Sword Of Allah!

By Mian Usman • Dec 14th, 2009 • Category: Misc • One Response

Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed was awarded the title of sword of Allah by the prophet Mohammad(Peace Be Upon Him) at the end of Battle/ Ghazwah, of Motah. Motah town was lacated at the southern end of the Red Sea near Jordon. The battle was fought on 8th of Hijra in the month of Jamadiul Awwal. It was Ghazwah because the Prophet(PBUH) was alive and was in Madina. It was called battle since the Prophet(PBUH)was not present with the army. The prophet(Peace Be Upon Him)came to know that a large army of Romans (Shamis) had started moving towards Madina Munawwara. A force of three thousand could be managed to block the way hundred thousand well equipped with armed, therefore the prophet(PBUH) nominated thee commanders for the combat. The first was Hazrat Jaafar Tayyar, Prophet,s cousin and younger brother of Hazrat Ali (RA). If Jaffer Tayyar was martyred then, Hazrtat Zaid Bin Haris would take the flag and in case of his martyrdom Hazrat Abdullah Bin Rawaha would be the cammander of the force. In the event of his martyrdom, the force would decide for the flag bearer through consensus. The Muslims swiftly advanced and overtook Romans close to the locality of Motah and the fighting started.

Hazrat Jaffer Bin Tayyar took the flag and launched the assault against the enemy and killed a number of them… His right hand was cutoff and he took the flag in the left hand. Little after his left hand was chopped of by the sword of an enemy and he held the flag in his teeth and did not budge an inch but the sword of an enemy cut off his body into two and he was martyred. At this moment the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) informed the Suhabah (Companions) in Mdina that Jaffer Bin Tayyar was flying to the paradise with his cut off hands making them wings. In the pitched battle Zaid Bin Haris and Abdullah Bin Rawaha too fell martyred while fighting bravely the huge army of the enemy. Then through one opinion the Muslims gave the flag to Hazrat Kalid Bin Waleed who had the experience of war strategy. Hazrat Khalid had embranced Islam right after Ghazwa of Uhud and it was for the first time the commander to lead the Muslim army. Khalid Bin Waleed was the off spring of Banu Makhdoom tribe which had the illustrious tradition of expertise over warfare and valiant deeds. Hazrat Umar, the second Caliph of Islam was also form the same tribe.

Hazrat Khalid started fighting the enemy for some time when the night approached and according to the tradition of war those days, the armies separated from each other and proceeded to their camps to continue the battle the next morning. At night Hazrati Khalid Bin Waleed studied the war plan and came to the conclusion that it would be the foremost objective to fight a defensive war and save the small force to the maximum extent. He directed the 1500 soldiers on the rear to come to the fore front and the fighters on the front to move back in a far and wide area and move towards the battle field while raising full throated slogans of Allah -0-Akber. By evolving the strategy Khalid Bin Waleed started fighting the enemy next morning twisting on a side back back inch by inch for a defensive war. The enemy thought that there were fresh forces on the fore front and innumerable forces of Muslims were backing them and moving towards the battle field. The enemy further was unnerved that the commander was twisting on one side to encircle their army. This was the height of the psychological warefare that such a huge number of force came under pressure by the methodology adopted by Khalid Bin Waleed. The day long fighting continued and nine swords were broken at the hand of Hazrat Khalid. Then he was empty handed and an enemy was just throwing a spear towards Khalid when a Muslim solidier threw his sword swiftly towards him. The tenth sword proved decisive and the Romans started fleeing away. By that time half of the horse of Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed was drowned in the blood. Hazrat Khalid forbade his force to chase the enemy least they should turn back and assess their real strength. Then they would eliminate the succeeded to save the remaining army of Muslims God given wisdom for warfare. The historians are of the opinion that the battle remained undecided, but it was a miracle that adopting a right strategy Hazrat Khalid managed to force the enemy flee away save his small army from elimination.

When the Muslim army returned to Madina, the prophet Mohammad (PBUH) awarded the title of sword of Allah (Saifullah) to Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed for fighting the first and most difficult battle of his life with such a small force.

By all standards of the war Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed stands as the best Commander of history for all times. During his very first battle, he worked a miracle by the grace of Allah to drive away the huge army by leading a very small force of Muslims where very strong Commanders of the caliber of Jaffer Bin Tayyar, Zaid Bin Haris and Abdullah Bin Rawaha had fallen martyred valiantly facing the heavy odds in the battle. In the later history Khalid Bin Waleed trampled the mighty Bazantinian (Roman) Empire. He is the sole commander who did not face a single defeat in his life time. Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed, at a number of times, launched solo attack on the enemy armies that he should be martyred. But since he was sword of Allah, therefore this sword could not be broken. Many times he was injured but appeared victorious. He was such a legend that the enemy forces dreaded him so much that wherever his presence was known to them in any Muslim army they flew away. A number of traps were laid for Khalid Bin Waleed under the guise of negotiations to take his life, but he had such an acumen and vision that he fore saw that this is a trap and he in advance devised the strategy to frustrate the enemy designs. Even with a small number of force accompanying him during the negotiation, he returned safe and sound, killing a large number of enemy forces.

How Khalid Bin Waleed totally destroyed the heavy might of Roman Empire is a history making event of his life and is an example for the Generals of todays Armies

It is misconception that the present day war is more crucial, complex and difficult due to the invention of lethal Arms and mass destruction devices. But the today’s General has to command the armed forces while sitting in the observation rooms. The commanders at that stage of history had to lead the forces while lifting heavy weapons. There had been events in the ancient history of war that two kings or commanders decided to fight each other by saving the forces and such and such solo fights had been decision makers

Click For More Articles By Mian Usman Writing poetry and articles is one my favorite passtimes. I write truth openly in a straight forward manner and dont believe in an indirect hinting towards the truth. Am an ordinary man with an extra ordinary wish to see peace, harmony, justice and equality for common man before I die. For that I have decided to write my inner thoughts on the day to day sufferings around us. Silence can not solve any problem it rather increases it. My struggle will end with me. Am grateful TPS to provide me an opportunity to join a group of very talented writers from whome am learning a lot. Am not a man of letters so you would find my expression not as good as my seasoned and experienced partners who regularly write, my focus is primarily on the message in my articles and TPS is helping me to convey it to a lot of people.

  1. I dont have time to write a letter (once again) which will be addressed to you “Mian Usman” but on this topic “Khalid bin waleed” there is already something said by Mr. Zaid Hameed sahib in his audio recordings which was not more than a propaganda to bring honor to those who never deserved and totally forget those who deserve more than just honor. So I’m simply pasting my reply to Mr.Zaid hamid which might lighten you up as you have written “I write truth openly…” so better know the truth before writing it….
    —————————–
you better check over the net under the query “khalid bin walid” and I believe where you’ll find so many writeups (or made-ups) like yours, you’ll find so many authentic references over his devilish character. Just to support my words let me give you some gift here which might help you to get knowledge over this matter so you lighten up yourself and your writings so you can stop miss-guiding to the people who follow your write-ups…

    First Hadith:
    Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 628 & Bukhari :: Book 9 :: Volume 89 :: Hadith 299
Military Expeditions led by the Prophet (PBUH) (Al-Maghaazi)
    Narrated Salim’s father:

The Prophet sent Khalid bin Al-Walid to the tribe of Jadhima and Khalid invited them to Islam but they could not express themselves by saying, “Aslamna (i.e. we have embraced Islam),” but they started saying “Saba’na! Saba’na (i.e. we have come out of one religion to another).” Khalid kept on killing (some of) them and taking (some of) them as captives and gave every one of us his Captive. When there came the day then Khalid ordered that each man (i.e. Muslim soldier) should kill his captive, I said, “By Allah, I will not kill my captive, and none of my companions will kill his captive.” When we reached the Prophet, we mentioned to him the whole story. On that, the Prophet raised both his hands and said twice, “O Allah! I am free from what Khalid has done.”

    Second Hadith:
Tabaqatul Kubra by Ibn Sa’ad Vol.2 Page 147
“When Khalid had returned from destroying the ‘Uzzat (idol), The prophet (PBUH) sent him to Bani Judhaima calling them towards islam and did not send him to fight, Khalid left Makka with 350 men made up of Muhajireen (imigrants), Ansar (helpers), and the tribe of bani salim. When khalid reached his destination he asked (the bani Judhaima) what are you?
They answered ‘we are muslims, we believed in Muhammad (PBUH) and we built the mosques in our yards and called made the azaan (call to prayer) in them’ Khalid asked ‘then why are you armed with weapons?’ they answered ‘There’s enmity between us and one of the arab tribes, and we were afraid you were them so we armed ourselves’ khalid said ‘Put down your weapons and surrender yourselves’ they surrendered themselves and khalid gave a prisoner to every one of his army men. When day break approached, khalid called out ‘whoever has a prisoner with him let him get ready and kill his prisoner’. Bani Salim killed the prisoners they had but the ansaar and muhajireen (helpers and immigrants) refused and set free their prisoners. When the news reached the prophet (PBUH) , he lifted his hands up to the sky and said ‘O Allah! I am free from what Khalid has done.’”

    Third Hadith:
    Kanzul Ummal Vol.13 page 222 Hadith #36674
    Narrated a bin al-akwa’:
“When khalid bin walid returned to the prophet (PBUH) after what he did with the bani Judhaima, he was critized by Abdulrahman ibn Auf; he said ‘Oh Khalid, you took upon yourself the tradition of Jahiliyah (customs practiced in the era of ignorance before islam) and you killed them out of revenge for your uncle al-fakih, may Allah fight you’ Umar ibn al-khattab also assisted Abdulrahman in this matter.
Khalid: ‘I only killed them for killing your father’
Abdulrahman: ‘you lie, by Allah I killed the killer of my father with my own hands, and Uthman ibn Affan is my witness’ He turned to Uthman and said ‘I ask you by Allah, do you know that I killed the killer of my father’
    Uthman: ‘By Allah yes’
Abdulrahman said Woe to you oh Khalid, even if I didn’t kill my father’s killer, do you then kill Muslims for what they did to my father in the era of ignorance?’
Khalid:’And who informed you they were muslims?’
Abdulrahman: ‘everyone from your contingent are explaining that you found they built mosques and testified their islam and you lifted the sword upon them.
Khalid: ‘An order from the prophet (PBUH) has reached me that I should kill them so I followed his order’
Abdulrahman: ‘you lie against the messenger of Allah’. Abdulrahman turned against Khalid, and the messenger of Allah (PBUH) turned away from khalid and became angered with him”

    Fourth Hadith:
    ————–
Al-mustadrak :: remembering the merits of Ammar bin Yair (ra) Vol.13 page 133 (online version)
    Narrated al-ashtar:
“I heard khalid bn al-walid say; The messenger of Allah (PBUH) sent me with a contingent and Ammar bin Yasir was with me. We encountered and killed a people, among them were a muslim family. Ammar said to me ‘these are people who testified to Allah’s oneness’, but I didn’t pay attention to him and did with them as the others (killed them) and Ammar persisted in promising me that he will inform the messenger about what I did.
    —————————————————————————–

few more historical issues about your so called “Saif-ullah: sword of Allah”
    - The Sword of Allah (Saif-Allah) was only one and that was declared in Uhud. Saif-Allah is Laqab for Hazrat Ali (A.S): and you have not even mentioned name of islam’s & Prophet’s (PBUH) best companion in your all these Audio recordings, this makes your all of the work until now questionable, that you have one sided view (your view)

    - He (Khalid bin waleed) murdered Maalik bin Navera, slashed the Quran into two, raped Maalik bin Naver’s wife after he had professed Islam, even after the shahdat of Rasool Allah.

    - He never lost a battle because he would take a fully equipped and trained army against ill equipped villagers. He never lost because it was like a giant battling a child. His army was trained while his opponents were just villagers who didn’t want to pay taxes anymore. The battles were basically slaughters. That’s why he never lost anything. (keeping in mind, as it is been said, he (Khaild bin waleed) fled from the battle of Hunain)

Maybe you need to read again the history when this so called ‘Sword of Allah’ was the leader of an army and they came running back instead of fighting and attaining martyrdom. And when they came back to Medina people greeted them with the words of “O fugitives! Why did you run away from jihad?” and by throwing dust on their heads and faces and after this the members of the army had confined themselves to their houses and if they came out they were pointed at and said “He is one of those person who ran away from jihad” (References: Seerah i Ibn Hisham vol II pp 382 and Seerah i Halabi vol II p79)

    - He (Khalid bin waleed) never lead any (ANY) battle from the front, always hid himself in the qalb-e-lashkar, the safest part.
Qalb-e-lashkar (The center of the formation). supported by massed infantry; covered from all sides is called safest part of battle formation.

    - Khalid bin Waleed being one of the oppressors and the attackers which were involved in the tragedy of Bibi Fatima [sa]

    - Khalid bin waleed intially used his so called saif-allah against Muslims, at that time saif of Ali (AS) was defending Islam. The saif Khalid then remained in its sheath till the departure of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and he did not bare it in any ghazwa or siria. After the Holy Prophet (PBUH) Khalid bin waleed again bared his saif against Muslims. How can Holy Prophet (PBUH) can name such guy Saifullah Who is accusing Allah and His Prophet…?

    ————————

There are plenty of things to say and write but I think this is more than enough to make you think before writing again… its a big responsibility when you want to write publicly… better understand that… hope you’ll do your knowledgeable research before writing next time. or else leave this “writing” idea and do something where you dont infect others…

Allah bless us with the light of knowledge, Aameen
