Shun Petrol in Governemnt Institutions
By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Jun 13th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesAs the imported bill of oil has devastated our economy, and there the rising oil prices in the world market are taking their worst toll, there is a dire and inevitable need on the part of government to take some drastic measures to address this alarming issue, lest its too late.
Though our premier Yousuf Raza Gillani and the co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party have begged cheaper oil from our long standing benefactor Saudi Arabia, its the need of hour that we also as a nation do something noble and worthwhile to address this issue, and until and unless we don’t make a collective effort, there is no chance that we could overcome this huge blow to our daily lives.
The common people of Pakistan have already shifted to the CNG due to the un-affordability of the prices of petrol and diesel. Their usage of vehicles have become not so frequent, and that is bound to have some nice effects on our environment, about which nobody ever thinks.
The biggest step government could take to address this issue is by converting all the government vehicles to CNG. Right now almost all the government vehicles are on either petrol or on diesel, and we all know that how mercilessly the government vehicles are used. Secondly, government should ban the facility of giving free petrol monthly to the officers of many pubic sector organizations, and instead it should give them some sort of allowance.
Only these two steps would save a great deal of money to the national exchequer, and the accrued relief would be tangible instantly.
