But we have to see reason, why IA siad Boot Family or Fed on Taxes. We civilians have to accept this truth that our Army is just eating whole country. We always puts blames on Politicians but its also truth that Politicians were never set free to make policies freely. There was always gun on their back by Generals that do this n that. In last 8 years these Army officers got exremely exposed infront of civilans and in result they lost real respects from society. Even people hates those who favors them. Its reaction of our Majority.

I do not agree with the opinion - "Poors wil remain poor" or "so don't pitty poors" etc. It is rather selfish an heartless to entertain such outlandish ieas. I also tend to think that people with such ideas are trying to escape and forget some part or parts of their personal histories. I don't think that there's any need to do that, after all no one chooses to be born in poverty or wealth anf hence he neither has to be ashambed f his poverty nor any particular reason for bein bornin realtive wealth. Anything that one can do is try to better the situation.I got to go....be back!

Mr. Mohammed Khan, General Musharaf became the President of Pakistan unlawfully. You would agree with this unless from a boot family.

Remember me, “Poors will remain poors”, unless they will not try to change themselves. Most of the poor people have never tried to achieve any skill, they are lazy or they are having a big family.—Aashique of Musharraf

Aashique of Musharraf, that is your opinion. My opinion is that you were fed on public tax money. So respect the poor and give them the due credit.

At least don't blame Musharraf on Poverty. I have seen people in America, Europe, Sadi Arabia, UAE etc begging on the roads. These are so-called richest countries of the world.

I think the best blame must go to the people themselves. If they act upon family planning, they might not living in poverty.

Pakistan's biggest problem is population explosion if the new govt. do nothing for next 5 years and just control population growth of Pakistan only, we would be among developed nations of the world after 5 years

And by the way - Mr. Shahid Javed Burki has been supportive of the economic progress the country has been making during Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz's tenure. If you care, go and retrive some of his commentaries and you will see. Of course, it was not a perfect economic management but it certainly was better managed than likes of Sartaj Aziz during PML (N).

Adeela - Thanks for all the info. I, for one, am pleased to note the kind of enthusiasm we the ordinary mortals have been provoked into. It is great and it is encoraging. Again I, being infested with chronic optimism, feel that finally Good Times are there. It is the people who make or break a nation, after all it is us who decide and elect those from among us to run a government.

Now, just short one. While it is true that Mr. Burki was, at the World Bank, in charge of Latin American division, however in 1994 the Mexican economic crisis in Mexico or the Mexican peso crisis, which also triggered a week of intense currency crisis took more than good Mr. Burki's expertise to stabilize. Bill Clinton (the then US President), had to grant a "paltry" amount of $50 Billion to Mexico. Which did the job. You know what with that kinda support. Believe me you would have done just as well!

The Musharraf strategy for the economy is comparable to using ointment to deal with a toothache; it may psychologically make one feel better but in no way deals with underlying problem making the inevitable pain to re-surface at a later time. Musharraf has managed to win the hearts of the West as he has opened the economy to them and rescheduled the debt which 8 years ago was on the verge of being defaulted. Domestically only a handful of people have benefited from the wealth the economy has generated who could be considered Musharraf's support base. However, many of those who live in Pakistan have not been fooled by Musharraf's polices and for them the recent state of emergency symbolises the beginning of the end of Musharraf. So desperate is Musharraf that he recently awarded his core generals plots of land ensuring they do not desert him. Pakistani economists continue to argue that free market has brought much success to Pakistan. However, most of Pakistan's economic policies are short term, political and not sustainable for the well-being of the nation. Hence, though the economy may be growing, it remains dysfunctional and unable to cater for its own citizens. Thus, the economy needs a complete overhaul not mere cosmetic surgery. As Shahid Javed Burki, former vice president of World Bank who was in charge of the bank's Latin American division when Mexico was hit by a financial crisis in 1994, put it, "Pakistan is facing symptoms that preceded the Mexican financial crisis more than 10 years ago." He points out that the nation's current account deficit, excessive speculative business activity and weak banking system is all heading in only one direction.
