Shahbaz Sharif Pleads with Taliban

By Rohail Butt • Mar 15th, 2010 • Category: Politics • 3 Comments

If you beg from your enemy for mercy and if the enemy is like Taliban terrorists then it only means that they would be more bolder to carry out there evil attacks.

And why  only Punjab?

Yes, Shahbaz Sharif is the chief minister of Punjab, but his party claims to be the national party and his brother is vying for the premier of this country, and PML-N cannot ignore other provinces, let alone asking for mercy from Taliban just for the Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said Sunday that Pakistan Muslim League-N had refused to accept the external dictation and stood strong before Musharraf.  “If this is the stance of Taliban, then they should not carry out terrorism in Punjab,” Shahbaz said this while speaking at Mufti Muhammad Hussain Naeemi seminar in Jamia Naeemia Garhishah.

  1. The Taliban seem to have planned to bring Punjab on its knees. They have also given more threats to this province. What can you really expect from CM? Punjabz government was a role model and now their plans are going down the drain. Its sad. These terrorists must be hanged as a model for every1. They are playing in the hands of the enemy and they don’t realize it.

  2. I have read this statement in today’s newspaper too but I am still not sure of its credential or how well this statement is being quoted. From my standpoint there is no similarity between the objectives of Taliban and Pakistani people, we are poles apart in terms of ideology or any manifestation of ideology!
Taliban have political ambitions and they distort Islam for these motives, the want a tyrannical rule as per their understanding Islam, which leave no room for dialogue, compassion and harmony. The neither represent Islam nor Pakistan.

  3. The PML-N’s support to right wing of extremists is an open secret. Despite concealing and negating this face PML-N was exposed time and again. Thus it is not surprising if the party has now come clear on its stance vis-à-vis the militant outfits. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has finally exposed the real face of his party by giving an inane statement in a blatant show of provincialism. Taking a narrow provincialist stance while totally ignoring the national crisis, Shahbaz Sharif pleaded with the Taliban to spare Punjab from its terrorist attacks. He said that since the Taliban opposed foreign dictation and were pursuing the policy of terrorism to fight against a foreign invasion and the PML-N too opposed General Musharraf’s policies, Punjab ruled by the PML-N should be spared terrorist attacks. Mr Sharif said, “Musharraf planned a bloodbath of innocent Muslims at the behest of others only to prolong his rule, but we in the PML-N opposed his policies and rejected dictation from abroad.” The absurdity of these comments cannot be overstated. Not only is this statement a foolish one, it is a highly insensitive one. Has Mr Sharif forgotten that Punjab is only one province of the country and there are three other provinces Sindh, Balochistan and the NWFP?
