Quetta Shura - another figment of imagination.
By Muhammad Ahsan Malick • Oct 9th, 2009 • Category: Features • No ResponsesThe myth of Quetta shura has been on a verge of its hype in the horizon of Pakistan U.S relations yet again, previously it was Karzai in 2006 who was claiming it and now “master” himself has shown same alarming concerns, U.S is looking beyond Afghanistan for the reasons and excuses for her massive strategic breakdown in Afghanistan, shedding light on the pull and push theory will become more a curiosity then any thing else, according to U.S officials Afghan Taliban are operating from Quetta and surroundings, question is why would some movement which originated from Afghanistan and have better opportunities/chances to engage the enemy from their, same organization at the same time suppose to posses planned escape roots and covered/unknown hide outs, control fare bit of the territory of Afghanistan it self, will come across to another place like Baluchistan, NATO, US and the allied forces have failed in grand way to put an end to the series of disappointments in achievement of their standard tactical goals, set in Afghanistan earlier in operation ENDURING FREEDOM, bush administration looked eagerly in a hurry to put a “mission accomplished” banner, but it didn’t happened, now Obama’s men are looking right into the whirlpool of yet another embarrassment after Vietnam and they are looking desperate to avoid it this time around.
NATO’s incapability in neutralizing the foremost force in the freedom fight of Afghanistan i.e.TALIBANS is crystal clear as these elements control more than 60-70 percent of afghan lands, what could be a rational reason behind the fact of NATO/US failure? Answer is quite simple that act of invading and controlling Afghanistan was more a result of a decision which was taken in vehemence and agony in order to restore the pride of a badly wounded American cow boy ego, beside this, most occupied forces can continue to claim their occupation only for a limited time to insure the accomplishment of some ambitions and targets and then leave with suitable “string” in form of some show boys to pull from home to control the entire show, and that limited time seemed very limitedly limited for NATO/US in case of Afghanistan, they are looking for the justification and excuses around the scene to put on the blame , Pakistan was and always will be the most suitable candidate to carry load of the greed of American implications, Quetta Shora being the latest one, precisely speaking so called war on terror has become as a war on pushtoons, regardless of the fact which part of Durand line they belong, pushtoon element is the naissance bond in the relations of US, Pakistan and Afghanistan and off course a reason of existence of a god forsaken term, AFPAK.
Baluchistan is composed of large pashtun population scattered around Baluch land and living as natives for a long while now, even baluch nationalists do not have shown any serious concern over the pashtun population as they usually have shown towards the presence of Punjabi and other migrants groups living their, historically areas like chaman, szoob pasheen etc are used as a gate way corridor between Pakistan and Afghanistan by the people living across, there is no doubt that it has been used by some criminal elements too but basic transitory population is mainly of the traders which are traveling across the boarders for numerous years, propaganda of TALIBANs fleeing into Baluchistan which already being used as the base of separatist activities of BLA helped by the presence of the both western and Indian intelligence agencies is merely more a myth then reality, one or two isolated events can not be termed as the reason to attack innocent pushtoon refugees from Afghanistan living in the refugee camps in Quetta and around Baluchistan, as US officials have declared these camps as a possible reserve army of Taliban and a threat towards US-NATO forces.
If U.S decides to start engaging so called enigma of QUETTA SHORA it will be catastrophic for already dying relation between Pakistan and U.S, pushtoon factor will turn out to be additional margarine for U.S and its allies, during the ongoing anti separatist operations of Pakistani establishment against the pro liberation groups of Baluchistan pashtoon areas remained more peaceful and in scene neutral, a suspected drone strike into heart of pushtoon majority area of Quetta or some other place will erupt the lava of hate towards the instigators and supporters of such action, this is why it is more important for Pakistan to refuse and reject any possible American escalation in the area, anti American sentiments are achieving further hype on both state and public level (except Mr Huqqani and few NRO-ed cabinet members along with Mr ZArdari) after the approval of humiliating Kerry Lugar bill and post NATO-Allie conference in kabul where Pakistani Army Chief seriously rejected any possibility of allowing U.S attacks in Quetta and near by , it could also prove to be more dangerous in light of the fact that U.S forces have less operational experience in those areas as ambassador Patterson herself acknowledged that the United States is far less familiar with the vast desert region of Baluchistan than with Fata, where it has been cooperating closely with Pakistan for several years in the hunt for Al Qaeda and Taliban leaders and where it periodically kills insurgents with missiles fired from remotely piloted aircraft, and the adventure in FATA has cost moral defeat to Americans and increase in support of Militants.
Contrary to the fact, 1st FATA&FANA, then SAWAT now Quetta Shoora then what next? Karachi shora?, Islamabad Shora?? Where it going to end? This action will certainly give a serious concern to the voices which are seeing these events as systematic US invasion on Pakistan and gathering anti American elements together to resist, all these event are causing dying wish of Samuel Huntington to bring it self to life.
