musharraf to topple his government on October 12, 1999.
