The much-awaited feature film, Ramchand Pakistani, which is scheduled to be released on August 1, will prove a milestone for improving standard of Pakistani films and reviving cinema industry in the country.

“Efforts of producers like Shoaib Mansoor and Javed Jabbar will help in showcasing the young Pakistani talent worldwide,” said Chairman Central Board of Film Censors, Azfar Shafqat Thursday while talking to this agency.

He said that movies like ‘Khuda Ke Liye’ and ‘Ramchand Pakistani’, which are being demanded abroad, are a source of promoting Pakistani actors, directors and producers.

“Indian movies have made their way into Pakistani cinemas because of their quality production, direction and good scripts for attracting huge crowds,” he observed.

He lamented over the number of cinema houses in Pakistan that has fallen from 700 to about 250 today adding, “Cinemas have been turned into shopping plazas, as there was a dearth of screening quality movies for attracting general public.”

About the measures for restoring cinema industry, he said that a conference was organised in this regard for seeking viable recommendations that are being considered by the government.

He appreciated the human angle captured in Ramchand Pakistani, which explores the emotional turmoil of an 8-year-old boy and his parents in a real-life incident.

Besides strong production of Javed Jabbar and direction of his daughter Mehreen Jabbar the movie also focuses on quality audio and cinematography.

The story revolves around the life of a boy, who crosses the Pak-India border mistakenly and detained for over five years on charges of espionage.

The presence of Bollywood actress Nandita Das, who plays the role of mother in the film, makes the cast stronger, as she is known for her roles in bold, unconventional productions, he added.

The film is set in the desert area of Thar, showcasing the plight of the prisoners who are caught between the rivalries of the two countries.
