Should Pakistanis Celebrate Valentine’s Day? Why Not?

By Amna Gilani • Feb 14th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 18 Comments

Valentine’s Day has come and like every year for the past some years, debate is going on in the country whether to celebrate Valentine’s Day or not. With so little to rejoice and with so little to smile about, why not celebrate one more day? All that crap about Valentine being a Muslim’s enemy or some other sexual stories attached to the occasion and other rumor mongering, why not just  reiterate love to each other?

Yes we should love and respect each other 365*24*7, but we need to reiterate our love to each other every now and then, so why waste Valentine’s Day. And we must shed this hypocrisy. When we enjoy Western music, meals, dresses, movies, culture and their technologies, then why not Valentine’s Day?

We should customize and tailor such days to our culture. Yes, we must not copy it as such  and we cannot do it. Booze, illicit sex, rendezvous and other Western stereotypes on such occasions are not necessary to enjoy and celebrate.

So on this Valentine, just loosen up, enjoy the life, its too short and too expensive to waste in gloom and doom.

TPS is my Valentina ???

Who is Your’s?

  1. ITS YOU MY DEAR

  2. bogus article once again by same bogus writer, you should write these types in your own diary so that you can show them to your children if you wish to get some.

  3. i hope u under stand.

  4. This is the problem with Pakistan. People don’t learn Islam or follow it but claim to be Muslims after imitating the kaffirs.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that “anyone who imitates a people is one of them”. “Anyone who imitates a people will be resurrected with them (as one of them)”.

Allah says in the Qur’an to “forbid evil” and “enjoin good”.

By writing such articles you are doing exactly opposite of what Allah commanded. Just because pakistanis commit sins now doesn’t mean they can add one more sin (valentine’s day) to their list. On a non religious point, it is a loss of self respect & dignity to copy other people’s ways.

Read the Islamic ruling on Valentine’s Day at the link below.

  5. Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islâm), enjoining Al-Ma’rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islâm has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful. (Aali Imran 3:104)

You [true believers in Islâmic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW and his Sunnah (legal ways, etc.)] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma’rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islâm has forbidden), and you believe in Allâh. And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fâsiqûn (disobedient to Allâh - and rebellious against Allâh’s Command). (Aali Imran 3:110)

They believe in Allâh and the Last Day; they enjoin Al-Ma’rûf (Islâmic Monotheism, and following Prophet Muhammad SAW) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and opposing Prophet Muhammad SAW); and they hasten in (all) good works; and they are among the righteous. (Aali Imran 3:114)

The believers, men and women, are Auliyâ’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma’rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islâm has forbidden); they perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât) and give the Zakât, and obey Allâh and His Messenger. Allâh will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise. (At-Tawbah 9:71)

The hypocrites, men and women, are from one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief and polytheism of all kinds and all that Islâm has forbidden), and forbid (people) from Al-Ma’rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do), and they close their hands [from giving (spending in Allâh's Cause) alms, etc.]. They have forgotten Allâh, so He has forgotten them. Verily, the hypocrites are the Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh). (At-Tawbah 9:67)

  6. Islam Islam Islam….. a Jihadi evil cult

Save this paki nation from jihad

  7. Amna, you are spot on. well said. Keep it up.

    regards

  8. One day’s affection does not compensate for an year long negligence. It’s just another remnant of today’s age: fast, without sparing any thought or time for anyone. So why follow something so crude that confines love to just one day. If you keep on with this trend, you will end up celebrating halloween, all souls day, etc etc.

Lets celebrate VALENTINE’S DAY but i will preserve MY CULTURE to the best of my ability.

    @@@@@@@@@@@

Are your culture so WEAK that celebrating V-DAY( or letting others celebrate it ) will destroy it???????????????????

  10. Luckily we belong to such culture where we are completely blessed by love of our love ones in the form of close relatives and good friends, around us round the clock. To celebrate such a day is the requirement of those cultures and systems who ignore their love ones at the time of happiness or sorrows and start chasing imaginary figures as symbol of love. This day might remind them of their ceased relationship and they can satisfy their conscience by sending them a little token .So in stead of celebrating this day as said by Faroha “confine love for just one day” we should enjoy the passsions of love ones, regardless of any specific day but should be based on circumstances.Help your needy and sick love ones living close to you either with smile or care and your whole year will be blessed with real happiness.

  11. Very well said Nazia. i agree with you 100%.

But if someone celebrates V-DAY let him do it.

Individual freedom needs to be RESPECTED!

  12. It’s all about “Identity” if you don’t want to “symbolize” yourself it means you have no “credibility”

Just small example “we feel proud celebrating chritian events and their “known” days….. why they don’t celebrate “our” days ??????”

  13. share the sorrows and happiness with ur fellow beings but not on the invitation of multinational brand promotion. but on the sake of ur happiness and freedom.

  14. It is not fair to celebrate one specific day for Love.Beloved has to wait for one Valentine’s day throughout the whole year, just to hear ,”Be my Valentine”.Expression of love should be throught the whole year.Love has no limits,no boundries & no day of celebration.

  15. You are a sick woman. You need to get married so that you could cool yourself down. You know what I mean. Nymphomania if not satisfied produces the likes of you.

  16. JO log valentine or es personal freedom ki baat krtay hain main en say pochta hon k tumhari behno ko jab koi date marta hay YA en k sath koi valentine mnata hy to jub ku ghusa krtay ho,personal freedom main tou yah bhi ata hay k tumhari behnain apnay friends k sath jab chahein jahan chahain ghomain, phirain or jo chahian karain ……laykin apni behno k freedom pay tou tum lrkay freedom aply nahi honay do gay, yah thinking apnay sir main hi rakho tou bahtar, tum jaysay bayghayrat logon nay hi mulkon or cultures ko tabah keya hay ………..or yah incredible indian tujhay jo culture chahiay apnay mulk main ja kr enjoy kr,yahan akar websites pay gandagi na phayla…okay
