Running From Taliban
By Mohsin Sehgal • May 2nd, 2009 • Category: Politics • 2 CommentsThe way in which the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation 2009 was rushed through the National Assembly on April 13, and the way now our political class is rising up to the threat posed by the Taliban is the manifest of how much dearth of vision, direction and leadership exist in the country.
Taliban have done it before in Afghanistan and now they are trying to do it in the Pakistan. They conquered the Afghanistan in the peacemeal, while the world watched and now they are repeating this strategy with astounding success in the northern regions of Pakistan, while government gloats in its slumber. In a clear gesture of surrender, Swat was literally handed over to the Taliban and then elated in their newly found power, Taliban advanced towards Buner. People of Buner first tried to combat the Taliban and thought that the government would come to their rescue, but nobody came and Taliban took over the area with ease, also with the help of local Taliban.
Once again the ANP government pleaded to Maulana Sufi Muhammad, the cleric of Swat and he ordered Taliban to return from Buner but to keep vigil from the mountains. Now security forces cannot really go to the Buner, because Taliban don’t approve of it. So after Swat, Buner is also under their writ. Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has rejected the prevalent and perhaps true notion that the peace deal through Sufi Mohammad amounted to a giving any “concession” to the armed Islamists.
Then why Taliban are allowed to keep their arms and vigil in the area? Why not their FM radio is shut down? Why they are making their adventures in Shangla, Chitral and even up to Swabi?

Imran Khan is notorious for instigating violence carried out by his infamous party’s goons on 12th May 2007, in Karachi. Numerous innocent civilians were killed in this violence.
