By Tazeen • Nov 25th, 2011 • Category: Politics

Well, I read the Javed Chaudhry’s column in express about Saiful Islam and his luxuries and the way he was then captured. It tells a  lot about the vicissitudes of time. Below are his picture before the arrest and after the arrest.

I don’t know why but he reminds me of Bilawal, Hamza, and Moonis.

Media circles have been touting loudly for many years that one of the prime reason of the failure of democracy in Pakistan is the politics of heritage. Pakistan Political Culture: The Need for Systematic Chaos

By Ibad ur Rehman Ahmed • Mar 20th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look

I vouch for change.
I vouch for educating the masses; education that corresponds to awareness of the fundamental rights that every citizen has by virtue of the constitution regardless of how distorted and amended it appears over paper.
I vouch for a people who will not allow feudalism to influence their choice and will stand up against injustice.
I vouch for a people who will not come out on the streets just because they loved the fiery speeches of a leader and the fake promises made in them only to be let down and to reinstate him as their chief just because there was no other representative to elect.
I vouch for better retrospection and the importance of not forgetting what history has taught us.

With a much more informed media and a decidedly less partisan judiciary with a want to be more independent, we should spread awareness and consequently use, our rights to freedom of expression and association. To continually remind our leaders, that they rule but only to serve.

Where is Political Maturity?

Well before the elections of 18th February, even before the gruesome assassination of two-time Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, there were very strong and tangible signs of political maturity in Pakistan, and that is what forced a military dictator to hold the elections in the country after an iron rule, and that is without any [...]

He can also become President

By Altaf Khan • Sep 4th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look

Last night when I was itching in the queue outside Cinepax, Rawalpindi to get tickets to watch an American flick, I overheard a black-ticketer confiding merrily to one of his buddy that now he too is eligible for the president and a day would come soon, though he is afraid that he not a graduate [...]
