Riyadh Cricket Association to host Interschool Cricket Tournament

Riyadh Cricket Association (aka: RCA) as the pioneer of the interschool Cricket tournament in Saudi Arabia organized a meeting with  the Principals of a number of Schools this past weekend in Ritz Carlton Hotel in Riyadh. This time around the meeting was a great success as RCA was able to expand its contacts from just 6 schools in the past to 33 schools in this meeting. This list also included few noted Arabic International Schools like Ibn-e-Khaldun International School and Kingdom International School.

Among the attendees were the Principals and/or representatives from the following Schools: Mr. Yousuf Noor Anwar from Al-Momin International School, Mr. Meiraj Mohammad Khan from Delhi Public School, Dr. Ali Arif, from Ibn-e-Khaldun International School, Dr. Shaukat Pervez from Indian International School, Mr. Ibrahim from Jawahir Al-Riyadh International School, Mr. Patterson from Middle East International School, Mr. Mohammad Hanif from Modern International School, Mr. Sami Afridi from Pakistan International School  English Section, Mr. Mian Iqbal from Pakistan International School at Nasiriyah, Mr. Gopi Manon from Yasmin International School, and Dr. Awais from Manarat Ar Riyadh School.

The event was ably moderated by Mr. Nasir Abbasi – RCA General Secretary. The proceedings commenced with recitation of verses from Holy Quran by Mr. Malik Akbar – RCA and Inter School Committee member.

Mr. Nasir Abbasi presented a brief of 33 year history of RCA. Mr. Ejaz Sulaiman RCA Inter School Organizing Committee member was called upon to introduce the guests from RCA Executive committee. Mr. Nasir then asked Mr. Ahsan Raza Rizvi – RCA Interschool Coordinator – to present the RCA Tournament plan. Mr. Ahsan emphasized on the importance of interschool cricket in physical & mental development of students and presented comprehensive current and future plans of RCA.

This initiative from RCA was very much appreciated by the School Principals and their representatives present. All of them assured of their full support to this RCA Plan and thanked RCA for inviting their Schools and ensuring their participation in the forthcoming Inter-School Cricket Tourneys.

RCA Patron and spokesman for HRH Prince (Retd) Gen Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud – Mr. Mohammad Anwar Mohammad – thanked his Royal Highness for allowing his lands to be used to prepare grounds for this gentleman’s sport. He stressed that Interschool tournament is an important step towards development of Cricket at gross root levels. He assured of his full support for the success of this program of RCA.
President RCA and newly elected Chairman of Executive Committee of Saudi Cricket Center – Mr. Tariq Javed – expressed his complete satisfaction with the RCA mission to promote Cricket by including more and more Schools in its Interschool Cricket Tournaments. He appreciated the efforts of all RCA members and also assured them of his cooperation, help and assistance in realizing their aims and ambitions of promoting Cricket in Saudi Arabia.

RCA CEO Mr. Nadeem Baber thanked the participants and informed the attendees that this forthcoming tournament would be sponsored by Saudi Cricket Center – aka: SCC. “SCC will provide complete playing kits, balls, Cricket hats and prizes for all the matches”, Babar informed.

The other two members of the Interschool organizing committee Mr. Qaiser Mahmood and Mr. Rashid Mahmood also thanked the guest and assured them of their support.

RCA President Mr. Tariq Javed presented a memento shield to HRH Prince (Retd) Gen Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud for his continued support and services for Cricket in Saudi Arabia and for his valued patronage for RCA.  On his behalf, the memento shield was received by Mr. Mohammad Anwar Mohammad – RCA Patron and spokesman for HRH Prince (Retd) Gen Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.

The program concluded at a sporting note and was followed by a sumptuous dinner in Al-Arjoun Restaurant of Ritz Carlton Hotel.
