Something is rotten in the Aiwan-e-Sadar

By Salman Mugsi • Jun 17th, 2010 • Category: Politics • 10 Comments

Pardon my saying but the truth is that still I need to pinch myself to believe that we have Mr. Asif Ali Zardari as our President. Not to say that I have got some personal vendetta with the man, far from it. I never ever have met him, nor I have ever witnessed him doing any illegal act.

It’s just because of his Swiss cases, commission and kickbacks in submarine cases and the riddle that how he managed to amassed so much wealth out of nowhere in such a short period without any plausible reason?

I seriously believe that Mr. Zardari is not a leader and is an accident. He has provided the country no vision and no road map for the near and far future. Zardari’s own statements and declarations made in public gatherings are proof of this glaring gap in our running history and we are very unfortunate indeed.

Can you overlook his tainted past and the stigma and baggage he carries? How could you, sir? How could we forget those mental illness certificates, and now he is our president?

Well I am ready to accept him as my leader if he comes out clear with the Swiss Cases and denies those medical certificates.

  1. Salman, you are a traitor, and you should be lynched.

  2. Salman Mugsi, “Well I am ready to accept him as my leader if…”….. No, Mr Mugsi, no you never will - and frankly you don’t need to - like President Zardari doesn’t need your acceptance. Remember, he has been elected by the required majority of the elected representatives of the people of Pakistan and he will remain so to the day when our representatives impeach him by 2/3 majority - constitutionally, only impeachment can remove him from the presidency! So is the constitutional reality - I am so sure you being an old fan of all things ‘Constitutional’, would respect the ‘Constitution of Pakistan’ if not its President. And by the way, the same constitution provides him complete immunity from even judicial proceedings - let alone ridicules by every ‘Sajha & Majha’ of the land.

  3. The cruelty is that some people have tried to implicate the good name of Zardari to the tragic slaying of former two time Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto. Just imagine how gut-wrenching and painful would that be for the president and his acolytes, who are carrying on the legacy of the Benazir Bhutto? But even then the patience of president is exemplary.

He has sustained and undergone through all these media trial and the conspiracies from other pillars and not-so-pillars of state and has combated the theatrics of non-state actors. He is thorn in the heart for the enemies of democracy and Pakistan and he is the balm for the democracy and the people who cherish it.

  4. @ Umer, Aftab & Shehla,

Shame on you all, how could you all be so naive. Give me one good reason to accept Zardari as leader of PPP or president of Pakistan.

Zardari and his cronies are breaking all the records of corruption and nepotism. Wake up before it’s too late.

  5. I do not know about the iq level of Mr. Mugsi, but sure he is an Awami journalist. Only yesterday, when I was purchasing the fruit from fruit seller, he expressed the same ideas and logics for maligning and condemning Mr. President.

For 14 years I am hearing Asif Zardari has done this crime, Asif Zardari has done that crime, nothing proved. Since Mr. Mugsi is “Awami” journalist he must know a man is honorable citizen unless proved guilty. He even does not read newspaper, Babar Awan has categorically stated before the Supreme Court that there never is, there never was any case against Asif Zardari in Swiss Courts, and the 60 million dollars purported to be in the account of Asif Zardari is not his account. Case dismissed in limine for me (Supreme Court has yet to decide on this issue) however this is for information.

  6. @Pure Paki

I wish you read my comments with a bit of attention - the reason is right there. Zardari is holding the positions what he is holding for one simple but great reason that his party accepts him as it’s co-chairman and the country has through the both the houses of parliament elected him as president. If we do believe and respect the democratic norms and our constitution as we like to pretend then - Zardari is the man - President of our Republic. You get my point Mr Paki (a pure one!)

  7. Unfortunately Zardari belongs to the tribal way of life & leads Zardari Tribe. In tribal life the only revenge is to kill ones opponent. Zardari belongs to that school of thought. But where he seems to be knocked out is competing with his political opponents mainly PML-N which is being headed by Nawaz & Shahbaz Sharif, much more senior & experienced players than Zardari in the game of politics being played in Pakistan since 1947. As concerns the wealth both Zardari & Sharif Family stand in the billionaire class & can compete one another at any level.

  8. @ Aftab

    Please don’t go postal on me :) :) :)

I read your comments with full attention but still I cannot fathom that people like you will accept him as president. Everyone is aware of Zaradri’s great track record before coming into power and most people were disappointed to see Zardari becoming president. I was hoping that Zardari is a changed person and may surprise everyone but it was only a wishful thinking.

  9. @ “Pure Paki”!

No - I am not and don’t have any reason to - was just trying to make a point assuming that we all aspire ‘democracy’ and wish ‘rule of law’ - don’t we all? Anticipating an affirmative answer - then let’s wait and see if our elected reps. can gauge our sentiments about the one, the other or them all who seem to think their rule (misrule) is a never ending party. Someone democratically sent in must be democratically kicked out that’s what democracy is all about and this is the only course there is ‘under the law’. This is what will make Zardari a “changed person” and us a changed people - a people who would make decisions based on actual evidence and not on perversion of the truth—- and by God these Zardaris and Sharifs and the rest of that creed left enough ‘evidence’ of their mischieves and it’s all there in public domain - so “wishful thinking” next time around.
