Purchased Peace in Swat
By Zeenat Rehman • Mar 14th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 2 CommentsThe shrine of mystic poet Rahman Baba was blown up by suspected militants and the people of the area were warned of not visiting the shrine to pay the homage. Bomb blasts, suicide attacks, shelling, rocket firing, kidnapping and encounters have become routine in many cities of NWFP from Kohat, Peshawar, Mingora, Charsadda, Shabqadar, Mardan and throughout the tribal belt.
Government has purchased peace in Swat for $10 million. The sum was paid to the Taliban of Fazlullah in the name of compensation for losses and damage suffered during the fighting. Does it mean that the losses were only suffered by the Taliban by the hands of security forces and the other side remained intact? Thousands of soldiers, policemen, FC jawans and other secuirty personnel have been killed by the Taliban. Will Taliban also compensate for them? Does Nizam-e-Adl also covers that? Will Taliban pay for or reconstruct the schools in the valley?
The burning question is that will Taliban still live with peace after they are done with $10 million or will they then ask for more?

i always ask those who blame ” Taliban”. . that who is maulana Fazlullah? who is saufi muhammad? who is muslim khan? and many more other commanders. . .
we do not know many things. . . sometimes i wonder that our so called political analyst are so dumb that they can not analyse the simple issues.
i won’t ever say that Talibans are the players of establishment but can any one ask the layman wandering in the streets of the taliban controlled or affected area of NWFP, that who are these talibans?
our political analysts are, i think, the most stupid and dumb people in the world that can not narrate the reality. can any one tell that who orederd the levi commander to let go the vehicle full of weapons and immunitions at the malakand chekpost?
what the taliban really want is to bring SHARIA (thats the excuse that they keep giving inorder to cover themselves) so why in the hell would they stop messing up, even though they have recieved a huge cost of $10 million. Not only are they taking the lives of millions of innocent people but they are also spoiling the reputation of Islam internationally. So far the Government has been using an ‘iron hand’ to deal with taliban but has not been successful. Therefore it should try to negotiate with them in a peaceful manner rather than shed blood. The govt should except some of their demands on the condition that the taliban will agree to end the atmosphere of hostility and bring peace. Plus the GOVT needs to realise that peace cannot be brought with money and i can assure you that ”PEACE” brought with money is always short-lived. I am confused about one more thing and that is; if the govt knows about the most active taliban leaders why is it paying them rather then simply arresting them.
