Police Beating Teachers

By Anwar Jalal • Nov 26th, 2008 • Category: Misc, Worth A Second Look • 3 Comments

Teaching is noble profession and to be teacher at college or at university is considered to be highly prestigious job . Many talented persons prefer this job and willingly decline offers or opportunity of joining such posts which are generally called as much charming and lucrative what i mean to say is that teaching is considered as worthy of honor profession..

However the way some lecturers , who were protesting in front of Sindh assembly for their demands the other day(24 Nov), were harshly dragged on and beaten by the security personals was so shocking. Though the ignominous treatment meted out to protesters by “civilezed police” of Pakistan is a common phenomenon and none can expect any decent dealing from them but the scene telecasted on TV channels ,where the government personals and also the most highly educated class whom job is to educate others were degraded and brutally beaten by the illiterate security personals- was much appalling and ghastly .

That is too loathsome and lamentable event-Upon it one think that if such highly degrading treatment is done to the class which are rightly called as the nation builders in democratic government how it can be expected that talented and respected people would prefer to join this otherwise noble and important profession ?

  1. what we are accepting from feuds and absconders’ government. Both mqm and PPP are following same agenda like cover each other criminal charges and give meagre benefits to its lower class voters for strengthening their vote banks. Here the police men and teachers although belong to same level of class but one is acting as king’s men in uniform and others are poor people of feuds who are treated as per masters orders for shutting the mouths of protestors. At the end for impressing media and foreign circle the ministers come out from their den, suspend some lower rank policemen, make apology and then vanish from the scene till next scene will be repeated. That is the reason these hypocrite democratic representatives never like Ch Iftikhar who himself felt pain of police maltreatment and then directly target big alligators of that notorious department that had annoyed this ruling group.

  2. Who said that in Pakistan, teacher is a noble profession. Dear teachers are always considered as Servant of these feud and elite class children. When teacher is coming school/college by Bike or Cycle and Student is coming by Cars and Jeeps…do you think that student will ever learn from that teacher.

So brother teachers are the most neglected profession among main professions. Either teacher is teaching in Private or public schools. Except Universities and Visiting Faculty…that are already mostly professionals working in companies are getting reasonable salaries.

Beating these teachers on roads is much less than a slap of government and private school owners in the shape of Small Salary Cheque, which can hardly run their home for 15 days. When teachers follows unethical ways to earn in shape of Tuition fees etc then same society cries that it is wrong etc etc.

So whole system is near to collapse. We can not run this system for a long time in same manner.

  3. The coments of Saleem khan on Police Beating Teachers does not seem to be balanced and logical apart from may misttake of grammer Teaching is a noble profession - Students may be more wealthy and effluent from the teachers however they do lear from the same teachers -
He is right that teaching has been a neglated department in pakistan however this is not the fault of teaching profession but of government - If the most highly class is being draged on by least litrate class just because the former were protesting to the democratic government in favour of their demands then how one can expect that teaching be elevated in pakistan
I think every sensible and eduacted must raise voice against such attitude
