Peshawar to Celebrate Valentine Day with Saudi Arabia
By Shayan Khan • Feb 13th, 2010 • Category: Features • 9 CommentsOnce again the moon has created the rift within Pakistan on yet another occassion. Just like Eids, Peshawar’s leaders, some specific leaders, have announced to cherish the festival of love, the Valentine’s Day with the moon of Saudi Arabia, and so they are going to have it on Saturday with utter zeal and zest.
People have already started purchasing chocolates, balloons, fairy sticks, cool and cuty gifts, and instead of Sunday, they are going to wish their Valentine’s on Saturday.
That, and the diehard lovers are taking it positively and they have decided to have it two times. They will first celebrate Valentine’s Day in Peshawar on Saturday and then on Sunday, they will sneak into Punjab and have it again.
Love never ends and they are going to sprinkle it on both days.

I am gutted to see an article of this caliber and mentality in Pakspectator. You sir are an ignorant and stupid man. Valentine Day is celebrated based on Gregorian calendar and not lunar. Secondly, when Peshawar celebrated Eid it was based on numerous witnesses (shahadats) of moon sighting, which fortunately or unfortunately wasn’t sighted by Central Rooyat Committee. So Eid was not celebrated based on Saudi Arabia’s announcement of Eid but based on moon sighting in N-W.F.P. If Eid was celebrated just because it was Eid in Saudi Arabia then Eid-ul-Adha wouldn’t have been celebrated on same day. So first get your record straight before you poke fun at someone.
Jalal, I am also from Peshawar and a Pukhtoon, and it was just an article in lighter way. Though I don’t agree with you on the Eid moon issue. Rest of Pakistan is much nearer to Peshawar than the KSA.

is Saudi arabia realy celebrating valentine day? i dont think so
A nice a crispy satire on how we make issues out of nothing in Pakistan.
hI,
Valentine day is actually a creation of modern day marketeers and they are doing it with a vengeance in India.Diehard Ram sena, hanuman sena etc do not understand the INDIAN CULTURE OF LOVE which dates from the days of vedas themselves. Shakunthala//Duhyanth, Nala/Damayanthi,.Laial Majnu , Heer /Ranjah etc etc and they donot even understand that there is a God called Kama in Hindu mythology. VASANTH RITHU is Indian culture and Love existed from time immemorial.
With full Hijab, how can Love bloom between a man and women in Saudi arabia with religious police overlooking. For Saudies it blooms in USA amongst the expatriates.
haha good one. Makes me laugh. Valentine is celebrated on the calendar year if I am not wrong. It has nothing to do with the moon. And even if Saudi Arabia was celebrating this festival I don’t think there is something wrong with that. Not like you would become a less Muslim. Our religion teaches us a moderate manner to live rather an EXTREMIST to make issue out of such things.
Shabash Shayan Khan. I enjoyed it. Intelligent!
Very well written.
