Shoe Treatment of Bush
By Anwar Jalal • Dec 16th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesIraqi journalist throwing shoes at Bush in Baghdad is really unusual and great news in the sense that the most powerful president of the time was intended to be publicly humiliated by that act. This news has been received with much enthusiasm and joy particularly by the common muslims all over the muslim world mainly due to their hatred for Bush .
However it has other aspect too that shows a upbeat characteristic of western democratic culture which was demonstrated by Bush on that occasion. Instead of showing any irritation he took it lightly and just joked about it and pleasantly remarked “ That was a size 10 shoe he threw at me “ Can some one envisage throwing shoe on any head of state or government in some muslim or undemocratic country? What would be the reaction of that leader? And what kind of punishment would be inflicted upon such person?
All detestation and hatred for Bush however one should also appreciate the great quality of western democratic culture which train their leaders to be cool, self-discipline, agreeable and unwearied in worst kind of situation…Is not there a lesson particular for Muslim leaders in this otherwise gripping event of shoe throwing at the most powerful president of the world and his amusing reaction to it ?.May our leaders develop qualities of such personal patience and remaining normal in such situation?
