At least six female students died and several others were injured on Monday after fire broke out at a girls’ hostel located in Saddar area of Rawalpindi.

The hostel was filled with smoke following the fire, police said. The fire brigade team reached the scene and kickstarted the rescue efforts.

Six girls have died due to the fire, hospital sources told Geo News.

As many as 150 students were present in the hostel when the fire broke out, according to reports.

The fire brigade officials said that the fire was finally brought under control, but the search operatio was still underway.

It is not yet clear how the fire started.
