Rise Up for the Sake of Pakistan
By Tahir Hameed • Jan 3rd, 2010 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 14 CommentsIf oppression of rulers, the corruption of clerics, communal disharmony, religious intolerance, indiscipline, the lack of law and order, moral degeneration and unaccountability of those who commit crime or fraud is not checked, then the cosmetic makeovers that are so often made to win the trust of the citizens of a nation may not work.
It is a crying shame that the people who are in charge of governance are perhaps more pre-occupied by their lusts and desires. Spending time with mistresses in drunken revelry or on pleasure trips abroad, these men and women in uniform or out of it have forgotten God. They have been transformed into bloodsucking leeches and parasites. As most of them are uneducated feudal lords, it is naïve and stupid to expect anything worthwhile from them.
Some of them are paranoid, others suffer from obsessive compulsive disorders and other forms of mania. That the same people are being voted into power over and over again despite the fact that their past history in power was one of looting and plundering the national exchequer is strange.
If we the people and citizens of Pakistan don’t take appropriate action to voice concerns regarding their future, then they will perhaps continue to suffer more and more. There has to be law within the nation. There has to be a will to apprehend and punish those who are corrupt. We have to make a concerned effort to fight hypocrisy, oppression, poverty, crime and terrorism. It is time that we made efforts to rout out all those elements in power that have repeatedly caused damage to the nation and its people.
This is time for action to restore normalcy in this nation. It is a shame that we call ourselves Muslims when most of the things that we are in love with in this nation are not Islamic. Shops selling pornographic material and net cafés that promote lechery and lewdness operate without fear. You have private parties which last till the wee hours of the morning where men and women drink booze and commit adultery. We have teenagers indulging in smoking and drug addiction. You have brothels in every housing society catering to young and old, rich and poor. If this is the state of our society, then we are certainly headed towards disaster and destruction. Moral and societal degeneration is being protected under the banner of democracy. We have to differentiate between right and wrong. As Muslims it is our duty to eradicate social evils.
Taking and giving bribes has become a part and parcel of the society. Corruption comes easy to us. Whether it is back biting, lying or hypocrisy it has all become a part of our characters. We love to place our money in banks and feed on the interest paid to us. Therefore we really have to examine our characters and contemplate whether we are true Muslims or not.
Islam places a great deal of emphasis upon education and acquisition of knowledge but the sad fact remains that a very minute portion of the GDP is allocated towards education.
Islam also lays a lot of emphasis upon the payment of Zakat and the distribution of wealth. Had the Zakat been disbursed properly amongst the needy and provided there had been leaders who had been dedicated towards the progress and prosperity of the nation, poverty could have been alleviated.
Our future is in our hands. There are no Messiahs that will descend from the Heavens and change our fortunes. How long will Pakistan live on peanuts doled out by IMF or the Asian Development Bank? How long would we survive on foreign remittances? Why is Pakistan declared a terrorist state when it leads US war on terrorism? How long can we tolerate living lives in a country where the prices of electricity, gas, fuel and other utilities continue to be hiked? When will the unemployed get jobs? When will lower courts be free of corrupt lawyers?
These are just some of the many questions that come to mind.

Never….you are all doomed!
Looks like an article written by a Jamaatia.
May ALLAH (SWT) bless you because you nailed it through this article, however I must say that we cannot achieve our goal as long as our society is infested with buffoons like “moz”. These are the same people who cannot judge between right & wrong and prefer to live the life of ignominy.
Please keep up the good work
Good post Tahir! I wish everyone could think in a similar manner. The problem is that majority is how you have described it in your post. Rising up is not easy. We have just gotten used to it now.
A common man has so many ordinary other issues to resolve on a daily basis. We have poverty, hunger, families to feed. and than on top of that illiteracy is eating us from inside. With the state of affairs these politicians have created even literate people do things which they should not.
we need a radical change. some people to sacrifice. introduce tough laws with implementation. even for smaller crimes such as bribing the odd policeman for traffic signal violation! the tough law i mean is really tough. hang them!
think logically. if things do not change we will have the same politicians again and again and no one to bring a revolution. politicians will keep lying and fill their own pockets. what is the outcome of all this? if you lead a team of people who are prepared to rise up, how many follow you? and then do you have the power to fight against the corrupt?? can a common man enter into politics? very rarely…i wont say ‘no’ because there are some instances of common people within the mainstream politics doing wonders for the city and the country.
we keep writing and writing…we have all been writing for years…before internet it was also in newspapers..what has been happening?
@Aamir
Actually, Pakistan is infested with people you that are not letting it progress. Going to parties at 3am is not an issue, which is what author has emphasized mostly. Corruption and terrorism are important issues.
Tahir Hammed has painted an incredible picture of the present state of affairs that Pakistanis are faced with. It is all very tragic but please don’t forget that there is silver lining out there on the Horizon…. but our enemy is bent upon to snach it away from us.
Sorry to say that although we have identified our self that we are Pakistanis but have failed to identify that who is our enemy. When this is known, Pakistan will be free of any turmoil and anarchy—–When we realize that we the commoners, our self are our own enemy. We have developed an habit of bearing every infliction which comes our way but keep mum.
Yes we have to rise—- rise to the challenge of life. Rise up for our survival and our safety.
I bear repeating a song: “ I Dreamed a Dream “

I Dreamed a Dream-Lyrics
[Lyrics by Fantine who is left alone, unemployed and destitute]
I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
And they turn your dream to shame
He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came
And still I dream he’ll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I’m living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.
Jai Ho! Says
Never….you are all doomed!
Just see; how this man giggles. How joyous he feels?
A giggle of an arch enemy—. How joyous he feels; while wishing us an increase in our pains.
@MOZ
LOL, what makes you think that people like me are not letting Pakistan progress ?.
@8
I would ask the same question to you. Is talking to a girl late a night an issue or corruption? If you don’t give people freedom, then you only invite agitation and hatred. Some people always question Liaqat Ali Khan’s personal life that he drank alcohol and womanized alot, instead of judging his performance as a prime minister. The issues raised in this article other than corruption and mismanagement are not a hinderance towards progress.
Tahir Hameed: I belong to such School of Though who say LOUDLY If oppression of rulers is not stopped here-at then these rulers are inviting a Blood Bath Revolution as history of the globe proves the same.
In constant manner AZ has been delivering a clear cut message to Interior Sindh & Baluchs that whatever horrible hard time he & his corrupt Co-Jiyalays has been facing this is a last result of start talking to the Aghaz-e-Haqoq-e-Baluchistan simultaneously he is ready to take out the eyes of such element whoever is against such PPP’s initiative regarding Baluchistan. Moreover as per AZ & Zulfiqar Mirza addresses at Interior Sindh there are some UNSEEN FORCES which are compel to eject from Presidency & from other portfolios of Jiyalays in other words these Jiyalays are ready to DIE but not to bow down — Well as per their body language these are just full of emotional show with some of Unimpressive Artificial Acts with Crocodile Tears nothing else.
In all & all mine conclusion is: these are just Reactionary Movements which are being taken just right after the Short Order of NRO & before the Detailed Order of SC naturally therein AZ’s eligibility may also be CHALLENGED!
The treatment of Electronic Media & Judiciary Final Order both are against this Hardliner Jiyala namely Zardari – Yes: SC will decide on MERIT & Media is a voice of the Nation this is so simple which is not DIGESTABLE by this Stubborn Jiyala, hence this is an Obvious Sign of Ruling Elite of PPP’s HELPLESSNESS which is also showing that this Elite is not ready to Rectify their PAST-MISDEEDS rather they insist to repeat the same again over again or start a USELESS — BLAMING GAME.
Therefore, as this Blaming Game has been started by these Hardliner Jiyalays who Understand Comprehensively that they may not Criticize Openly to the JUDICIARY whose credibility Graph in the eyes of this poor & ignored nation is very high to even to say single word against them is to invite non-stop trouble — so that the only option is left to Blame Direct or Indirect manner to the Armed Forces & to their Sister Concerned e.g. ISI & MI as for the last 40 years these armed forces misdeeds & ulterior motives for power & wealth are equivalent to these Corrupt Politicians besides in the meanwhile at borders their achievements are nothing which are not presentable with golden words rather they earned too bad names to survive whether we start to mention from 1971 War at East Pakistan, Losing of Siachin Glacier Issue, Failed Adventurism at Kargill & above all Operation Rah-e-Nijat which has turned into Operation Rah-e-Khawari moreover they are also being called declared AMERICAN SLAVES as we may see their Complete Silence on AMERICAN DRONED ATTACKS on innocent homeland people in this so called imposed War against Terror above all whatever Musharraff has corrupted to these Armed Forces against billions of US $ open Aid to forces thereafter distribution among Army Generals this is not WASHABLE in so quick or an ease manner in a nut shell AZ & Co. badly needed a SCAPE GOAT & this has been revealed in form of Armed Forces plus ISI & MI.
Hence I may announce openly & loudly AZ & Co. does not have such policies which are dealt & settle down smoothly common man problems according to this poor & ignored nation. E.g.
Rooti = Bread = Jobs Providing — Totally Failed
Kapra = Cloth = Per Capita Income – As in Economic Indicator i.e. so poor even to mention the same
Makan = Home = Day Time Just unfulfilled Sweet Dream
On the contrary picture whatever this nation was maintaining already well before AZ & Co. came into power — the same is being tried to SNATCH by the English Speaking Ruling Elite on behalf of American Dictation you may name it I may type on my PC e.g. Petrol Price Hike, Non Availability of Atta Cheenee (Flour Sugar), Enhancement in Tariff Rates in Utility Bills & in Groceries & above all this is all time high time Recorded Corruption plus daily American War Against Terror Stories & their respective reactions in form of Bomb Blasts so that this is the Ruling English Speaking Ruling Elite who are so closed to Red White & Blue Countries or with IMF & World Bank & proofed unbearable Burdon on this poor & ignored nation.

Worst political leadership mostly originated from feudal back ground, corrupt bureaucracy and greedy army management are root causes of our failures in all side.
In our system all such forces have joined hands in all kinds of plundering plans and those who try to come into their ways are removed by force or by hook and crook.
Corruption from top is transferred into low positions but we people only catch little evils and spare all bigwigs who are actually driving such filthy games.First time in the history of Pakistan judiciary is giving us hope for something good is going on in highest offices of establishment.
Now it all depend on the working momentum and hard survival of judiciary against powerful mafia sitting in govt offices as it is taking responsibility of many other institutions. All institutions like parliament, interior ministry, health department etc are only playing the role of dumb and deaf person in public affairs and all are only chasing for their security and monetary issues.
