Taliban Bogey Creation in Europa
By The Pakistani Spectator • Jan 24th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 7 CommentsDoes this litany of death, fear and violence indicate to you that the terrorism has
“largely ended” or it’s just sporadic or does it indicate to you that the spokespersons telling us the terrorism has “largely ended” are “largely nuts”?
The answer to that question determines whether you’re observing the things with open eyes living in Pakistan or you are listening to President Musharraf in Davos. At one side, President is posing in front of West that we are fully securing our nuclear assets and on the other we are facing a very abominable and formidable enemy in our tribal region, which is steadily spreading inland.
On second thought, Why doesn’t the West worry about the people of Pakistan, which are the real asset of the country? It’s only worried about the nuclear assets. President Musharraf has also flummoxed the Western leaders by saying that Pakistan really doesnt need democracy or we in this part of world doesnt really made for basic human rights.
Our man, who was formerly at the back of horse, is now playing down the bogey of Osama Bin Laden created by wild west, and now he is diverting their attentions towards the local Talibans, a joint product of Pakistan, USA, and KSA. Now this product is being exploited and used by India and some other invisible hands to destabilize Pakistan.
Pervez Musharraf said in Paris on Tuesday that “the Afghan-based fundamentalist Islamic group Taliban is a bigger problem for the stability of Pakistan than the al-Qaeda terrorist network.” He stressed that Osama bin Laden’s network had been decimated.
Bogeys are the requirements of the regimes who want to stay in power un-naturally. Bogeys are most useful pretexts for the regime, who want to do something really evil. Like United States used the bogey of WMD in Iraq to get oil, and as they are hatching the bogey of Iranian nuclear capability to get Iranian oil. It’s a guaranteed gravy-train for Big Business and Big Oil. It’s the linchpin of the whole Neo-con ideology; why rectify a problem when there’s so much money to be made off of continually tinkering with ways to cope with it? That’s what the US is doing in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.
Pakistan would do well to have its own bogey in the form of Taliban. If we manage to get world’s support to counter the Taliban bogey then not only we would get enormous amount of aid, but also the assassination of Benazir Bhutto would be solved without much ado. And as a bonus, we would get rid of future-less militants.

Most of the suicide bombers are coming from South of the Punjab, as TPS also mentioned in some previous article. I want to know what government is doing in that regard?
Davos tour is just “Luxury at Dusk” for Musharraf.
Osama is dead, so they need a new bogey. This time its a compendium of boogies which goes by the name of Taliban.
Everyone should have known that this was where the war was going. There never was going to be any kind Osama finding. They will change the scope and will slice and dice the enemy. Its the never ending war until someone sane comes and start the political solution.
Who cares if it makes any sense. Americans and common sense parted company years ago.
Kamil, I now understand how empires fall: Common sense is not politically correct.
Baitullah Meshud, also known as the emir of South Waziristan, is described by Pakistani authorities as a brutal but able leader who commands thousands of followers. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf blames him for the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, as well as a spate of recent attacks here that have left more than 400 dead. NATO authorities in Afghanistan have offered a $50,000 reward for his capture.
So I reckon, Musharraf is right about it.
