SCBA President Qazi Anwar Lacks the Charisma
By Tazeen • Jan 21st, 2010 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesUnlike his predecessors, the current Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Qazi Muhammad Anwar hasn’t got the magentism and the aura of someone who could ignite a nation wide upheavel for any cause. Aitzaz Ahsan and Ali Ahmed Kurd, the former SCBA presidents led a successful lawyers movement and became a national figure, but very few know about Qazi Anwar as the president of supreme court bar, though he has been there for sometime now.
He cannot make a good speech and he cannot be convincing. He has also miserably failed to keep all the disparate factions of lawyers together and in the post restored judiciary era, there are clear differences between the judges and the lawyers. Lawyers want to be recognized and judiciary wants to be aloof. Also there are differences on the issues of adhoc judges and the way judiciary has acted so far.
But that aside, SCBA still stands shoulder by shoulder with the judges and have pledged to support judges if government clashes with them. But the question is that has Qazi Anwar that mettle and leadership qualities in him to run a repeat show of lawyers movement if it comes to that, which is very highly likely?
Kurd has sidelined himself and Aitzaz has become member of CEC of PPP, so either lawyers have to find a new dynamic leader or they are doomed to a pathetic failure. By the way Rasheed Rizvi of Karachi Bar is a good candidate for replacement of Qazi Anwar.
