Saleem Safi versus Hamid MirBy Maria Sultan • Oct 27th, 2011 • Category: Politics • 9 Comments
The internal politics of the private TV channels is a strange story in itself. The most viewed channel GEO hosts some most popular journalists and the cheap battles and jealousy stories among these anchors and journalists are getting new hype because everyone wants to become number 1.
Saleem Safi and Hamid Mir have gained a new height of popularity through their talkshows. Saleem Safi has declared himself the top political analyst of the Afghan affairs, whereas Hamid Mir touts himself as the ultimate wisdom on all national and international issues. Both host different programs from the same channel and both are competing with other to become the number one.
One of the favorite boasting claim of Hamid Mir is that he has interviewed many Afghan leaders and the Al Qaeda leaders including late OBL. Hamid Mir believes himself to be the leading Afghan specialist, whereas Saleem Safi carries out his every program on Afghan issues and hence proclaims himself to be the all-in-all Afghan guru.
It was quite a jealousy oriented shock for Hamid Mir, when Saleem Safi interviewed Afghan president Hamid Karzai and that interview made international news because Hamid Karzai had said pro-Pakistan words in that. Hamid Mir was furious and he in his column said that Hamid Karzai was unreliable and puppet of India and America and is not friend of Pakistan and was pretending to be pro-Pakistani just because he wanted to win next election. Hamid Mir in his anger also quoted some controversial remarks about Pushtoons from the book of Lucy Edwards Morgan.
Then Saleem Safi’s retaliatory article got published and he condemned those words by Hamid Mir. Hamid Mir replied again in touch words and defended his earlier column and the fight goes on. Funnily Altaf Hussain of MQM has also chipped in and siding with the Saleem Safi, because MQM doesn’t like Hamid Mir much as Hamid Mir was the one who produced the JIT of MQM target killer Ajmal Pahari and was tough on the murder of GEO reporter by MQM. Also by showing sympathy to Saleem Altaf Hussain tried to console with the Pushtoons.
Anyway, the most funny thing is that Hamid Karzai has now disowned his words published by Saleem Safi.
