Story of NRO

By Tazeen • Oct 27th, 2009 • Category: Features • 6 Comments

In the light of the Supreme Court judgment against the Nov 3, 2007 state of emergency imposed by Pervez Musharraf, the NRO did not exist between Feb 4, 2008, when it passed its first life of 120 days, and July 31, 2009, when the ruling was handed down.

The NRO thus remained a valid piece of law from Oct 5, 2007, when it was promulgated as part of a deal with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), just hours before the presidential election on the following day to re-elect Musharraf, to Feb 4, 2008. The benefits derived on the force of the NRO between Oct 5 and Feb 4 were valid while those which were availed of between Feb 4, 2008 and July 31, 2009 were void.  Under the apex court’s verdict, the NRO became alive and a valid law again on July 31 for 120 days like other pending ordinances. The benefits that will be derived under this law till Nov 28 will be valid.

The prime beneficiaries of the NRO like President Asif Ali Zardari and a number of PPP leaders, who were now occupying high government offices, including the federal cabinet, took advantage of this law when it had actually died, having expired after its 120-day mandatory life. To give legal cover to these NRO beneficiaries, the official said, the law had to be made effective from backdate otherwise there was no point in laying it before parliament and attempting to secure its approval.

  1. It is a story of princess of heart land who lost her way in thick jungle of solecism. She was incompetent to tackle the crisis created by her mistakes as she had forgotten the real teaching of her brave father whose name was her real source of power. While roaming in dark jungle of corruption she met uniform prince who after judging her weakness offered him his love, friendship and partnership to share her sorrows and dispossession for power. As she was craving for power seat so they both developed a bond of Non Return Obsessions(NRO) to support each other for their monarchical desires.
So when they come out of this jungle into reality they found that people were angry on both of them and didn’t want to see both of them to be their saviors.
The fate of that prince was also written on wall so when he found that company of princess would have further created problem for him so he discarded this NRO and gave a poisonous apple to princess and searched for his other obsessions,But his dream of power grabbing couldnt become reality and he had to leave his desire and his country in search of his lost fixation.

  2. as far as NRO is concerned, so its not only President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP who took advantage from this Black-Law*, their is an enormous number of other politicians like ALTAF HUSSAIN, NAWAZ SHARIF and many of their colleagues, partners have got rid from trails and criminal cases, proceding this what they call it BLACK-LAW..
so by the way who is ALTAF HUSSAIN(extremist/criminal) suggesting Zardaarii to withdraw in the favour of democracy !!

  3. There is nothing to fight on name and position of such people .. when we talk about corruption they all stand in the same line!!

  4. This is not necessary that the beneferies of NRO would have to resign because this is a lost for our motherland because it will take a long time to appoint new person on the office of the beneferies of NRO.However the political leaders are concerned they will be punished with the huge amount of fine. And other punishments harmful to theirselves not to our country.COMMENT FROM A STUDENT OF UOS.MAK

  5. Any body involve should be penalize with justice by the way Altaf Hussain and companions may have charge of criminal act and that was too wrongly poised by the government of that time (nawaz sharif and Benazir) but no case of corruption on them however, if there are such cases found they all should face and the law and respect the the cerdict of supereme court.
Because nation could survive with starvation and inflation but never with injustice

  6. I saw news on different channels Detail judgement about NRO last day….When i think about past……i see that most of pakistani peopls are currupt either they are from public at large or from government..they are all in one line….personally i fight with one person but i cant fight with an organization..there many organizations in Pakistan like MQM….I am very sad, the money is not circulating in our peoples…Rich persons on one side and Poor persons on either side..rich persons more rich day by day and poor is more poor…Is this justice? Is it Islamic Country where peopls are all equal….Plz God always save our Pakistan…Aamen
