Prima Facie: Govt To Collide With Judiciary

By Salman Mugsi • Jan 15th, 2010 • Category: Politics • 2 Comments

One of the lessons of the history is that it repeats itself and the other one is that no one learns from it. Like his predecessor, President Asif Ali Zardari is trying to transform himself as an absolute ruler and after a bitter round of bad-mouthing with media, he and his acolytes are ready to take on judiciary, which they never liked and only restored on gun point.

Presidency knows that this judiciary is not going to overlook the corruption cases and this judiciary is not going to forget the Swiss cases after the nullification of NRO. They have understood and rightly so that either they have to contest the cases and get a beating of their lives because they know they are guily or they have to malign and kick the judiciary out. Quite naturally for them, they have opted for the later option and everyone in the dispensation including premier is on board.

For starters, PPP has silently refused to appoint judges recommended by judiciary at both federal and Punjab level. The CJP’s recommendations forwarded 19 days back for the appointment of Justice Saqib Nisar of the LHC as a SC judge and appointment of Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday as an ad hoc judge in the apex court is till pending with the government. Likewise, Salman Taseer has gone to sleep in Punjab while the recommendations by LHC Chief Justice Khwaja Sharif for the appointment of judges are are pending for the last 23 days.

Showdown is on.

  1. I have failed to notice any statements by Pakistan Bar council regarding a collision of judiciary and the executive, is the media now the self-appointed spokesperson of judiciary. Rather than fabricating make-believe conflicts we should focus on the actual war against terror that is been fought in our territories

  2. This corrupt Chief should never get his wish of appointments fullfilled. throwing his case out from supreme judicial council does not make him innocent. He was corrupt in his personal dealings and he is still corrupt when he orders beyond his power.
