Results from District Khushab

The closest contest of the history of district Khushab witnessed whole night suspense as Returning Office remained busy in counting and re-counting of ballots. Sumera bagged 61067, Umar Aslam 60413 and Tanvir Sultan Awan Awan of independent Awami Group polled 39133 votes.
Irfan Gheba of PPP got 3372 votes. Malik Shakir Bashir Awan of PML (N) defeated Malik Ehsan Tiwana, independent, head of local Awami Group with a margin of 7455.
The hotly contested election gave Awan 66360 while Ehsan bagged 58905 votes. Shuja Baloch, independent, polled 29186 votes while Sultan Mehmood Wadhal got 6069 votes. In PP-39, independent Malik Javed Iqbal Awan defeated his six opponents by bagging 24207 votes.
Affiliated with Malik Umar Aslam panel, Awan defeated Faisal Aziz, 19538 of PML (Q), Raja Hassan Nawaz 16808, Mukhtar Awan of Awami Group, 14101, Iftikhar Awan PML (N) 5089, M. Javed of PPP 2105 and Sabtain Naqvi of MMA 2800 votes. Karam Ilahi Bandial, independent, attached with Umar Aslam group defeated another independent of Awami Group, Malik Hassan Nawaz Gunjial with margin of 2304 votes.
Break up of votes is; Bandial 26494, Gunjial 24190, Iqbal Utra of PML (Q) 11786, Ehsan Gunjial, 1767, Khaliq Dad of PML (N) 4237, Irfan Gheba of PPP 4112 and Ashfaq Awan of MMA 3749 votes. Independent Malik Asif Bha won from PP-41.
His nearest rivals were Ehsan Tiwana of Awami Group 16442, Umar Tasawwar Khan PML (N) 15176, Javed Randhawa 8257, Sultan Wadhal of PPP 4973 and Abdul Sattar Amar of MQM 199 votes. The only success of Awami Group in all six constituencies of the district was that of Malik Waris Kalloo who by bagging 42093 votes defeated independent Syed Zulqurnain Shah with a margin of 15822. PML (N) candidate Aziz Hussain Jara polled 16444 votes.
Kalloo’s score remained 42093 while Shah bagged 26271 votes. As compared to 2002’ general elections, Awan Group won three seats, though one contestant of this group Shakir Awan won on PML (N) ticket yet he is affiliated with this group while Umar Aslam lost with extremely narrow margin.
Awami group which fielded candidates on all six constituencies of the district, could win only 1 seat while in last general elections, it won 4 out of six. Peoples Party is very weak in district Khushab while PML (N) has strong support but it could won only one seat. Better ticket distribution could have rewarded it will all six seats.
