Talibanization of Karachi : Fears of MQM

(r) Junaid Zaman • Aug 11th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 26 CommentsAccording to the media reports, the chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain, has said that the country was facing socio-economic crises and impeachment of president at this point in time but the conspiracies to escalate Talibanization in Karachi was the chief issue to be addressed. The threat of Talibanisation is on the rise in Karachi and Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) activists must remain ‘mentally and physically vigilant’ to face the threat, MQM Leader Altaf Hussain has directed his workers.
MQM has referred to the statement of Maulvi Omer of Taliban Tehrik that they would strike in Karachi as it was the nerve of Pakistan. The recent visit of Umm-e-Hassan, the wife of late Ghazi Abdul Rasheed of Lal Masjid was part of an agenda to Talibanise the country’s financial hub, according to the MQM leader Farooq Sattar. He said that Umm-e-Hassan visited various religious seminaries of the city and provoked students to launch jihad, noting that after her visit the activities of some extremist elements have increased.
It goes without saying that Karachi is mini Pakistan and it’s the nerve center. If something happens in Karachi, it is strongly felt throughout Pakistan. Like, military operations are going on in the tribal region of NWFP and in some settled areas and also in the Balochistan, but rest of the country is not that much affected and the life is going on normal. But if something happens in Karachi, then it would affect the whole country.
So this issue is very very critical. Do you really think that the fears of MQM are true?

Dear sir though its 0745 am and I am having my tea, but your linguistic way to inquisitively ask the readers whether ,fear of MQM with regard to talibanisation is true or not, has really poke me to the level, that left no option but to react aggressively, though, through the similar linguistic manner, within the premises of decency.
Astonishingly, a retired arm forces “BARRI” officer, who has a profile of one star general, have very innocently asked visitors on an international platform, to comment on a topic that is an international threat throughout the globe, to maliciously involve a regional political party motively, so to engage in verbal victimization without, sanely scrutinizing the threat, its reality at his own side and opinion, and supportive facts and figures and interpretation at his level so to express dig out the realm.
This is also very amazing that although in almost every second article being written by your esteemed sole has intended display of your personnel lassoing information based intelligence report indicating the authenticity to support reality and version of thoughts, but here on this important issue of threat, a suspicious inquisitive questionnaire is floated, which expresses as opinion, that it’s a fake threat in writers opinion whereas what is the opinion of public in this regard.
My dearest Brigadier sahib, Eyes witness what is been shown and mind logically interpret what is seen.
Ethically, deviation of thoughts only results when there are two episodes of different theme thereby, balancing each other, thus directing individual to indulge in discussion with open horizon, dimensions and sphere hence, keeping all ifs and buts ,in legitimate vocabulary.
Action and related turmoil have linear and symbiotic resemblance, in meaning, explanation and resulting outcome, therefore, in no way exemption can be permitted to suspicion.
Prefix and suffix awards and medal explain the legitimacy of concealed qualities that grants permissible visa to enter the domain of intellects.
However distraction, distortion and displacement from ethical, moral and professional attitude due to factors that could buy any thing, less ability and knowledge, deteriorate these preliminary and honorary awards.
Nevertheless, in spite of such deranged and distorted figure of awarded credentials, discrimination is still the subject of study on ground of responses, reactions, and interpretations and assessment.

Why it is that Americans have asked their consulate to submit report with reference to the daily float of reservation by Mr. Altaf Hussein, for submission of ground realities, from Karachi to hub.
Mr. you people need to understand, that your attitude towards discrimination has forfeited your understanding and abilities to own your own areas.
It’s not the matter of Mr. Altaf or his politics.
It’s a real threat in the shape of talibanisation and is almost a due reservation with implication, if urgent measures are not initiated to curtail these cruel stake holders, Taliban’s.

…..the involvement of a particular casts member in riots just after benazir assassination is the answer of this query .though i dont consider them taliban but i believe that they are very dangerous for karachi ,the way they destructed karachi after B.B s death …and then whole media turned that into saying that it was AWAAM s reaction ,though lots of people ,including my own brothers witnessed that particular casts people as looting banks and firing cars…..is an international and local level conspiracy for destructing karachi .
so this example and lots more trifle events of khi ,shows that they are really a danger for us .
Lets suppose,Taliban manage to take over Karachi,what do you guys think,would happen.I am sure you people would repeat (you are already calling it a Destructive phenomena) what westren media has been propagating since the Taliban came in to power in Afghanistan.Well for me, only those people need to fear who are devoted supporters of “Enlighten Moderation” plus all the people related to the Media (entertainment).I know they are quite ruthless but just check out the crime ratio of Afghanistan when they were incharge,and as far as peace is concerned, the people used to go for prayers while their shops remained open and no one to look after but no theft,the governers’ used bicycle to travel,the drugs were almost eliminated.As far as the propaganda about the fact that did not allow women to come out of houses and didn’t allow them to go to schools..is there any proof.A female journalist(westren) was captured by them and later on when she was relaesed she was so impressed by their treatment and the respect that they gave to her, that she converted to Islam,,so much for the Enlightens.The fact is that we are all culprits (we know what we are doing is not right)but who cares about the “Life after Death”. I am not a “Mullah” rather an ordinary guy who listens to music,watches T.V.(Including our very own new breed of private channels where freedoms means ,ladies displaying their beauty,emulating the wetren countries life styles and are proud of that,I think the day is very near when our Models and actresses would be seen doning bikinis)movies,occasionally listens to English musioc…Justin Timberlake,Madonna,Enrique etc but really while I do that I do feel guilt inside.
The message is if you cant do right then atleast consider the wrong things wrong because even that effort may save us on “The Judgement Day”.

I have read in some blog posts by Pakistanies how this Taliban is ready to strike at Karachi but nNOT at Islamabad or Rawalpindi which is so near them where their main tormentor Musharaff lives.People are afraid of even mentioning the name of pathans who are routinely terrorising the local population especially girls and even sodomising young boys and also indulge in all the criminal activities. altaf and Musharaff are RAW agents is the ultimate left handed gift you can give them.
What about the Mohajirs taking over Karachi?
A very important issue has been riased. However the writer has reserved his judgment and not spoken off it making it an opinionative discussion.
In my humble opinion, the threat issued by Taliban spokesman was in response to the asserttion made by MQM chief. It is interesting to note that Karachi has been on a peaceful mode as far as the suicide bombings and other such incidents are concerned lately. It was back in the MQM and PML-Q led govt that Karachi became quite “HOT”
The non-riasal of such an issue then and raising it now is meant to make a issue out of non-issue. TTP is agreesively engaged in Northren areas and on Afghan Border. It can not dare to divert its focal attention from their. For they know it better that even with such a diversion to be created they would be at loss ultimtaley for Armed Forces wouldnt be made to engage in Karachi hence their focal attention towards the current hot zone would not decline.
Also just to add to it the recent statement by MQM chief that Karachitties and speciffically the Urdu Speaking youths should arm themselves is a sign of politics of Khi going back to early 90’s. When the gun culture that had recently declined was quite an “IN” thing.
Also to note that nowhere has it been mentioned in the MQM chiefs statements to strengthen the defennses by uniting against the evil and helping LEA’s in combatting the it, he again and again emphasises on self-rearment.
It is a very danegerous statement and would ultimately lead to ethnic violence for we all know where the Real Taliban Nucleus lies. It is the Pushtun Community in general which is assumed to be associated with this movement.
Another of my apprehenssion is that after quite a calmn having been witnessed in Khi back when MQM was in real power at Centre and Sindh The situation seems to be changing and it is primarily due to the fact that the focal power shift can be witnessed towards PPP in khi if thigs fare well and that would certainly plunge MQM popularity in one sense or the other. And we all know that Karachi is a battelfield in terms of Politics between Jamaat Islami and MQM. And now PPP too is emerging on it after JI’s boycott of recent elections.
This is very much true that Talibans are observing the situtaion of Karachi closely.Federal goverment should take serious notice of such activities before it gets too late and in this regard Mqm’s message is not a joke.Self deffence is a right of every human this is also written in Quran and we are muslims who are talibans to teach us Islam.After death we are going to be answerable to God not too Talibans.
In short the people of Karachi will not allow talibans to destroy the peace of our city in the name of Islam because what talibans are doing is not something what Islam says.Islam gives a message of peace and harmony.
We strongly condenm the presence of talibans in Karachi and appeal to the higher goverment authorities to take serious action against them.We also appreaciate Mqm’s effort of not letting talibans to get hold of the city.Karachi is a peacefull city and the people living in Karachi are educated and peacefull people they dont want any taliban’s to rule over them.

I have read comments of the peoples submitted above, and most of them i see are supporters of Talibans, why not the majority of peoples in Pakistan support those fake leaders who are Top Ranked and International Robbers, Dacoits, Liers. The so called Pakistani Nation is at the end of destruction because they have no mind and ability to distinguish between truth and lie. Therefore these peoples should support those power who want to demolish Pakistan by threatening, killing educated peoples who lives in Pakistan, and want to work for Pakistan. The thinking of Pakistani Peoples is also converted into Feudal Minds, they just think of theirselves they are totally selfish and full of jellousy. Our hearts cry when we saw and feel what is happening with Pakistan by they hands of those who have not sacrificed even a single Hair of their head, and rulling Ellite May, Our Elders and Anncesstors have sacrificed their 20,000,00 Lives for this Pakistan where their own childrens are kicked and beaten by everyone. Mqm and Altaf Hussain is the only one who has the courage to speak the truth and tell the reality to the people of Pakistan.Talibanisation is going on in Karachi there is no question about it and those who does not believe in this they should visit to some mosque and imam bar gah in Abbas town scheme 33, Clifton block 1 and 5 and shireen jinnah colony they can see from there eyes who talibans are and what are they doing and what they want to do in Karachi.Mqm is not wrong they are doing the right thing because 99% people of Karachi does not want talibans,they do not agree with there views and intentions.
My sincere request to all Pakistani’s are to be united and fight against talibanisation if we want to save our dearest country as now our country is passing through a very crucial time at this time we have to proof ourseleves as true Pakistani.
I think that there is a real threat of Taliban coming to Karachi. The ANP and JI are exciting young pushtun boys and pitting them against the local population. I can confirm that a number of meetings have been held in various mosques to enlist support of more and more religious zealots.
I live in Karachi. I was born here and it is very dear to me. I think that it is the responsibility of all those who live in Karachi to rise and save their city.

There can not be a single Pakistani who will disagree with the reality that karachi is financial capital and economical and industrial hub of Pakistan and is truly called MINI PAKISTAN.
Taliban are not a fiction and there atrocities and brutality on the name of religion is not a horror story. Taliban have there routes in karachi as there are almost 2000 unregistered and registered Madarsa in karachi of which many are having links with those regions where taliban are right now in power and are killing innocent people,burning schools and fighting with our own Army to take over.
Karachites have witnessed that after almost a decade of violence,blood shed worst law and order situation there city was in relative calm and is progressing in all manners from last eight years.
Those who were on road on 27th of december 2007, a black day in history of Pakistan when we have lost a great leader, exactly know that who were the people who have killed,burned,looted,harassed,kidnapped womens,raped and taken away cash from banks and ATM’s before torching them. Those were the people who have nothing to do with PPP but at the time of grief,pain and sorrow they were working on there own agenda under the cover of so called public reaction. People of karachi will never forget that those people and those were the same who are really supporting Taliban in karachi.
Unfortunately a religious political party which was against the formation of Pakistan is also the mastermind behind Talibanization of Karachi.
People of Karachi must stand together hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder to save MINI PAKISTAN from Talibanizaation because they are not only threat to Pakistan but also defacing Islam.

Many Chaman businesses have offices in Dubai and the port city and free trade zone of Jebel Ali, and insiders say that the Taliban have convinced local businessmen to move their money through hawalas to Taliban leaders including Mullah Abdul Razaq, Mullah Abdul Rahim and Mullah Rozi, and several others.
Mullah Abdul Razaq, a resident of the Pakistani town of Chaman and former minister of interior affairs in the deposed Taliban regime, is considered a key player in the suspected money trail from the region to the Middle East.
When we think of Karachi, we think of a financial hub and port city of Pakistan, throbbing businesses and industries, some great authentic restaurants, a nerve center of Pakistan’s economy.
According to the news of October,2 ,2008 that according to the media 43 Taliban are arrested while entering in the financial Hub (Karachi) most of them were proved foreigners but also claiming that we have been living in karachi for many years .
being a Pakistani, being a karachier some questions raise in my mind that:
Q. Who are they ?
Q Why were they trying to enter in karachi?
Q What was their purpose ? (Destabilise karachi ? )
Q Were they really Karachiers as they were claiming (but According to Officials / media they
were Ozbigs, Afghanies, and etc…)
Q Where will they live, if they succeed to enter ?

When giving a comment a suggestion or advice one must stay neutral. Any comment or an advice that has a political, ethnic or religious partiality in it can never convince any one.
Talibanisation is a fact in karachi, kidnapping and killing of Daniel pearl, Police encounter in DHA phase 2 ext with Alqaida terrorists, sactarian killing, attacks on mosques and imambargah, suicide attack of Nishter park, series of blast near PACC, Suicide attack on Sheraton hotel and 18 th october suicide attack on Mohterma Shaheed Bibi are few of the long list to prove.
One may disagree with the scale,intensity and spread of Taliban as MQM is claiming but can not disagree with there presence.
All the ground realities and what is happening around in Karachi, specially on exit or entry point of karachi is more than enough as an eye opener.
Let’s accept reality before its too late.

The mufti at the Binori Town Mosque, a venerable institution in the heart of the city, was a leading defender of the Taliban. Islamic groups openly recruited warriors here to fight in Afghanistan or Kashmir. But by and large the kidnapping of Mr. Pearl may be a glaring exception such militants were not involved in violence within Karachi. Feelings certainly run deep around the large madrasa, or seminary, attached to the Binori Town Mosque, where angry students are quick to berate a Western visitor about the global oppression of Islam. On a public corner outside, a tall, sturdy flagpole has been defiantly erected with the black-and-white-striped flag of a pro-Taliban group a flag that has come to symbolize the spirit of jihad.
