Petition against ‘Kaaba’ Bar in MANHATTAN

The Muslims of New York are pressurizing Government of USA not open this BAR.

“Apple Mecca,” the store being open 24 hours a day like the Ka’ba,
Obviously the offended Muslims in question have never actually been to the 5th Ave Apple Store. The only bar in the Apple Store is the Genius Bar and although the advice of a Genius Bar employee may be intoxicating, it isn’t alcoholic. For those of you unfamiliar with the Apple Genius Bar, it’s a booth inside the Apple Store where you can bring your broken iPod or computer and have them take a look at it. There are no alcoholic drinks served at the Genius Bar, just knowledge. The purpose of the Genius Bar must have gotten lost in translation. For the record, Apple Stores do not serve alcohol. People getting drunk and playing with expensive computers and iPods probably isn’t a good idea.
As far as building a cube shaped store entrance that’s open 24 hours a day…. Apple’s 100% guilty of doing that. But can a simple glass cube really be blasphemous? Muslims should mentally grow more than the past aggressive behaviour that has confined them in typical state of mind.
Just a funny cartoon coming from non Muslim and mischievous minds or symbolic buildings in non Muslim areas can no way harm our strong foundation of which was raised from the rigid culture of Arabs.
Before instigating on issues created by non Muslims we should remember following facts in our mind.
This is the Islam in which all kinds of wines and women would be served in heaven as reward of their good deed.
Wines and Bar culture is very common in many Muslims countries without any restrictions where Muslims can enjoy as much as non Muslims.
All top Muslim leaders called themselves as caliphs of Muslims are known for their excessive drunken and womanizing habits.
All Islamic states under Islamic leaders have been failed to appreciate the basic human rights of their people, their women and their minorities.
Saudis the owner of Kaaba and Emirates the richest Muslim state are the the favorites states of west and along with this are the worst offenders for poor Muslim belong underdeveloped countries;

Is there anything that doesn’t “insult Islam” in the minds of Muslims these days? Apparently not, and this time it’s just a cube-shaped building which was covered with black glass protection card borads while under construction:
On October 10, 2006, an Islamist website posted a message alerting Muslims to what it claims is a new insult to Islam. According to the message, the cube-shaped building which is being constructed in New York City, on Fifth Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets in midtown Manhattan, is clearly meant to provoke Muslims. The fact that the building resembles the Ka’ba is called “Apple Mecca,” is intended to be open 24 hours a day like the Ka’ba, and moreover, contains bars selling alcoholic beverages, constitutes a blatant insult to Islam
The message urges Muslims to spread this alert, in hope that “Muslims will be able to stop the project.”

But this has been updated and can be seen that while a glass cube under construction was covered with black protection card board seen as a black cube but after its completion it is just a clear glass cube used as entrance for the store below.

There have been many comments on this post since it was first put up 3 years ago, many from Muslims angry over what they claim is an insult to their religion - even though it has been made clear from the time this post was first put up that it was a Muslim website that called it the Apple Mecca project, not Apple, and that the above construction image is not actually called “Apple’s Mecca Projecct,” by Apple. It “does not serve alcoholic beverages, and neither Jack Straw nor Salman Rushdie work behind the counter.” Apparently, this isn’t clear enough for Muslims to understand so here is the actual image of the completed structure which is actually the entrance way to the store below. This image can easily found on the Internet had anyone taken the time to look it up before getting so provoked.
Let’s recall once again that this post was, after all, initially about the “MUSLIM WEBSITE” calling it “Apple’s Mecca Project” and an “insult to Islam.”
I hope this helps Muslims to take a breath and relax now.
Assalam U Alaikum this is alarming but the muslims specialy arabs the richest countries in the world are sensless . only pakistani muslims are who feel something and axpress their feelings in the manner may be rightway or wrong way .what can we do indvidually as we are living in pakistan we have not any strong foroum to express our views and our media is also under the ristriction of jewsh lobi . i think just we can pray to Almighty Allah
Farid, relax brother, this is not the case. No wine or alcohol gets served at any Apple Store. The NYC Apple store is a beautiful building in shape of a cube. I would get worried though if some ignorant Muslims start going outside the Apple store and using it as a Qibla (don’t worry, we Muslims in the USA know the direction of the Qibla). Plus, we do not worship the Kaaba, only pray in its direction.

No one owns the Kaaba, and if you do not know this, I do not know what to say to you. Please do some research and not let your own prejudices make you look like an ignorant fool. You are a lady, and I sincerely advise you to behave like one.

What bothers me is how foreign Muslims are to their Religion and their Holy book. As if we needed to seem even more irrational and ignorant. Islam is a very practical and rational religion. This is what differentiates it from most other religions. As if we need to advertise how irrational we have become? Especially the Quran. Isn’t the first thing each of us must do: From those who started this, to those who posted then to those who are more than happy to click forward.
Do we not listen to God’s words in the Quran saying: ” يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَنْ تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ”. O ye who believe! if a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and become regretful of your actions. (49,6). First and foremost we should ask ourselves who amongst those mentioned above ascertained the news before posting any web content?
The second question is what have we done to make non-Muslims respect us ? Do we display such behavior that makes the rest of the world respect us and more importantly the message that we are responsible for? What has changed since the Danish Cartoons ? Better yet since Salman Rushdie? How many amongst us has asked if our actions are making things better or worse? I assure you no irrational behavior nor emotional reaction does the Prophet nor the Message any good.
The third question we need to ask ourselves is so what? So what if a bar was built or such and such was said? Do we not listen/read and think about how the Prophet and the people around him acted during his lifetime? Do you think that no one from Makkah spoke badly about our prophet or have they not insulted him? How many embassies were burnt representing Makkah ? How many protests were held because someone spoke badly about the prophet? Did he ask his followers to boycott the Makkans ? The prophet peace be upon him spent 13 years in Makkah delivering the message. Who did not care about his pride nor what people spoke about him. How many amongst us bother to stop our emotions from hijacking our actions?
Muslims love to speak about how the prophet is the perfect example and role model. However, very few actually practice what they speak. People will respect Muslims their message and their prophet only when or if Muslim behavior becomes respectable.

If you can’t understand my simple symbolic term for Saudis as owner of Kaaba then it is some matter of your loose screw in your head, not my fault.
I just used this symbol as all matters relating to hajj and umrrah are in hands of Saudis and no other sect has ever invited to interfere in their imposed restrictions.
They earn billion rupees through these religious cermonies and not any kind of favor is ever granted to poor Muslims .
Oh yes they blindly throw money to promote Wahhabism through all illegitimate means and their desires are flourishing in our soil too under the tag of Talibans.

In your superiority complex of holding the high knowledge power in your tiny mind I give you little detail of who is called as custodian of kaaba and they can be only a pure Saudi tribe.
The current custodians Al-Shaiba whom genealogy is well known among the Makkans and all Muslims are the custodians of the Holy Ka’aba before and during Islam. From the time of Abduldar ibn Qusai to the time of Shaiba ibn Uthman and up until this day. And they are in a position of respect, honor, victory, and pride before and after Islam.
They are still people of nobility at this time among all Kings, Sultans and Amirs and especially among those who had served the Holy Mosques of Makkah and Madina or had the honor of governing Makkah. Their house is among the noblest in Quraish and their job is among the noblest in the Muslim world. Their existence is a prophetic mirale which he told his Umma by saying “O family of Abi Talha, take for eternity. No one will take it from you but an opressor”.
The job of the custodian of the Holy Ka’aba include all the issues concerning the Holy Ka’aba. It includes opening and closing its doors, cleaning it, clothing it, repairing its cloth, and the reception of its visitors.
Nowadays, the outer cloth of the Holy Ka’aba is given to the chief of custodians to be installed at the 9th of Dhulhejja of each year. A huge ceremony is held at this special occasion and the signing on the papers concerning the receiving and the delivery between the president of the two Holy Mosques affairs committee and the chief of the custodians of the Ka’aba who is now Shaikh Abdulaziz Al-Shaibi.
So from this brief introduction you see that its is the authoritative and tyrannical attitude of Saudis to uphold all the religious matters in their hands and then they bully the whole Muslim communities by using this power of having Kaaba in their land.
I am not in need of taking advice from weak people like you who attacks others without any reasoning.

dralshaer: Instead of acting like an old angry woman, you should point out the deficiencies of this site, and then provide your suggestions for improvement.
I have just talked to a architect who visited this white transparent building in last days and conformed all what I say in my first comment.She told me that building is totally matching with standard apple designs for its all buildings all over the world like sleek, trim , with straight glass corners etc and technically it is no way linking with original design of kaaba made with stones.
So I think some complex Muslims are trying to over come their inferiority complex by projecting this baseless issues and it would surely create lot of problems for Muslim community who are peacefully living in these areas from generation to generation.

I am actually against that concept of wahbism that is in hands of Saudis.
This anger was developed when I had a chance to stayed for a while in Saudia.
Here I realized that how they have restricted the women in houses, depending on their male mahram all the time for outside activities.
I had also seen the dance and wine parties of rich arab families where no one is stopped as no state law can be applied on them and only valid for poor and weak Muslims..
Thanks to my family who had never opted to prefer money soaked slavery in the name of working there as I am sure if I had to stay there I would had surely killed any saudi who try to harass women at all places or spent rest of life in any Saudi jail.
Second thing which I read through history pages that in all wars either between Muslims or with non Muslims Saudi funding was made to promote extremism by enhancing the hate and sentiments of warriors through typical religious faith.
The leaders of Wahhabism all time praised these warriors but they themselves always opt western life styles, sumptuous living and sinful life for themslevs.
In Pakistan this trend in some how different.
Zia ul haq surely given them enormous powers but they couldnt penetrate in typical liberal culture of Pakistan or might be here growth of other sects is so strong that have countered their affects and teaching.
But you see influence of dictatorship for pleasing US in form of tehrik Taliban and then MMA has already created havoc in our deprived areas where large deprived community has followed there theme and now hunting all who are not accepting them.

I just happen to come across this blog. I am a Muslim and I think most of the writers here are also Muslims (if not all). But as many of you have already discussed upon religious teachings of Islam, I would like to raise a point that is common to all religions…
Every religion has its respect. People belonging to any religion, never want to accept an act of insult to their religion … right ?
I don’t know, what is the real intention of ‘Apple’ by constructing such model (only Allah knows the best), but can anyone answer few questions, especially those persons that think it is no harm to construct such buildings (building, entrence or whatever it is):
1) Why is it the same shape as Muslims’ Kaabah ?
2) Why the same name (or atleast same pronounciation) ?
3) Why the word “BAR” is used with its name ? Why not some other word like “workshop” (if it is a repair centre) or “customer center” (if it is meant to deal customer complaints etc) or maybe “store” if this premisis is selling things ? To my little knowledge, I have not seen or heard any computer or I.T. related shop or outlet with the word “BAR” in its name. If anyone knows any such outlet in the world, please correct me.
Next, I looked for meaning of the word “BAR”
I just could not find a single meaning of the word “BAR” that says anything like “a shop that sells or repairs items”………..
So, my dear brothers and siters, why is it “KAABA BAR” ?
The next thing that I would like to say is, if you go through all the above responses and discussions, it seems that we all are argueing and fighting with each other.
I would like to ask:
1) Would we be argueing and fighting, if there be no “KAABA BAR” in the world !!!
2) Is it not an act of insulting Islam and Muslims ?
3) Can people belonging to any religion accept an such act ?
4) Is it not that they want us to get aggressive and show anger ?
In the end, I would like to request people of all religions to think about it and condemn such unethical acts.

Nazia I dont know how much you know about islam but i would like to tell you that, you dont know about islam. And you have no right to give any conclusions that building kaaba bar is not wrong. If somebody tells wrong about you infront of others how you feel.

see what r u doing to ur own ppl, after reading all of this, i have a feeling that your minds are not open to what other ppl think and how they think not even if he or she is muslim. you want ppl to say what you want to hear. What Nazia stated is what she thinks and whats her knowledge is based on her experience and learnings, but u guys bombarded her as she herself is a great offender to islam or so called muslim who like Salman went straight to abuse her, others telling her to behave like a lady…. wow…see this is how a MAN’s behaviour should be towards a woman who has more knowledge than they have. PATIENCE & TOLERANCE is what is needed by all muslim specially men. Is there anyone who could defy what she wrote about Arabs and their attitude towards other muslims countries. I think this is the time when even prayers will not work for ppl like you. I have visited that place, there is no bar nor is it called Kaaba Bar, the name is Apple Mecca and dont tell me that taking the name of a city is also offensive to Islam and muslim, secondly since when a cubed shaped building or entrance that has absolutely no resemblence with kaaba becomes offensive, may be while under construction its glasses were covered with black paper or cardboard as No. 7 stated or whatever it was, the out come was to be a cube shaped glass building or entrance and that in no way should be offensive to Islam or Muslims, and so what if its open 24 hours like kaaba, there r so many stores and customer centres that r open for that long to ensure better service, but no one does tawaf around that glass building only tht will make it more like kaaba.
the difference is that no one even tried to find out what the truth is as Peer Khan stated in the Ayat he quoted. without verifying what it was or what it was going to be people with their shallow knowledge and narrow minds came out to say things that is only jeopardising status of muslims in these countries. its just the way some ignorant muslims think and react which is making things difficult and giving impression to non muslims that Islam is an intolerant religion because of these illiterate and ignorant and intolerent ppl who uses Islam as tool and not in its true sense.
