Terrorists are at the gates of Nukes, US Still fears
By Tazeen • Feb 5th, 2010 • Category: Politics • One ResponseOnce again, after a short lull, the Western media has once again started to whine that the terrorists within Pakistan could any time storm and capture the Pakistani nuclear installations. It’s a matter of open guessing that whether Americans and their cousines are worried, fearful or they are just making up an excuse to take the Pakistani nukes under custody.
Nuclear experts and US officials say the biggest fear is of an inside job amid growing anti-American feeling in Pakistan. Last year 3,021 Pakistanis were killed in terrorist attacks, more than in Afghanistan, yet polls suggest Pakistanis consider the United States to be a greater threat than the Taliban. This is because US hasn’t been honest and fair to the Pakistanis. They may scold the regimes in Pakistan, but they cannot win the hearts and minds of people of Pakistan in the way they have been acting in this region.
Americans seem to be really jazzed-up for this cause. They are striking nuclear deals with India, the arch-enemy of Pakistan and Pakistan has primarily kept the nuclear capability to remain safe from the aggressive Indian misadventure, but US is like hell at work to de-nuclearize Pakistan. As usual they are traversing a road, which they know nothing about and about to harm the delicate balance in the region.

Pakistan is partially responsible for these statements. By continuing to be defensive about this issue they are only encouraging the americans. Our leaders need to stop making defensive statements. Instead they should ignore these stories. You can’t change what westerners think about Pakistan.
