State of Denial
By Ali Yar Khan • Sep 28th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 3 CommentsAs our president once again leave Pakistan to come back again, people of the country, millions over millions of them look gloomily and sulkily at these luxurious visits and the glossy lifestyles and then at the killer Ramadan, in which they lost life and dignity while fighting over sugar and flour and then hopelessly at the approaching Eid, when there children won’t have anything to wear or to eat.
Though Eid doesn’t offer any deep and long standing happiness for the masses, yet people are desperate to enjoy this fleeting happiness. They want to grab and then revel in ever moment, as sure in the movements of the tide, as soon as happiness washes over them the gravitational pull of happenings in the country will drag it from them.
Sugar cartels forced government to kowtow and despite of the Shahbaz Sharif’s efforts and the orders from the Lahore High Court, sugar is still being sold at the expensive pricing and still the hoarders and profiteers are having their field day. How could that be resolved when most of the sugar mill owners are sitting in the parliament. When ministers like Manzoor Wattoo are themselves defending the sugar and flour cartels, how could the crisis be over?
Government is aimless and in a state of denial. They are beating the drums that they have turned Pakistan into paradise and when somebody criticize them, they immediately pull out the sympathy card and rattle the names of their dead leaders.
So much for the democracy.
