PPP’s Long March
By Salman Mugsi • Jun 18th, 2008 • Category: Politics • One ResponseAsif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party in his infinite wisdom has announced that now people should wait for his long march. He said just that and nothing else why in the world that march would be instigated. In his second breath, he said that PPP is having a working relationship with President Musharraf, and then in the next breath, he revealed that it will be his party who would oust Musharraf, and who would fight the robber of democracy.
What to make of it these paradoxical statements? Statements like above and the perpetual smiles of the Zardari in the backdrop of the disgusting thing (for the nation) like National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), have deprived Zardari of his accidental popularity which he got after the assassination of his wife on 27th December, 2007 in Rawalpindi.
Why exactly PPP would like to do the Long March? To oust Musharraf? When they have his attorney general in place along with many secretaries and other bureaucrats and when they have their own ministers praising Musharraf and terming him as an asset how in the hell would they do it is anybody’s guess.
It would be fun to see when the PPP would do a long march against its own government. But they shouldn’t give it’s leadership to the Aitzaz Ahsan, as it would then become a colossal failure and mammoth farce.

First thing first: PPP was meant to be a national party, and not a dynasty. I fail to understand why, theoretically, people of good-standing and wisdom in the PPP accepted a dubious figure (I am being polite here) like Mr. Zardari (now Zardari-Bhutto?) to head the biggest, and only, national party of our nation.
Secondly, Mr. S. Aziz was blamed to be playing second fiddle to Mr. Musharraf. Mr. Gillani seems to be doing the same…no daggers out yet. I do not see any form of governance or authority.
Thirdly, why do we have an ‘Advisor’ heading the Home Ministry?
Fourthly: Let’s forget the long march for now. We saw how people were lured and duped into this recent ‘march-cum-drive’. I still did not get a credible response to my sincere query: What were the immediate and long-term expected outcomes of the drive?
Politicians have made it a hobby to lay all blame at the doors of the Presidency, while they produce nothing worthy of mention. Opportunistic parasites?
Citizens of the this God-gifted nation are rotting under the heat and power-shortages. First fix that, Mr. Zardari.
