Poll Your Vote Tomorrow : Pakistan Election 2008
By Ghazala Khan • Feb 17th, 2008 • Category: Pakistan Vote'08, Politics, Worth A Second Look • 4 CommentsBe it Africa, be it Asia, be it Americas, be it Europe, be it anywhere in the world, people appreciate to have a right to express themselves, and people really feel good when they have the choice to elect their rulers.
It’s the question of human dignity. It’s the question of giving the due respect to the opinion of people of the specific country. It’s all about basic human rights, and the civilization demands this right to be given to the people.
It’s not that the people in Europe or America has more dignity than the people in Asia or Africa and vice versa. It’s just that the people everywhere on the planet have the same status when it comes to the dignity.
I cannot for the life of me shed the insult I felt when our President General (r) Pervez Musharraf, during his recent trip to Europa, admonished Euro leaders to stop pressing him to introduce true democracy in Pakistan. He said that Euro democracy cannot be implemented in Pakistan. How sad.
Democracy is a notion, and notions have no boundaries and nobody can confine them. It’s just the right to have rights, and Pakistanis want to have their rights. In whatever faith these elections are being conducted, we need to stand-up, join hands and poll our vote tomorrow.

As an onlooker of the events unfolding in Pakistan, and as an occasional contributor and a close observer of the blogosphere, I must say that the Pakistan Spectator has done an excellent job on the Election Watch. It is folks like you who stayed with the subject and issue of vital importance at this critical juncture of our nation’s predicament. May Allah bless you for the good work.
As for the proposition of whether voting or nonvoting as an rational or irrational response to this pseudo-election – you folks have tried to articulate as best as possible both points of views. Thanks!
justathot: We feel so happy due to your kind words. Thanks
Please stay in touch, and if you are in Pakistan, I would request you to please vote.
