Rift Between President Zardari and Premier Gilani
By Salman Mugsi • Jan 1st, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 5 CommentsIf Yousuf Raza Gilani has any qualms about turning Brutus on his one-time mentor and benefactor, a rank senior, Asif Ali Zardari, he is not expressing it. But all is not well in the corridors of power in Islamabad, and as the news is leaking in the passing months, the puppet Prime Minister has started refusing dancing to the tunes played by the widow of his late leader and he has made it plain that he is displeased.
Asif Ali Zardari, the accidental president is not paying any attention. He is simply too brash or plain arrogant to take note of the growing unrest in his selected Prime Minister. Zardari falsely believes that as he has made Yousuf the premier and only he could do it, so Yousuf would not even squeal over the insults and neglect. Zardari knows that he has made him Prime Minister because he wanted a loyal side-kick to be ensconced in the top slot.
Zardari had before him many big and able names for the premiership, but he selected a dull and dumb man from the lot as to obviate the threat from that side. Zardari had installed key men in the top slots in the bureaucracy and in the party and in the provinces, and he is feeling himself a king. But he is so mistaken. History is repeating itself.
Bhutto preferred Ziaul Haq for the chief of army staff and felt safe, but Zia hanged him. Benazir trusted Farooq Leghari and Leghari dismissed her. Now Zardari has installed Gilani and feeling safe, but Gilani has started on the path which leads to the perishment of either one.
Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, is unhappy with numerous things. He has come to the brim now. He wants to rule now according to his own whims and wishes. He does’nt want to be dictated by the Zardari and his aides. It all started couple of months ago, when Gilani politely asked Zardari to remove his men sorrounding Gilani. Those include advisor to the interior Rehman Malik, Salman Farooqi, the principal secretary to the President, and Dr Qayyum Soomro, President’s special assistant. But Zardari sternly refused and asked Gilani to just enjoy the sun and keep rest to him.
No cabinet member gives any importance and even hell to the PM. Everything revolves around the presidency and the ministers, advisors and other bigwigs consider Gilani a rubberstamp, and that what he has been. But now it’s enough for the Pir of Multan. Now Prime Minister Gilani is in a defiant mood and wants to run the government as the real chief executive.
Another thing is that the protocol of the Prime Minister demands that only a premier holds press conferences jointly with the counterparts of the other countries. But whenever any PM of important country comes, Zardari bypasses Gilani and holds the press conference and leaves the PM of Zimbabwe, Kenya to Gilani. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s joint press conference with President Asif Ali Zardari during the former’s recent visit to Pakistan has really angered the Yousuf Gilani.
These all are pretexts and the real thing is that Gilani has now tasted the premiership and now he wants to rule without being told what to do.

well written , hope it is true and things lead to the good of the country
Its always a fight for power. they keep fighting amongst themselves and who suffers?
common man!
you have rightly pointed out that all is not well with in the high echelon of power set-up in the country. Relations were bound to be sour once the so-called puppet PM started to assert his authority a little bit. Seems he has not gone too far but this little assertiveness has bamboozled Zardari-the puppet master to an extent that he is considering alternate.
The alternate scenario doesn’t look cosy as it sounds by his rhetoric on the occasion of Benazir’s death anniversary which was broadcast live nationally and internationally. Zardari’s assertion that once he gets enough majority in the Senate, then he will bring about much needed constitutional amendment to reinforce the pivotal position of PM in Pakistani democracy. Once, this is achieved he is going to take over as the PM as some analysts have predicted.
Let us see, how his politicking turns-out to be in his benefit or is it going to create further instability, to pave the way for another decade of military rule in the country. Right now due to many national and international problems, the popular view in Pakistani society is to give him and his party some more time to bring about the necessary stability that Pakistan desperately desires.Once this honeymoon period is over and there are evident signs, than the very people will be in the forefront to demand his head. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
look a the position Pakistan is in
and then see the character of our political leaders
TUM LOG BARI BEIGHERAT QAUM HO. PEHLEY MUSHARRAF KEY PEECHEY PADEY THEY AB ZARDARI KEY PEECHEY AUR KAL NAWAZ SHARIF KEY PEECHEY PAR JAO GEY
